  1. How to Install The Desktop Internet Reference
  2.  
  3. - The Desktop Internet Reference is a Windows Help file and uses
  4. - the program winhelp.exe, supplied with Microsoft Windows
  5. - 3.x as a presentation utility.  You NEED Windows 3.x to use
  6. - the Desktop Internet Reference.
  7.  
  8. * Quick Installation Directions:
  9.     Copy the file DIR10.HLP to a directory where you want it to reside;
  10.     most people copy it to C:\DIR10.  Then, create an icon in Program
  11.     Manager by choosing "File" - "New" - "Program Item" and filling
  12.     in the "Program Item Properties" with the following information:

  14.         Description: Desktop Internet Reference
  15.        Command Line: WINHELP C:\DIR10\DIR10.HLP
  16.   Working directory: C:\DIR10

  19. * Longer Installation Directions:
  20.     - You first need to copy the Desktop Internet Reference file,
  21.       DIR10.HLP, to a directory on your hard drive.
  22.     - If you know how to use the File Manager, copy DIR10.HLP to
  23.       a directory on your hard drive called "C:\DIR10"
  24.       If you want to use DOS to copy the file: first type "C:", then
  25.       type "MD C:\DIR10" and finally "COPY A:\DIR10.HLP C:\DIR10"
  26.     - Load Windows up.  The Program Manager is the first thing
  27.       you see when windows starts up.
  28.     - From the Program Manager, use your mouse to click on FILE
  29.       from the pull down menu.
  30.     - Click on NEW.
  31.     - A dialog box titled "New Program Object" appears.  Use your
  32.       mouse to click on the OK button.
  33.     - A new dialog box appears titled "Program Item Properties" and a
  34.       cursor appears next to a label titled "Description"
  35.     - Use the keyboard to type in "Desktop Internet Reference" - do not
  36.       type the quotation marks!
  37.     - Press the Tab key or use your mouse to move the cursor to
  38.       the box which has the "Command Line" label to the left of it.
  39.     - Use the keyboard to type in "WINHELP C:\DIR10\DIR10.HLP"
  40.     - Press the Tab key or use your mouse to move the cursor to the
  41.       box which has the "Working Directory" label to the left of it.
  42.     - Use the keyboard to type in "C:\DIR10"
  43.     - Press the Enter key or use your mouse to press the button
  44.       labelled "OK"
  45.     - A new icon titled "Desktop Internet Reference" appears.  Press
  46.       return or double click the icon to run it.
