  3.     Now that you've arrived, we can give you a little tour of the 
  4. place.  We'll start with a little background on Exec and the Internet, 
  5. and then move on to things you can do on our system.

  9.     Exec-PC began back in 1983 as a hobby in Bob Mahoney's house.  
  10. During the '80s and early '90s, it grew from a one-line system to become 
  11. the largest system of its kind.  Exec redefined many aspects of BBSing, 
  12. and brought online services to a new level.
  13.     Now, as the world of online services changes to become a global 
  14. community, Exec-PC is right at the forefront.  No longer will modeming be 
  15. defined by just you and the BBS you call.  From now on, it will be the 
  16. connections you make and the paths you travel in the exciting new realm 
  17. of cyberspace and intercontinental networks.  A daunting prospect for 
  18. some, but Exec is here to guide you every step of the way.  The company 
  19. that brought online services to a new level is now here to take you to a 
  20. new level of online services.  Sit back, we're in for a spectacular ride.

  24.     So, what ABOUT all this "Information Superhighway" hype?
  25. Well, it comes down to this: in the coming years, the way we work,
  26. play, and, most of all, communicate, is going to change.  It all has
  27. to do with information: how we get it, what we do with it, and what it
  28. can do for us.  And while politicians and the media talk about how
  29. great it's GOING to be, the Internet is DOING it TODAY.  The Internet
  30. has been around for a long time, now, and it has the potential to
  31. deliver on many of the promises of the "Info Superhighway".  If you're
  32. not on the net now, you may soon be left in the dust.  Once again,
  33. Exec is here to bring you up to speed and get you rolling.

  37.     So, what exactly is Exec doing to bring the world to you through 
  38. the Internet?  Well, you've already begun the journey.  This system is 
  39. Exec's first level of Internet connectivity.  Through this system, you 
  40. have full access to the Internet and all that it provides.  Our goal is 
  41. to make this system as easy to use and powerful as it can be.  We'll do 
  42. everything we can to provide the best and easiest tools to work with the 
  43. Internet, and to help you learn to use those tools.

  45. So, now what?

  47.     We've tried very hard to make this system as intuitive and
  48. easy-to-use as possible.  However, with something as potentially
  49. complex as the Internet, it's best to start out with a good base of
  50. knowledge.  To this end, we've put together several help files that go 
  51. over the basics of Unix and the Internet.  Please read these files before 
  52. you jump into things.  They will make your "Internetting" that much easier 
  53. and fun.

  55. the answer in any of the help files, just send mail to "help" on this
  56. system, and we will do what we can to help you.
