- Posting a document to Gopher
-
- There are two steps to posting a document to Bucknell's Gopher server:
-
- 1. Adding Gopher formatting and converting the source file to a
- Text Only with Line Breaks document
- 2. Mailing the converted source to Gopherman with Eudora
-
- Gopher formatting
-
- Use Microsoft Word to open the file containing the current document. First
- use Select All from the Edit menu and then change the font to Courier and
- the type size to 10. Also, set line spacing to single spaced and remove
- all Bold, Italic, and Underline formatting by using shift-command-Z. To
- add Gopher formatting, place a pair of slashes, //, at the beginning of
- each section line. Next, go through the document to add text-only
- formatting, such as adding tab characters, adding additional whitespace
- between paragraphs and names, and whatever else appears to be necessary.
- You must insert a document identifier as the first line of the file so that
- Gopher knows what this document contains. This line looks like:
-
- \\Title of this document
-
- You may also need to insert a date specification line as the second line of
- the file. This line looks like:
-
- @@1994-01-06
-
- You must use leading zeroes for single digit months and days. If you donâ•’t
- set a date, the current date will be used when you submit the file. Next,
- select Save As... from the File menu. Type in a filename, such as
- blivit.txt, and select Text Only with Line Breaks from the Save File as
- Type popup menu. Click the Save button or hit the return key. The file is
- now ready to go to gopherman.
-
-
- Mailing the document to Gopherman
-
- Launch Eudora and create a new message using New Message from the Message
- menu or by holding down the command and N keys together. Fill in the
- information necessary to send your document to Gopher:
-
- To: gopherman@bucknell.edu
- Subject: doc-ident
-
- Next, select Attach Document from the Message menu or hold down the
- command and H keys together. Use the resulting dialog box to select the
- text only document you prepared earlier with Word. Uncheck the signature
- and wordwrap icons at the top of the window. Click Eudora's Send button
- and the document will be on its way to Gopher.
