  3. This is the charter of the comp.binaries.ibm.pc discussion subgroups
  4. in the UseNet news. The charter took effect the 23rd of July, 1991,
  5. and is edited from Bob Sloane's original posting on the cbip
  6. reorganization.  Please contact your system manager if your site is
  7. not getting the first two of these subgroups.

  9. comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d
  10.   The existing comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d is to be used for discussions
  11.   about the actual programs posted to comp.binaries.ibm.pc, such as
  12.   bug reports (but not articles about missing parts) or requests
  13.   about how to use the programs.
  14.  
  15. Please do not post your message to cbip.d when it clearly belongs to
  16. cbip.wanted, cbip.archives or some non-cbip newsgroup.  This error
  17. has been unfortunately very common since the reorganization.

  19. comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted:
  20.   This group is to be used to post requests/replies concerning where
  21.   to find ibm pc or compatible programs.  Topics would include
  22.   requests for missing parts of binaries posted to
  23.   comp.binaries.ibm.pc and requests for specific programs.

  32. comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives:  (Obsolete!  Don't use!)
  33.   This group was used to post announcements related to archive
  34.   sites for ibm pc and compatible binary files.  Appropriate
  35.   articles included such topics as announcements of new binaries
  36.   available, connectivity problems with archive sites, and
  37.   bug/problem reports concerning programs from archive sites.
  38.   Requests concerning where particular programs are available were
  39.   not appropriate, and should have been posted to the c.b.i.p.wanted
  40.   group instead.

  42. Please note that all these groups are about PD and shareware
  43. programs. Commercial programs are not covered. Likewise OS/2 is not
  44. covered. It has newgroups of its own.

  47. With the natural exception of administrative postings and other
  48. clear-cut cases we should not crosspost to the cbip discussion
  49. subgroups.

  51. If your subject is not covered at all in the cbip discussion
  52. subgroups then you should search for a suitable alternative
  53. newsgroup.  Please do not post off-topic postings to the cbip
  54. discussion subgroups. It is not possible to give fool-proof
  55. all-round advice on the alternatives, but it would seem that fairly
  56. often one of the groups below might turn out to be suitable. The
  57. letter (M) stands for moderated.
