  192. exist on BITNET.  A central computer maintains the list of 
  193. subscribers to a particular interest group, and when you mail to 
  194. this computer (running the LISTSERV program), LISTSERV mails your 
  195. message to the subscribers.  In this way, membership lists only need 
  196. to be maintained in one location.
  197.  
  198.      The BITNET LISTSERV software (which runs on IBM mainframes) has 
  199. been ported to the UNIX environment.  The UNIX LISTSERV software, 
  200. written by Anastasios C. Kotsikonas (Copyright (c) 1992), has many 
  201. features similar to BITNET LISTSERV systems, although the syntax of 
  202. commands may vary slightly.  UNIX LISTSERV sites typically do not 
  203. have the cooperative features of the original LISTSERV software, 
  204. which allow you to subscribe to any BITNET LISTSERV list from any 
  205. BITNET LISTSERV server.  
  206.  
  207.      The following LISTSERV interest groups are of a legal nature.  
  208. Most are BITNET LISTSERV interest groups, some are UNIX LISTSERV 
  209. groups, a few are MAILBASE groups.  All e-mail addresses are given 
  210. in Internet form, and most BITNET addresses are provided for BITNET 
  211. LISTSERV groups.  The descriptions of the groups are in the 
  212. following form:

  1215. 4.2.1.  PROJECT HERMES.  U.S. Supreme Court decisions are available 
  1216. online as part of "Project Hermes."  On May 11th, 1990 the United 
  1217. States Supreme Court announced that it was beginning a two-year 
  1218. experimental program with the objective to rapidly provide copies of 
  1219. the Court's opinions in electronic form to as wide an audience as 
  1220. possible.

  1222. One of the twelve participants is a noncommercial, nonprofit, 
  1223. consortium composed of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), 
  1224. EDUCOM, and the National Public Telecomputing Network (NPTN).  You
