  6.     Serendipity: Finding what was not
  7. sought. That is the byword of my life.
  8. In college, I produced and directed
  9. many (very marginal) television shows
  10. on our campus cable station. Some
  11. times, just rolling a student 16mm
  12. file and playing a Frank Zappa record
  13. proved perfect. Or the high school TV
  14. class ran out of material after eight
  15. minutes of their 30 minute show. But
  16. one of their guests was a jazz dancer,
  17. who marvelously improvised until we
  18. could get a short film loaded and
  19. running.
  20.  
  21.     That was when I serendipitously
  22. discovered that I do not believe in
  23. serendipity. I [depend] on it! Things
  24. have a marvelous way of falling
  25. together. Recently, I have been
  26. contemplating my journey as a pastor
  27. -- mostly from one small town to
  28. another. This is more interesting
  29. because when I was 15 and my family
  30. moved from my (population 1000) home
  31. town, I was glad to be shut of
  32. everything small and rural.
  33.  
  34.     But since my 35th birthday,
  35. "Someone" has conspired to put me in
  36. small towns until I figured it out.
  37. Even Garrison Keillor helped with his
  38. honestly loving sketches of Lake
  39. Wobegone. Now I understand how
  40. villages live -- and why.
  41.  
  42.     Serendipity. Stumbling across C-64
  43. emulators in 1999. Doing eLOADSTAR for
  44. the PC. Then, just as Fender and Judi
  45. were ready to give it up, Sheri and I
  46. suggested we give LOADSTAR a go. And
  47. since then, every issue and every
  48. encounter with LOADSTARites has been
  49. filled to the brim with serendipity.
  50.  
  51.     This issue is just such a fruition
  52. of fortuitousness. I have documented
  53. the accidents and coincidents in the
  54. various documents. And I invite you to
  55. expect serendipity in this issue --
  56. and all you encounter!
