  6.     I'm sure this has happened to all
  7. of us. Don't let the everyday little
  8. surprises pass you by without a second
  9. glance at them. Who knows if you will
  10. be around tomorrow. Live everyday
  11. like tomorrow may be your last.

  15.                 FAMILY
  16.  
  17. I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
  18.   "Oh excuse me please" was my reply.
  19.  
  20. He said, "Please excuse me too;
  21.   I wasn't watching for you."
  22.  
  23. We were very polite,
  24.      this stranger and I.
  25.   We went on our way and we said
  26.      goodbye.
  27.  
  28. But at home a different story is told,
  29.   How we treat our loved ones, young
  30.      and old.
  31.  
  32. Later that day,
  33.      cooking the evening meal,
  34.   My son stood beside me very still.
  35.  
  36. When I turned,
  37.      I nearly knocked him down.
  38.   "Move out of the way," I said with a
  39.      frown.
  40.  
  41. He walked away,
  42.      his little heart broken.
  43.   I didn't realize how harshly I'd
  44.      spoken.
  45.  
  46. While I lay awake in bed,
  47.   God's still small voice
  48.      came to me and said,
  49.  
  50. "While dealing with a stranger,
  51.      common courtesy you use,
  52.   but the family you love,
  53.      you seem to abuse.
  54.  
  55. Go and look on the kitchen floor,
  56.   You'll find some flowers
  57.      there by the door.
  58.  
  59. Those are the flowers
  60.      he brought for you.
  61.   He picked them himself: pink, yellow
  62.      and blue.
  63.  
  64. He stood very quietly
  65.      not to spoil the surprise,
  66.   you never saw the tears
  67.      that filled his little eyes."
  68.  
  69. By this time, I felt very small,
  70.   And now my tears began to fall.
  71.  
  72. I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
  73.   "Wake up, little one, wake up," I
  74.      said.
  75.  
  76. "Are these the flowers
  77.      you picked for me?"
  78.   He smiled, "I found 'em,
  79.      out by the tree.
  80.  
  81. I picked 'em because
  82.      they're pretty like you.
  83.   I knew you'd like 'em,
  84.      especially the blue."
  85.  
  86. I said, "Son, I'm very sorry
  87.      for the way I acted today;
  88.   I shouldn't have yelled
  89.      at you that way."
  90.  
  91. He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
  92.   I love you anyway."
  93.  
  94. I said, "Son, I love you too,
  95.   and I do like the flowers,
  96.      especially the blue."

  101.     Are you aware that if we died
  102. tomorrow, the company that we are
  103. working for could easily replace us in
  104. a matter of days. But the family we
  105. left behind will feel the loss for the
  106. rest of their lives
  107.

  109.     And come to think of it, we pour
  110. ourselves more into work than into our
  111. own family, an unwise investment
  112. indeed, don't you think? So what is
  113. behind the story?
