  8.     Dave Marquis is the acclaimed
  9. Master of Classical SID Music here at
  10. LOADSTAR. In fact, the 135th through
  11. 139th floors have been completely
  12. gutted and converted into the Marquis
  13. Auditorium of Three Voice Symphonic
  14. Masterpieces.
  15.  
  16.     Be that as it may, the fact that
  17. someone has "done" something, even
  18. with the expertise and panache that
  19. Dave brought to SID music, does not
  20. mean the matter is closed. Creativity
  21. cannot be held hostage! And Corky
  22. Cochran has accepted the challenge to
  23. bring his own excellent style to
  24. classical SID transcriptions. And he
  25. has succeeded spectacularly!
  26.  
  27.     Many of the songs in this
  28. collection hold special memories for
  29. me. "Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes"
  30. was a piano number I struggled with
  31. for a major portion of my formal
  32. training. (Implying that my formal
  33. training did not get me very far!
  34. Which is true!)
  35.  
  36.     "Sonata in C, 1st Movement" was a
  37. favorite Swingle Singer piece. Some of
  38. you will remember the Swingle Singers,
  39. who sang classic and pop music using
  40. jazz syllabolic vocalizations. I had
  41. so completely memorized their version
  42. of this song that I nearly flunked
  43. Music Appreciation by not being able
  44. to identify the various phrases.

  46.     And finally, "Hungarian Dance No.
  47. 5" is the score of a favorite Alan
  48. Sherman song -- "Hungarian Goulash".
