  21.     Yanks get a mickel overboard on
  22.     Patriotism sometimes. But here is
  23.     the challenge. Everyone is proud
  24.     of their home and heritage. Let's
  25.     see a graphics/music show from
  26.     [your] favorite land! Send me a
  27.     script and images (even photos
  28.     will do). We will put together a
  29.     "God Bless the Queen" (or
  30.     whatever) presentation!

  37.     This is the first time I've
  38. written for Loadstar so bear with me!
  39. It's really neat to still be able to
  40. receive a techno-luddite magazine such
  41. as this. The work and organization are
  42. awesome.
  43.  
  44.     Of course the standard story: I
  45. was very pleasantly surprised to find
  46. about the active C-64 community when I
  47. discovered the internet back in '98.
  48. CMD was quite a loyal company and
  49. Maurice Randall has our undying
  50. gratitude for his continuation of C=
  51. support in this 21st century. JiffyDOS
  52. was an improvement over the stock
  53. system and boy, is it compatible! The
  54. SUPERCPU and RAMLINK are wonderful
  55. additions in themselves. I'd love to
  56. get a hard drive when I can afford it.

  58.     I have been amazed at the quality
  59. of releases from people such as
  60. Protovision: PacIt, Stroke World,
  61. Cascade and their other products are
  62. amazing. I hope they can keep it up
  63. for a long while. I am always
  64. surprised and pleased at the various
  65. programs that Dave manages to get into
  66. LOADSTAR. Some of my favourites
  67. have been Doris, Reaxion, Cyberwing.
  68. The puzzles are a great touch as well.

  70.     I have a few ideas and questions
  71. about our platform that could possibly
  72. interest the LS community.

  74. * Useful files for Modplay 64 - I need
  75. help with the .lhz file format, it
  76. appears.
  77.  
  78. * An MP3 player for the SCPU and
  79. RAMLink (might be possible considering
  80. the JPEG viewer that has been
  81. created!)

  83. * Find out what is wrong with certain
  84. FD2000 drives that write files that
  85. later lock up the drive when the next
  86. file is to be loaded.

  100.     doing is what needs to be done.

  103.     I have heard the word [community]
  104.     used quite a bit to describe
  105.     almost any aggregate of people.
  106.     But the Commodore community is a
  107.     very real thing. We know we are
  108.     Techno-Luddite (secular) or
  109.     Techno-Amish (not-secular) and we
  110.     have to hang together or we will
  111.     all hang out in the breeze.

  113.     Actually, I believe we are more
  114.     Techno-Amish (at least here at the
  115.     Tower) than Luddite -- and not for
  116.     religious reasons. Luddites
  117.     dislike machines, especially
  118.     "labor saving devices," since they
  119.     are generally the labor which is
  120.     saved -- and out of work.
  121.  
  122.     The Amish hang back in the late
  123.     19th Century because it is Plain
  124.     and Ordinary. The technical level
  125.     depends on each community. I know
  126.     of one Amish community where the
  127.     latest equipment and hybrid seed
  128.     is used, because it makes sense to
  129.     do the best you can with your
  130.     farm. But they still avoid
  131.     electricity, television, and
  132.     automobiles, which are obviously
  133.     meaningless gimcracks!

  135.     And that is how we at LOADSTAR
  136.     are with our Commodores. Keep it
  137.     Plain and Ordinary -- and use a
  138.     Pentium when it makes sense.
  139.  
  140.     I hope a LOADSTARite or two has
  141.     some answers for your wish list.
