-
- Just a note to say I realy enjoyed
- issue 231. Some very enlightening
- points, a little American for me :-).
- Loved the starsigns
-
- Thanks

-
- Thanks, Nigel.
-
- Nigel is a new LOADSTARite from
- Merrie Olde England. I'm afraid we
- Yanks get a mickel overboard on
- Patriotism sometimes. But here is
- the challenge. Everyone is proud
- of their home and heritage. Let's
- see a graphics/music show from
- [your] favorite land! Send me a
- script and images (even photos
- will do). We will put together a
- "God Bless the Queen" (or
- whatever) presentation!

- Commodore in 2004,
-
- This is the first time I've
- written for Loadstar so bear with me!
- It's really neat to still be able to
- receive a techno-luddite magazine such
- as this. The work and organization are
- awesome.
-
- Of course the standard story: I
- was very pleasantly surprised to find
- about the active C-64 community when I
- discovered the internet back in '98.
- CMD was quite a loyal company and
- Maurice Randall has our undying
- gratitude for his continuation of C=
- support in this 21st century. JiffyDOS
- was an improvement over the stock
- system and boy, is it compatible! The
- SUPERCPU and RAMLINK are wonderful
- additions in themselves. I'd love to
- get a hard drive when I can afford it.
-
- I have been amazed at the quality
- of releases from people such as
- Protovision: PacIt, Stroke World,
- Cascade and their other products are
- amazing. I hope they can keep it up
- for a long while. I am always
- surprised and pleased at the various
- programs that Dave manages to get into
- LOADSTAR. Some of my favourites
- have been Doris, Reaxion, Cyberwing.
- The puzzles are a great touch as well.
-
- I have a few ideas and questions
- about our platform that could possibly
- interest the LS community.
-
- * Useful files for Modplay 64 - I need
- help with the .lhz file format, it
- appears.
-
- * An MP3 player for the SCPU and
- RAMLink (might be possible considering
- the JPEG viewer that has been
- created!)
-
- * Find out what is wrong with certain
- FD2000 drives that write files that
- later lock up the drive when the next
- file is to be loaded.
-
-
- Keep up the good work Dave,
- Maurice, Jeri and everybody else.
-
- Regards
- Andrew Roberts
-
-
- Andrew,
-
- I really appreciate the feedback.
- I sometimes wonder if what we are
- doing is what needs to be done.
- Hearing from you helps a lot.
-
- I have heard the word [community]
- used quite a bit to describe
- almost any aggregate of people.
- But the Commodore community is a
- very real thing. We know we are
- Techno-Luddite (secular) or
- Techno-Amish (not-secular) and we
- have to hang together or we will
- all hang out in the breeze.
-
- Actually, I believe we are more
- Techno-Amish (at least here at the
- Tower) than Luddite -- and not for
- religious reasons. Luddites
- dislike machines, especially
- "labor saving devices," since they
- are generally the labor which is
- saved -- and out of work.
-
- The Amish hang back in the late
- 19th Century because it is Plain
- and Ordinary. The technical level
- depends on each community. I know
- of one Amish community where the
- latest equipment and hybrid seed
- is used, because it makes sense to
- do the best you can with your
- farm. But they still avoid
- electricity, television, and
- automobiles, which are obviously
- meaningless gimcracks!
-
- And that is how we at LOADSTAR
- are with our Commodores. Keep it
- Plain and Ordinary -- and use a
- Pentium when it makes sense.
-
- I hope a LOADSTARite or two has
- some answers for your wish list.
- Send them to LOADSTAR, PO Box 44,
- Holly, CO 81047, or get on the
- Homestead maillist, where a lot of
- us hang out together.
-
- Thanks again!
- Dave
