- INTRODUCTION
-
- Stephen Robertson is a British artist
- who graced many games during the late
- 1980's with load screens. LOADSTAR
- stumbled upon his work while searching
- the Web for something else -- and knew
- you would want to see these images.
-
- Stephen was very gracious in sending
- us Koala graphics, and allowing us to
- use some of the text he wrote for his
- web site.
-
- So, sit back and enjoy. Our first
- graphic is called IBall. Then Stephen
- will take over the story...

- This Star Wars picture is the second
- C64 picture I drew, and the second
- time I've drawn it. The original
- version was drawn on an Atari 800 with
- an Atari Touch Tablet, along with
- several other pictures. The only copy
- I have of these are some low quality
- thermal screen-dumps.
-
- After I drew my Atari pictures I
- bought a second-hand Koala Pad from
- another friend, and this was the
- first picture I drew on it, primarily
- for my own amusement.

- Looking back at it now it looks
- pretty awful. It was drawn from
- memory, so the X-Wing's fuselage is
- completely wrong, and the shading on
- the Deathstar isn't that brilliant
- either!

- This picture was based on the advert
- for the platform game Monty On The
- Run, and was drawn for my own
- amusement. I remember reading the
- review for the game in the UK C64
- magazine Zzap! 64, and seeing the
- game running on the ZZap! 64 stand at
- a computer show. The music was
- amazing!

- After drawing the picture I sent it
- with some other artwork to Gremlin
- Graphics, the publisher of the game,
- to see if I could do some work for
- them. Shortly afterwards I got a
- standard letter from them saying
- something like:
-
- "Thank you for sending us your game.
- Unfortunately your game does not meet
- our current standards"
-
- I was a little bit annoyed and upset
- that they couldn't even write a
- proper letter, and when the game came
- out I thought my version was better
- than the game's actual loading
- screen.
