-
- Have you ever wanted to drive the
- big rigs? Not out on the highway
- with a heavy load to slow you down,
- but at the speedway where you can use
- your 1000 horses to slop through mud
- and impress the screaming fans in the
- stands? I bet you have.
-
- Well, now you can, because
- MONSTER POWER will bring the speedway,
- mud and all, right into your living
- room. There are actually three
- events to MONSTER POWER, the Tractor
- Pull, the Mud Bog, and the Monster
- Truck.
-
- When the program boots up the
- speedway will scroll from left to
- right. You can speed up the scrolling
- by pushing the joystick in Port #2
- right or left. When the event you
- want to play is showing, press the
- firebutton. Then select the number
- of players who will be competing.
-
- When you are ready, press the
- firebutton and make an attempt for a
- high score. The players take turns.
- Each player gets two attempts before
- the event is over and the scoreboard
- shows. You can then play the same
- event or choose another. To change
- the number of players or start the
- scores over, press the RESTORE key.
-
- In every event you need to use
- the firebutton to control the motor
- speed, which is displayed on the
- tachometer. When you rev above the
- red line, you run the risk of blowing
- your motor. If you are getting close
- to blowup, the heat indicator will
- flash. A blown motor will cause the
- oil light to come on and the attempt
- is over -- just like in real life.
-
- Here are some specific strategies
- for each of the events.
-
- Tractor Pull - Pull back on the
- joystick to back the tractor to the
- weight sled. Rev the motor to
- move.
-
- As soon as you are hooked, push the
- joystick forward and rev the motor
- as much as you dare. Try to get as
- far down the track as you can before
- the weight box overwhelms you.
-
- Mud Bog - Wait for the start light to
- come on, then rev the motor and
- push the stick forward. You must
- steer right and left to keep in
- bounds. If you get too muddy, you
- might not be able to finish.
-
- Monster Truck - Wait for the start
- light, rev your motor and push the
- stick forward. Watch the overhead
- view because the truck tends to
- wander a bit.
-
- Note that the start light is on a
- white pole to the front of the
- vehicle.
-
- With MONSTER POWER your life-long
- dream of driving the big rigs and
- pulling down major cash is only a
- short diskload away. Well, maybe the
- part about the major bucks is still
- but a figment of the imagination, but
- don't be surprised if you are tempted
- to join the nearest Truck Driving
- Academy. If the LOADSTAR Tower ever
- crumbles, that's where I'll be
- heading. See ya on down the road,
- Jack!
