  7.     Home Tower users are lucky! On
  8. their new, emense hard drive is a disk
  9. image called UTILITY.D81. In fact,
  10. when they boot up the Tower, device 15
  11. is pointing to UTILITY.D81.
  12.  
  13.     That is my own, all purpose
  14. Utility disk. I put it on drive 9 with
  15. VICE, so that most programs I will
  16. need are there, ready for easy access.
  17. Programs like Edstar and Mr.Edstar.
  18. Lee Novak's Dissolver, Linker, and
  19. Packer. Art programs like Sprite On!,
  20. Doodle, Advanced OCP, and STB
  21. Print. And my favorite assembler is
  22. there, BASSEM.

  24.     Now, there are a lot of other
  25. utilities useful in the production of
  26. LOADSTAR that probably won't interest
  27. you. But now you have it, the good,
  28. the bad, and the ugly!

  30.     Just had an email from Nick
  31. Copland, whose 64HDD drives the Tower.
  32. Nick is working on a new connection/
  33. program called PowerLoader that will
  34. make access 30 to 50 times faster.
  35.  
  36.     Let me see if I got that right: 30
  37. to 50 times faster. The Tower runs a
  38. little faster than a 1541 but not as
  39. fast as a CMD HD. But kick it into
  40. gear with PowerLoader and --
  41.  
  42.     [Streaming Video!] "Streaming"
  43. means that the program doesn't have to
  44. stop to load. With PowerLoader, the
  45. data just keeps on flowing. Nick is
  46. working on conversion programs for the
  47. PC which will make AVI computer videos
  48. C-64 VIC II compatible. This will all
  49. require a parallell cable and perhaps
  50. a new ROM chip for the C-64.

  52.     What is exceedingly cool about it
  53. all is that this new technology is the
  54. result of careful thought about
  55. existing technology. Nick and LOADSTAR
  56. are both dedicated, in our own ways,
  57. to break the death grip of commercial
  58. consumerism. Nick finds new ways of
  59. using what the economy calls junk. We
  60. find new ways to entertain you with
  61. our obsolescence.

  63.     Another note: Even though this
  64. version of 64HDD is freeware, we pass
  65. along a royalty to Nick for the use of
  66. 64HDD in the Tower. Since the Home
  67. Tower is a commercial venture, we
  68. think it is only fair to compensate
  69. Nick for his genius.

  71.     But now he has sent me coupons to
  72. send to Home Tower owners, good for
  73. $10 off on other and future 64HDD
  74. software or hardware.
