- [NOTE:] This program must LOAD and
- RUN from Drive 8. It does not return
- to LOADSTAR.
-
-
- Here you have one of those
- love-hate relationships: a program you
- love because the rules are simple, but
- it's also a program you hate because
- it forces you to plan ahead.
-
- You are a traveler who has fallen
- prey to the evil wizard, Li Po, who
- entraps unsuspecting travelers in his
- "Maze of Keys." As Li Po watches from
- a floating fortress in the sky, you
- must make your way through his mazes.
-
- Li Po, who is centuries old, lost
- his human form long ago. As a result
- he takes special delight in
- transforming his unfortunate victims
- into creatures as hideous as himself.
- If you do not escape his maze, you too
- will suffer the Wizard's doom.
- However, if you escape, Li Po will be
- banished forever and his kingdom will
- once again be safe for travelers.
-
- Every level you complete enrages
- Li Po, since you are getting closer to
- escaping his trap. Li Po has agreed to
- reset the Sands of Strength after each
- successful level. He may be evil, but
- he still plays by the rules -- even if
- he made them himself.
-
- In each section of the maze, the
- Wizard has hidden five keys. When you
- collect all five of them, a magic key
- will be revealed. By taking this last
- key you will unlock the exit, and can
- pass through it to the next level.
-
- Not everything in Li Po's realm is
- as it appears. Walls may crumble at
- the slightest touch and huge stone
- blocks that should weigh tons can be
- slid easily out of your path.
-
- To get some keys you will need to
- move blocks and crush walls. Blocks
- with arrows on them may only be pushed
- in the direction pointed. You may also
- use the arrow blocks to crush some
- blocks to powder.
-
- Multi-arrow blocks (you can't miss
- them) can be slid in any direction.
- These are your main tools in most
- levels.
-
- In order to reach the keys on
- every level, you'll have to clear a
- path for yourself. To do this you must
- use blocks as tools to crumble walls.
- But you can't crumble just ANY wall.
- You can only crumble a wall with
- white, flaky mortar between the
- bricks.
-
- Li Po recognizes that not all
- travelers are of the same caliber, so
- he allows you to choose between the
- Novice and Expert modes by pressing F7
- at the menu. In the Novice mode the
- crushable bricks have a white edge. In
- the Expert mode there's no way to tell
- the crushable bricks from the solid
- ones. Obviously, Li Po has a grudge
- against "experts".
-
- You will begin your journey with
- three lives. For every five levels
- that you successfully complete you
- will gain one additional life. If you
- should find yourself trapped, press F1
- to start the level over. This will
- cost you a life, so plan your movement
- carefully. Complete a level before the
- Sands of Strength run out or you will
- lose a life and be forced to start
- again.
-
- Use a joystick plugged into Port
- #2 to guide yourself through the maze.
- Press the RESTORE key at any time to
- return to the menu. If you become
- weary, press the SPACE BAR to pause
- your travels. Due to Li Po's overt
- hostility, WIZARD'S DOOM doesn't
- return to LOADSTAR.

- JEFF'S NOTE: This is a humbling
- game. I think I reached my limit at
- around level 5.
