  9. to LOADSTAR.

  12.     Here you have one of those
  13. love-hate relationships: a program you
  14. love because the rules are simple, but
  15. it's also a program you hate because
  16. it forces you to plan ahead.
  17.  
  18.     You are a traveler who has fallen
  19. prey to the evil wizard, Li Po, who
  20. entraps unsuspecting travelers in his
  21. "Maze of Keys." As Li Po watches from
  22. a floating fortress in the sky, you
  23. must make your way through his mazes.
  24.  
  25.     Li Po, who is centuries old, lost
  26. his human form long ago. As a result
  27. he takes special delight in
  28. transforming his unfortunate victims
  29. into creatures as hideous as himself.
  30. If you do not escape his maze, you too
  31. will suffer the Wizard's doom.
  32. However, if you escape, Li Po will be
  33. banished forever and his kingdom will
  34. once again be safe for travelers.
  35.  
  36.     Every level you complete enrages
  37. Li Po, since you are getting closer to
  38. escaping his trap. Li Po has agreed to
  39. reset the Sands of Strength after each
  40. successful level. He may be evil, but
  41. he still plays by the rules -- even if
  42. he made them himself.
  43.  
  44.     In each section of the maze, the
  45. Wizard has hidden five keys. When you
  46. collect all five of them, a magic key
  47. will be revealed. By taking this last
  48. key you will unlock the exit, and can
  49. pass through it to the next level.
  50.  
  51.     Not everything in Li Po's realm is
  52. as it appears. Walls may crumble at
  53. the slightest touch and huge stone
  54. blocks that should weigh tons can be
  55. slid easily out of your path.
  56.  
  57.     To get some keys you will need to
  58. move blocks and crush walls. Blocks
  59. with arrows on them may only be pushed
  60. in the direction pointed. You may also
  61. use the arrow blocks to crush some
  62. blocks to powder.
  63.  
  64.     Multi-arrow blocks (you can't miss
  65. them) can be slid in any direction.
  66. These are your main tools in most
  67. levels.
  68.  
  69.     In order to reach the keys on
  70. every level, you'll have to clear a
  71. path for yourself. To do this you must
  72. use blocks as tools to crumble walls.
  73. But you can't crumble just ANY wall.
  74. You can only crumble a wall with
  75. white, flaky mortar between the
  76. bricks.
  77.  
  78.     Li Po recognizes that not all
  79. travelers are of the same caliber, so
  80. he allows you to choose between the
  81. Novice and Expert modes by pressing F7
  82. at the menu. In the Novice mode the
  83. crushable bricks have a white edge. In
  84. the Expert mode there's no way to tell
  85. the crushable bricks from the solid
  86. ones. Obviously, Li Po has a grudge
  87. against "experts".
  88.  
  89.     You will begin your journey with
  90. three lives. For every five levels
  91. that you successfully complete you
  92. will gain one additional life. If you
  93. should find yourself trapped, press F1
  94. to start the level over. This will
  95. cost you a life, so plan your movement
  96. carefully. Complete a level before the
  97. Sands of Strength run out or you will
  98. lose a life and be forced to start
  99. again.

  101.     Use a joystick plugged into Port
  102. #2 to guide yourself through the maze.
  103. Press the RESTORE key at any time to
  104. return to the menu. If you become
  105. weary, press the SPACE BAR to pause
  106. your travels. Due to Li Po's overt
  107. hostility, WIZARD'S DOOM doesn't
  108. return to LOADSTAR.
