- [Editor's Note:] The WordsWorth
- Dictionary doesn't seem to recognize
- four letter words created by adding an
- "S" to a three letter word. It also
- knows words no human (except Fender
- Tucker) ever heard of. Lance decided
- that if the computer was going to
- "cheat," we should have the same
- option.
-
- Therefore, if you make a word which
- WordsWorth does not like, press the
- Right Mouse Button. Let your
- conscience be your guide!
-
- Also -- explained below, QUIT takes
- you immediately back to LOADSTAR. If
- you want to play another game (or
- start over during a game), click PLAY.
-
-
- INTRODUCTION
-
- WORD 3-4-5 is played a 4x4 grid.
- There are two players, you and the
- computer. You take turns finding a
- three, four or five letter word. You
- are Blue, the computer is Red. You
- move first.
-
- The object of the game is to have
- the highest score at the end of the
- game. The words are scored as follows:
- one point for three letter words; two
- points for four letter words; and four
- points for five letter words. The "Qu"
- square counts as two letters. The game
- is over when both players pass, or 182
- words have been found.
-
- Words are formed from squares that
- adjoin horizontally, vertically and
- diagonally. Any words, except proper
- nouns, are allowed. Words within a
- word are allowed. You do not get
- points for words within a word. The
- computer uses Dave Moorman's
- "WordsWorth" for it's dictionary. You
- are are the final authority on the
- words you can use. No square may be
- used more than once within a word. A
- word can only be used once,
- reguardless of how may ways it can be
- formed.
-
-
- NAVIGATION
-
- The pointer can be moved by a
- mouse in port 1, or a joystick in port
- 2, or the keyboard cursor keys.
-
- For the joystick, the FIRE button
- and <F7> are used as the left and
- right mouse buttons, respectively.
-
- For the keyboard, <SPACE> and
- <RETURN> can be used as the left mouse
- button, and <F7> as the right mouse
- button.
-
- The left mouse button is used to
- make a selection. A selection can also
- be made with an indicated <KEY>. While
- the program is "busy", the pointer
- will be yellow. The program will not
- process clicks or key presses while
- the pointer is yellow. So if you want
- to select something while the pointer
- is yellow; press a key and wait, or
- hold down the left mouse button and
- wait.
-
- Note: <STOP> has been disabled.
-
- Game Screen. To form a word, click
- on the appropriate letter squares with
- the left mouse button. Selected letter
- squares are blue. Valid letter square
- choices (first or adjoining) are
- black. To check a word, click on the
- blue square with the left mouse
- button. If the message "Duplicate"
- appears, the word has already been
- used. If the message "WordsWorth"
- appears, the word is not in the
- computer's dictionary. To cancel a
- word, click on a blue letter with the
- left mouse button. To pass, cancel the
- word (no blue letters) and click on
- the blue square with the left mouse
- button. To override the computer's
- dictionary, click on the blue square
- with the right mouse button.
-
- Help Screen. You can use the left
- mouse button to scroll and the right
- mouse button to page (click on the UP
- or DOWN commands). You can also use
- <CRSR Left/Right> to page.
-
-
- COMMANDS
-
- There are three commands on the
- game screen; Play, Help and Quit.
-
- PLAY starts a new game.
-
- HELP brings up the help screens.
- That's where you are now.
-
- QUIT ends WORD 3-4-5. You will be
- returned to LOADSTAR or BASIC. If you
- go to BASIC, the top of BASIC will be
- at 14336(0+56*256) instead of
- 40960(0+160*256).

- CREDITS
-
- To create this program, I used the
- following tools: SYSRES(tm) by Don
- Lekei from Hands-on Software Inc.;
- FONT STUDIO by Anthony Rose; ZIP BASIC
- 2.0 by Rick Nash; MR. EDSTAR by Dave
- Moorman; and FONTSWAPPER V2 from
- LOADSTAR.
-
- This program incorporates the
- following tools: MR. MOUSE 2.1 and
- MOUSE MATE by Lee Novak; WORDSWORTH by
- Dave Moorman; and RANDOM 2-254 by Bob
- Markland.

- [Dave's AfterGlow:] Lance did a great
- job with this program -- every bit as
- good as what Hasbro did on its similar
- CD-ROM game. Actually, the "Head to
- Head" competition is more nerve-
- wracking than a timer. You [know] the
- darned machine is going to find
- another five letter word and all you
- have are four letter words!
-
- Well, not THOSE four letter words!
