  7.     This is to announce that United
  8. Commodore User Groups Association,
  9. also known as [UCUGA] (you-coo-ga), is
  10. now accepting memberships. And we
  11. would appreciate you forwarding this
  12. to all Commodore users and groups you
  13. know.
  14.  
  15.     Membership in UCUGA is open to
  16. both User Groups and individuals.
  17.  
  18.     User Group membership in UCUGA is
  19. $25 per year U.S. & Canada ($35
  20. otherwise). Group membership gives
  21. the Group space in the Commodore
  22. Digest, UCUGA's monthly hardcopy
  23. newsletter, for reporting local
  24. activities. The Group will receive
  25. one issue of the Commodore Digest each
  26. month. The User Group can utilize the
  27. Digest as their local newsletter by
  28. copying and distributing it. Or, for
  29. about the same cost of copying &
  30. stamps, the Group can provide their
  31. members with individual memberships in
  32. UCUGA.
  33.  
  34.     Individual membership in UCUGA is
  35. $15 per year U.S. & Canada ($25
  36. otherwise). Individual members will
  37. directly receive monthly issues of the
  38. Commodore Digest.
  39.

  52.     It is not the intention of UCUGA
  53. to create a profit. Therefore, if
  54. publication of the Commodore Digest
  55. ceases for any reason, a prorata
  56. refund of dues will be made.
  57.  
  58.     All memberships begin in January
  59. and dues are payable the first of the
  60. year. Those joining after the first
  61. of the year can choose to receive all
  62. issues from January or pay
  63. proportional dues for the remainder of
  64. the year.
  65.  
  66.     Multi-year memberships are not
  67. offered or accepted. All funds
  68. received other than dues or excess
  69. amounts are considered donations.
  70.  
  71.     The Commodore Digest will be
  72. published monthly by UCUGA beginning
  73. January 2002, scheduled for mailing
  74. the 20th of each month.

  82.     In addition to brief reports of
  83. local activities and information
  84. provided by member Groups, the intent
  85. is to present material in every issue
  86. of the Digest which addresses the
  87. interest base of all its readers. The
  88. goal is to inform the broadest
  89. possible range of users in order to
  90. enhance all aspects of Commodore use.
  91.  
  92.     To this end, the Digest is
  93. arranging for articles from the entire
  94. spectrum of Commodore enthusiasts. The
  95. plan includes titles which focus on
  96. The Leading Edge, highlighting those
  97. endeavors that are expanding the
  98. horizons of the 64 and 128. Also
  99. scheduled are articles looking at the
  100. Trailing Edge, examining the ways and
  101. means of accomplishing what is needed
  102. today with Commodore systems. And
  103. there will be essays about how
  104. Commodores are actually used, whether
  105. it be leading edge, trailing edge, or
  106. the broad landscape in between.

  110.  [DAVE'S AFTERNOTE:] The world of C=
  111. needs an organization such as UCUGA.
  112. We need some way to let the big world
  113. know that we are not going to give up
  114. on our favorite platform. We need a
  115. way to convince young people that the
  116. C-64 is [the] place to learn the inner
  117. workings of all computing machines. We
  118. need to get out the news that exciting
  119. new operating systems and brand new
  120. hardware are going where no IBM has
  121. gone before!
