In a large pan melt the butter or heat the oil. Add the onions and fry until transparent and golden. Remove the pan from heat, stir in paprika, salt, pepper, and tomato paste diluted with 1 tbsp of water. Add the beef, carrot, garlic, marjoram, and caraway seeds. Mix well, cover, and simmer for 1.25 hours. Peel the potatoes and cut them into large cubes. Put them in a pan and pour in the stock.
