- POWER BUDGET is a powerful, commercial quality program. It
- is an expandable budgeting system that will make keeping track of
- your money much easier. POWER BUDGET is set up like a fixed
- spreadsheet, meaning you can move left, right, up or down using
- your cursor keys, mouse, or a joystick plugged into port #2.
- Items that you enter into this spreadsheet may be changed at will
- and the entire spreadsheet can be recalculated to update your
- figures.
-
- Using the REPORT feature, you can print out an extensive
- report for the entire year or just one month -- easy as pie.
- POWER BUDGET is also set up so that you can make easy projections
- with tentative budgets for an entire year. With POWER BUDGET you
- can use one of two onboard calculators to make correcting your
- data quick and easy.
-
- POWER BUDGET is menu driven and thus easy to use since there
- are no complicated commands to remember. To select any option on
- POWER BUDGET's main menu, move the cursor over to the desired
- option with the cursor keys, joystick or mouse. When the desired
- option is selected, press RETURN, CLICK or FIRE.

- The ENTER option is already selected when POWER BUDGET boots
- up. When you select ENTER, the bottom of the screen becomes
- active. Here's what you will see:

- EXPENDITURES 0.00
- WAGES 0.00
- SPOUSE'S WAGES 0.00

-
-
- The categories continue through #54. As you can see, the
- current category will be highlighted. If you were to press
- CURSOR DOWN, the highlighted bar would move down to SPOUSE'S
- WAGES. If you press Cursor right or push the Joystick right, the
- month will change through to December. The numbers displayed
- adjacent to the category will reflect the current month's
- value.
-
- If you move down past category 7 then the bottom of the
- screen will scroll, showing the other categories. HOME will move
- the highlight bar to the uppermost category. Pressing HOME again
- will move you to the very first category in that month.
- SHIFT/CLR HOME will move you instantly to January and the first
- category. F1 and F7 page up and down.

- To enter an amount, press RETURN or fire. A window will
- clear. You will see a cursor which appears as a reversed greater
- than sign (>). You will be allowed to enter up to nine figure
- numbers. After entering the amount, press RETURN and the amount
- will be placed in POWER BUDGET. The window in the middle of the
- screen will constantly show you what percentage of your income is
- being displayed in the highlighted bar. Income is ALWAYS the sum
- of WAGES plus SPOUSE'S WAGES plus OTHER INCOME (or the first
- three categories if you have redefined them). The resolution of
- the percentage display is up to 1/100 percent. Thus any
- percentage less than one one-hundredth of a percent is
- represented as 0%.
-
- NOTE: (1% / 100 = .01%)
-
- If you want to change any amount already entered, just place
- the highlight bar at the desired location and hit RETURN. It's
- the same process as entering new information. The key to
- mastering POWER BUDGET is getting a true "feel" of "where" you
- are in the spreadsheet. Move around for a while and get
- acquainted. You can't hurt anything by moving around.
-
- ******** MAKING PROJECTIONS *********
-
- In some budget categories, you'll already know that you'll
- be spending the same amount next month... or even until the end
- of the year. In this case you can tell POWER BUDGET to copy the
- same amounts through the end of the year. To do this just enter
- an ampersand (an ampersand looks like this: @ ) after the amount.
- For instance, you might know that your car payments will be
- $112.34 from January through the end of the year. Just enter
- this for January: 112.34@
-
- The same amount will automatically be entered for the rest
- of the year. The ampersand MUST be placed at the end of the
- number in order for this feature to work.
-
- NOTE: THIS FEATURE ONLY WORKS FROM THE CURRENT MONTH. IF YOU
- MAKE A PROJECTION IN JULY, THE AMOUNTS WILL BE ENTERED FROM JULY
- TO THE END OF THE YEAR. JANUARY THROUGH JUNE WILL BE
- UNAFFECTED.
-
- You may also ask "what if" questions by entering a tentative
- amount per month in every desired category. You may then use the
- spreadsheet to calculate how much money you would have spent
- under a tentative budget with averaged monthly expenditures in
- selected categories.

-
-
-
- -------------------------------------
- PERCENTAGE CALCULATION
- -------------------------------------
-
-
- Another auto function of POWER BUDGET is calculation of
- percentages. This is particularly handy when you're preparing a
- tentative budget. Instead of manually figuring percentages you
- can just assign a nominal percentage of your income to a category
- and POWER BUDGET will figure it for you. For instance, you might
- have already entered $1300.00 as wages for the month. In the
- "PERSONAL" category you can just type in 5% and five percent of
- your total income will be entered in "Personal". By typing in 5%
- you will have declared that you want to assign 5% of your total
- income to "PERSONAL" items. That comes out to $65.00.
-
- You may also set the calculated value throughout the year in
- that category by affixing an ampersand after the value. eg: 5%@
-
- NOTE: IN ORDER FOR THESE FEATURES TO BE COMBINED, THE PERCENT
- SIGN MUST PRECEED THE AMPERSAND. EG. 5%@, NOT 5@%
-
- 5%@ automatically causes 5 percent of total income to be
- entered into a category and then projected through the end of the
- year from the current month. It should be understood that 5% of
- the TOTAL income will be figured. This means WAGES + SPOUSE'S
- WAGES + OTHER INCOME. All percentages will be calculated from
- the sum of these categories.
-
- NOTE: WHEN PROJECTING PERCENTAGES, THE AMOUNT PROJECTED WILL
- ALWAYS BE FROM THE BASE MONTH. IT IS NOT FIGURED FOR EACH
- MONTH'S INCOME.

-
-
- Sometimes you may not want to exit the spreadsheet in order
- to make a calculation on POWER BUDGET's main calculator. The
- Spreadsheet section comes equipped with a four-function,
- concurrently operating calculator. Here's how it is used:
-
- Let's say you've entered 34.67 for entertainment and want to
- spend twice as much in that category, just enter "2*" and the
- amount in entertainment will double to 69.34 If you want to take
- twenty dollars away from that answer then just enter "20-" and
- 67.34 becomes 47.34 If you want to add five dollars to that
- amount then just enter 5+ and 47.34 becomes 52.34. If you want
- to divide 52.34 by 3 then enter 3/ and 52.34 becomes 17.45.
-
- NOTE: YOU MAY NOT RAISE A NUMBER TO A POWER FROM WITHIN THE
- SPREADSHEET.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- -7-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- The spreadsheet calculator is useful if money goes to an
- item more than once per month. There is only one thing to
- remember about this function: That is to place the operator AFTER
- the number if you enter +20 then POWER BUDGET's calculator will
- assume that you're entering the positive number of 20 and not
- that you want to add it to the number already there. If you
- enter /20, it will assume you're entering the word "/20" which
- has a numeric value of zero.
-
- SO BE CAREFUL: YOU CAN ZERO OUT AN EXISTING NUMBER BY PUTTING THE
- OPERATOR FIRST. TO ADD TWENTY YOU MUST USE 20+ TO DIVIDE BY
- TWENTY YOU MUST USE 20/ ETC.
-
-
- NOTE! AMAZINGLY IMPORTANT: IN ORDER FOR THE SPREADSHEET
- CALCULATOR TO BE ACCURATELY USED, THE DATA, AT LEAST FOR THE
- CURRENT MONTH, SHOULD BE LOADED!!

-
- When entering large amounts of information, it may be
- desirable to have the cursor move down automatically after each
- entry. Or you may want it to move left, right or even up. To
- set this automatic function simply move the window to STASIS on
- the MAIN MENU and press RETURN. STASIS will change to LEFT.
- Press it again and it will change to RIGHT. Press it again and
- it will change to UP, and lastly DOWN. Now when you enter your
- wages, the cursor will automatically move down to the next
- label... or UP if that's the way you've set it.
-
-
- NOTE: WHEN THE CURSOR AUTOMATICALLY MOVES, YOU WON'T SEE THE
- PERCENTAGE OF YOUR LAST ENTRY UNLESS YOU MANUALLY MOVE BACK TO
- IT.

-
- To save your figures to disk you MUST HAVE FIRST CREATED A
- FILE using the CREATE FILE option. The CREATE FILE option makes
- a RELative file on your disk that only POWER BUDGET can access.
- All you have to do is give the file a name. Don't worry about
- the CREATE FILE option accidentally formatting a disk. THIS
- OPTION WON'T ERASE ANY DATA ON A DISK... but you WILL need a data
- disk with at least 57 blocks free. The name that you choose can
- be the current year or anything you want. Just make the name
- something that you can remember. If you've forgotten the name of
- your budget file then just use POWER BUDGET'S "DIRECTORY" option
- to list the files on the disk. Select the DIRECTORY option and
- POWER BUDGET will list the directory of any disk. POWER BUDGET
- files will appear highlighted in the listing.
-
- VERY IMPORTANT NOTE! CREATE A FILE ONLY ONCE! ONCE YOU'VE
- CREATED A FILE, THERE IS NO NEED TO CREATE IT AGAIN. THE FILE
- CAN BE WRITTEN TO BY THE UPDATE OPTION.
-
- ANOTHER NOTE: RELATIVE FILES CAN'T BE ACCURATELY COPIED BY MOST
- PROGRAMS UNLESS THE ENTIRE DISK IS COPIED. SO IF YOU TRY TO COPY
- A POWER BUDGET DATA DISK, DON'T MAKE A BAM COPY!
-
- --------------------------------------
- T H E U P D A T E F E A T U R E
- --------------------------------------
-
- After a file has been created, you may write to it by using
- the UPDATE option. Just move the window to UPDATE and HIT
- RETURN. Don't be concerned if UPDATE sometimes doesn't ask for a
- filename. If it doesn't, it is because you've already entered
- the filename during a LOAD or when CREATing the file. AFter
- you've used the name once, POWER BUDGET remembers.
-
- UPDATE is easy to use. All you have to do is select it,
- enter your file name (if it asks for it), and insert your data
- disk. Everything else is automatic. Since the file is random
- access, you don't have to worry about file management. All you
- have to do is remember your file name. NOTE: TOTALS ARE NOT
- SAVED.
-
- -------------------------------------
- A T T E N T I O N ! !
- -------------------------------------
-
- There is no need to LOAD old data in order to enter new
- data. If you want to add or change something in NOVEMBER, just
- RUN the program, move to November, enter the figures and use the
- UPDATE option. Now isn't that good news?
-

-
-
-
-
-
- -------------------------------------
- *******LOADING YOUR BUDGET*******
- -------------------------------------
-
-
-
- To load what you have previously saved, select the LOAD
- option. POWER BUDGET will ask:
-
-
- "Through month (1-12)?"
-
-
- Enter a month between one and twelve. POWER BUDGET then
- asks:
-
- "Filename:>"
-
-
- Enter your file name and hit return. You'll see POWER
- BUDGET LOADing each monthly file.
-
- NOTE: IF THERE IS ONLY ONE POWER BUDGET FILE ON A DISK, YOU CAN
- LOAD IT WITH AN ASTERISK WHETHER OR NOT IT IS THE FIRST FILE IN
- THE DIRECTORY!
-
-
-
- -------------------------------------
- A T T E N T I O N ! !
- -------------------------------------
-
-
- There is no need to LOAD old data in order to enter new
- data. If you want to add or change something in NOVEMBER, just
- RUN the program, move to November, enter the new figures and use
- the UPDATE option. Since your file is random access and not
- sequential, the data will be placed quickly and correctly.
- Haven't you heard this before? If not, then you missed page 9!
