- Morning Coffee

-
- This program is a good example of
-
- how simple it really is to accomplish
-
- useful tasks with your Commodore 64
-
- and an Analog/Digital Data
-
- Acquisition and Control System.
-
- Fortunately, the latter shortens to
-
- "ADC." With an ADC and your C-64,
-
- you have the ability to communicate
-
- with the "real world" which gives you
-
- real and useful computing power.
-
- This program only actually uses one
-
- feature of an ADC -- the ability to
-
- send commands to the popular BSR
-
- series of AC line-carrier remote
-
- control modules. Ordinarily, these
-
- modules are used with timer or
-
- control devices to operate lights and
-
- appliances around the house by
-
- sending radio-frequency signals over
-
- the AC lines. These modules are easy
-
- to find as they are sold at many
-
- stores.
-
- Prior to running Morning Coffee,
-
- you will need to get some hardware
-
- that is capable of turning on and off
-
- a coffee machine and a bedroom's
-
- lights. When all systems are go, RUN
-
- the program.
-
- At the start of the program, you
-
- will notice a ten second delay that
-
- might seem that the computer is
-
- locked-up doing nothing. Don't worry,
-
- first the program must set up the
-
- communications channel, which takes
-
- a little time.
-
- After the short delay, you will be
-
- prompted with "ENTER TIME NOW, SUCH
-
- AS HH,MM ?." What this means is --
-
- enter the current time using the
-
- HH,MM format. Please note that on the
-
- C-64 time is represented as a julian
-
- clock. For example, 11:00p.m. is 2300
-
- hrs. on a julian clock and 12 O'clock
-
- midnight is 0000 hours.
-
- Next, you will be prompted to
-
- "ENTER TIME TO TURN ON COFFEE ?"
-
- followed by "ENTER TIME TO TURN ON
-
- LIGHTS ?." Respond to these prompts
-
- with julian time and be sure to make
-
- sure that the numbers you enter are
-
- correct because the C-64 will accept
-
- strings whose values exceed 2400
-
- hours, however when this happens the
-
- system's clock will be reset to
-
- 00:00:00.
-
- If you do err, just press
-
- STOP/RESTORE and then RUN the program
-
- again. To be sure you have entered
-
- the times correctly, note that the
-
- program will print the times that you
-
- have entered for each appliance.
-
- Because of the nature of this
-
- program, you cannot run it from the
-
- LOADSTAR environment.
