  7.  STUDIO-64 is a totally keyboard
  8.  
  9. oriented musical system.  All musical
  10.  
  11. coding is done via the C-64's own
  12.  
  13. keyboard; no external musical
  14.  
  15. keyboards are necessary for this
  16.  
  17. system.  The middle two rows of keys
  18.  
  19. (A-equal and W-up arrow) are used
  20.  
  21. for entering musical notes.  At the
  22.  
  23. top of the screen is an indicator
  24.  
  25. which shows what waveform you are
  26.  
  27. presently using.  Using the function
  28.  
  29. keys, you can switch between any of
  30.  
  31. the four basic waveforms.
  32.  
  33.   You can enter music in two different
  34.  
  35. ways.  The first way is by entering
  36.  
  37. the notes one at a time.  When you
  38.  
  39. press a musical key using this method,
  40.  
  41. a sixteenth note appears upon the
  42.  
  43. staff.  Pressing the key once more
  44.  
  45. changes the note to an eighth note. 
  46.  
  47. Another keypress on the same key will
  48.  
  49. lengthen the note again.  Tied notes
  50.  
  51. are easy to use as well.  Rests are
  52.  
  53. treated in the same way.  By pressing
  54.  
  55. the space bar repeatedly, the rest
  56.  
  57. grows in duration.  The other method
  58.  
  59. of entering your music is to play it
  60.  
  61. in 'real time'.  In this mode,
  62.  
  63. STUDIO-64 updates the duration of a
  64.  
  65. note simply if you hold the key down.
  66.  
  67. In this mode, there is no need to
  68.  
  69. press a key more than once.
  70.  
  71.   Waveforms and octaves can be changed
  72.  
  73. for every note.  You can change from
  74.  
  75. one waveform to another by using the
  76.  
  77. function keys.  You can change the
  78.  
  79. octave you are playing in by pressing
  80.  
  81. the number keys 1 through 8.  ADSR
  82.  
  83. can be set to any desired settings for
  84.  
  85. each note.  Again, the function keys
  86.  
  87. are used to change the settings.
  88.  
  89. STUDIO-64 can also make use of the
  90.  
  91. C-64's filters.  Each voice can be
  92.  
  93. filtered and you can select which
  94.  
  95. type of filter to use (band, high, or
  96.  
  97. low pass).  You can also adjust the
  98.  
  99. cutoff frequency very easily.
  100.  
  101. Resonance is also very easily altered.
  102.  
  103. As an added feature, you can adjust
  104.  
  105. the pitch so that you can tune your
  106.  
  107. C-64 to a tuning fork or other tuning
  108.  
  109. device.  The tempo of playback is
  110.  
  111. also very easy to alter.
  112.  
  113.   Editing a song is very easy with
  114.  
  115. STUDIO-64.  You can delete and insert
  116.  
  117. notes very easily.  You can also
  118.  
  119. duplicate portions of your music.
  120.  
  121.   The commands used in STUDIO-64 are
  122.  
  123. very easy to understand and remember.
  124.  
  125. For example, to alter the filter
  126.  
  127. settings, simply press CTRL-F.  To
  128.  
  129. alter ADSR, press CTRL-A.  STUDIO-64
  130.  
  131. includes a HELP key.  It calls up a
  132.  
  133. reference screen.

  137. good.  All concepts are explained
  138.  
  139. fully and an example is almost always
  140.  
  141. given.  The instruction booklet also
  142.  
  143. contains approximately five pages
