- BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEM (BBS) USERS TUTORIAL
-
- HISTORY
-
- I decided to write this program after I heard so many SysOps commenting
- that they didn't understand why their new users were having trouble when
- using their BBSs and new Users commenting that they were having so much
- trouble understanding how to traverse BBSs without getting totally lost.
-
- I determined that the problem was a lack of a common core of knowledge.
- The SysOps had all the knowledge imagineable on their BBSs since they set
- them up themselves. They just didn't realize that the new user, in many
- cases, had not even SEEN a BBS before, much less read anything about one.
- The users didn't realize that SysOps just 'took for granted' that their
- system was easy to understand from a new users point of view.
-
- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- - IBM or compatible computer with 256K
- - Any type monitor
-
- NOTE
- A modem is NOT required for operation of this program.
-
- I hope this fills the needs of some of you. Please feel free to write and
- suggest improvements to the program or let me know its problems. I really
- would like your comments, either good or bad.

- USAGE
-
- The program is menu driven, giving the user four choices from the main menu:
-
- - START INTERACTIVE TUTORIAL
-
- - GLOSSARY OF BBS RELATED TERMS
-
- - LIST THE BBS RULES OF ETIQUETTE
-
- - QUIT
-
- Each menu choice is activated by pressing the appropriate key. This system
- holds true throughout the program unless otherwise prompted.
-
- INTERACTIVE TUTORIAL
-
- This option takes the user through a simulated BBS from dialing, past the
- sign-on screens of a typical BBS, thru the Call Back Verifier system util-
- ized by BBSs, and on into the main menu. From the main menu, the user can
- press the key corresponding to the menu option to receive more information
- about that particular option. The FILES option allows the user to access
- a simulated files menu, then go even further into the depths of the BBS.
- The user can NOT create any real havoc, as this is only a simulated BBS.
-
- GLOSSARY OF BBS RELATED TERMS
-
- This option displays a comprehensive list of BBS related terms and their
- definitions one screen at a time.
-
- LIST THE BBS RULES OF ETIQUETTE
-
- This option lists the 14 BBS rules of etiquette, one screen at a time.
-
-
- GENERAL NOTE
-
- All BBSs are NOT the same. Therefore this program is the example of a
- typical BBS, NOT typical of all BBSs.
-
-
- ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
-
- Much of the credit for this software is due to the ideas and opinions
- expressed by Ted Fox, SysOp for the Night Hawk BBS, and Don Anderson,
- SysOp for the Phoenix ][ BBS. Their ideas were invaluable to me and
- without them I would not have had the knowledge to write the program.
-
- Thank you both
