  1. This file contains information regarding Vision Edit version 3.3

  4. IMPORTANT NOTES:
  5. ================
  6. If you used any of the older versions of Vision Edit, make sure you have
  7. removed ved.opt and all ved.dsk files. The new options and desktop files are
  8. not compatible with the old ones. If you do not remove the old ved.opt and
  9. ved.dsk warning messages will be displayed: "Error reading Options file."
  10. and "Error reading Desktop file.".
  11. A new file COMMANDS.TXT has been created for your convenience which contains
  12. a list of all Vision Edit commands. You can use it when modifying hotkeys.

  15. LATEST ENHANCEMENTS:
  16. ===================
  17. - new KeyCmds menu item now makes it easy for new users to learn all editting
  18.   hot-key commands (Box Commands, Block Commands, Insert/Delete Commands,
  19.   Cursor Movement Commands, Miscellaneous Commands, Set Marker, and GoTo
  20.   Marker);
  21. - new Config menu lets you customize your system:
  22.   - foreign languages support (keyboard redefinition & edit direction): you
  23.     can assign other ASCII codes e.g. other language characters to selected
  24.     keys; you can even edit text from right to left (Hebrew and Arabic
  25.     languages);
  26.   - you can remap most Vision Edit commands (Config|Commands) e.g. you can
  27.     make Vision Edit behave like another editor with commands of which you
  28.     are familiar;
  29. - Block Operations (block selection, copy, cut & paste) in column mode;
  30. - Dragging a selected block both in column and line mode (using a mouse or
  31.   arrow keys);
  32. - drawing boxes with a mouse: just select a drawing style from KeyCmds|Box
  33.   Commands submenu, move the mouse cursor to the desired location, and mark
  34.   two opposite corners of a box by clicking (left mouse button);
  35. - more Options in the Options|Preferences Menu:
  36.   - <Enter> key options (Unix files can be edited);
  37.   - Block Indent options;
  38.   - Show Page Breaks;
  39. - print a file or a selected block directly from a window (Ctrl-K P);
  40. - headers and footers now can be easily created (Print|Header, Print|Footer);
  41. - more Print|Options:
  42.   - Top & Bottom Margins;
  43.   - Use Headers/Footers;
  44.   - Printer Initialization String;
  45. - Search & Replace dialog boxes now display a current word (on which the
  46.   cursor is positioned) as "Text to find" - you do not have to retype the
  47.   word if it already exists in your text file;
  48. - all dialog boxes now have a Help Button
  49. - modified Delete Word (Ctrl-T) function - now works like that in Borland's
  50.   Turbo Pascal IDE;
  51. - File|Dos Shell command now gives you almost all memory available below
  52.   640KB (it can vary between 500-600KB depending on the system configuration);
  53.   this is achieved by swapping contents of RAM memory to either Expanded
  54.   Memory (if available), what gives a very fast performance, or to a temporary
  55.   VED.SWP file which is created on your drive c:;
  56. - new File|Run Program command allows you to run external programs or execute
  57.   DOS external commands from within Vision Edit;
  58. - new File|Save All and File|Close File menu commands;
  59. - the ability to edit Hidden and Read-Only Files;
  60. - increased number of files that can be opened simultaneously;
  61. - hints for menu items (displayed on the Status Line);
  62. - new Windows|List of Files menu function (Alt-0)

  66. MACRO DEMOS:
  67. ============
  68. The following Macro-Demo files have been provided with Vision Edit:
  69. DEMO.MAC, DEMO1.MAC, DEMO2.MAC, DEMO3.MAC, DEMO4.MAC, DEMO5.MAC.
  70. In order to use any macro-file you have to add it to a list of macros using
  71. a function Read Macro from the Macro menu. After the file have been added
  72. to a macro-list you can run it by selecting it from the list (in Macro menu).

  75. ENTERING ASCII CODES:
  76. =====================
  77. You can enter ASCII codes directly from the keyboard - hold down Alt key,
  78. enter ASCII code from the numeric keypad and release Alt key.
  79. ASCII codes can be entered both into active window and into Search/Replace
  80. dialog boxes.
  81. You can also send ASCII codes to the edit window from the Ascii Table.

  112. - virtual memory (files up 4MB can be edited)

  114. If you have EMS installed, Vision Edit will automatically use it for
  115. overlays, what will improve efficiency of the program.
  116. If you have a disk cache program installed the performance of Vision Edit
  117. can increase significantly especially when editing very large files.
