  47.     PRINTERS.PRD should be on one diskette, labeled "PROGRAM DISK", and

  57.     If  you  have experienced using any other full-featured word processing
  58.     program, GALAXY's friendliness will be a welcome change of pace.   Even
  59.     if  you're  new  to  computer word processing, you'll be up and running

  109.     Printing the User's Manual
  110.     --------------------------
  111.     The GALAXY shareware evaluation copy  comes  with  a  104  page  User's
  112.     Manual which you can view on screen or print.

  114.     To view or print the manual, type 'GO' at the DOS prompt and follow the
  115.     instructions  on  screen.   To  print the User's Manual, you'll need to
  116.     have 107 pages of  paper  available  for  your  printer.

  118.     Using the INSTALL program
  119.     -------------------------
  120.     The  INSTALL  program configures GALAXY for use on your system.  If you
  121.     are installing GALAXY from a diskette or subdirectory to a new location
  122.     on your computer (either diskette or hard disk), INSTALL will copy  the
  123.     GALAXY files for you.
  124.  
  125.     If  the  GALAXY  files  listed  above  have already been copied to your
  126.     computer, you still need to run INSTALL to configure GALAXY to work with
  127.     your printer.
  128.  
  129.     To run the INSTALL program, type 'INSTALL' at the DOS prompt and follow
  130.     the instructions on screen.
  131.  
  132.     Starting GALAXY
  133.     ---------------
  134.     After   you   have   run   INSTALL,  you  can  start  GALAXY  by typing
  135.     'GALAXY' at the DOS prompt.
  136.  
  137.     Setting screen size and monochrome mode
  138.     ---------------------------------------
  139.     Some video adaptors do not report screen size properly.  If the screen
  140.     appears to be drawn improperly (the status line is not visible at the
  141.     bottom of the screen, or dialog boxes are not centered on the screen),
  142.     add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  143.  
  144.                           SET GALSCREEN=80,25
  145.  
  146.     You can enter a different value for the number of columns or rows if
  147.     your screen size is not the standard 80 columns by 25 rows.
  148.  
  149.     If you are using a monochrome display with a color adaptor, GALAXY's
  150.     screen colors may not be right for you.  You can add the following line
  151.     to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  152.  
  153.                           SET GALMONO=TRUE
  154.  
  155.     This will force GALAXY into monochrome mode regardless of your video
  156.     adaptor.
  157.  
  158.     Using GAL2TO3.EXE to convert old GALAXY files
  159.     ---------------------------------------------
  160.     This utility will make it easier to reformat old GALAXY files in the
  161.     new GALAXY.  Just type in "GAL2TO3" followed by the complete name of
  162.     the file you wish to convert.  Press <Enter> and the new file will be
  163.     created in the current directory.  It does the following conversions to
  164.     improve the file's compatibility with Version 3.0:
  165.  
  166.       -Removes carriage returns at the end of each line.
  167.       -Removes leading spaces from paragraphs.
  168.       -Adds carriage return to end of each paragraph.
  169.       -Removes embedded formatting sequences.
  170.  
  171.     Problems with certain OKIDATA and TANDY printers
  172.     ------------------------------------------------
  173.     Our printer database is unable to properly install the OKIDATA 182,
  174.     183, 192, and 193 printers and the TANDY 105 and 106 printers. If you
  175.     wish to install any of these printers for GALAXY, contact Omniverse at
  176.     (206) 385-1133 for assistance.

  178.     Getting Help
  179.     ------------
  180.     If you have any problems installing GALAXY, try the following steps:
  181.  
  182.           1.   Make  sure  you  have  all  the files listed above.  At  the
  183.                DOS  prompt,  type  'DIR' and press ENTER.  You should see a
  184.                directory listing that shows all of the above files.
  185.  
  186.           2.   Print the User's Manual by typing 'GO'  at  the  DOS  prompt.
  187.                Read Chapter 1, Getting Started.  Try  the  INSTALL  program
  188.                again, following the instructions in the manual.
