- Explanation of the FCC Exam Pools Format
- ________________________________________
-
- The current Exam Pools have been updated and reflect the
- new Novice Enhancement Exam Pool format as of the date the
- Pool was uploaded. This Exam Pool contains the answer sets
- as used by the ARRL/VEC examination teams.
-
- So that all users of the FCC Exam Question Pools may
- understand the format, I submit this for your consideration.
-
- Before I begin, lets look at an example :
-
-
- ------------------------------------------------

-
-
- ------------------------------------------------
-
- Lets take it a line at a time.
-
- The first line contains the official question number and the
- the correct answer. It is fully left justified, uppercase only,
- with three (3) spaces between the question number and the answer.
- The line terminator is immediately after the answer, no hidden
- spaces. Most users will want to change the number to a
- sequential series (1,2,3,Etc.). And all will certainly not want
- the answer attached to the question; but have an answer key
- generated on a seperate sheet.
-
- The next group of lines are the Official Question. They are
- fully left justified and like all line in the question pool they
- are 64 characters or less in length. This will allow the user
- to fit two questions across an 8.5 inch page if compressed
- printing is used. This will allow 10 to 12 questions to fit
- on a typical printed page.
-
- One blank Line seperates the question from the answers.
-
- After the required blank line, we have the answer group.
- It is indented one space so that a nice looking answer group
- may be printed with a minimum of fuss. The answers begin
- A. B. Etc., followed by a space, followed by the answer, again
- 64 characters or less in total length. If an answer requires
- more than one line, successive lines will be indented four
- spaces to align them with the body of the question above.
- Keeping good appearance in mind, if one answer has more than
- one line, all answers to the same question will have the
- same number of lines. This rule obviously could not be used as
- law in many cases. Each answer ends with a period. It just
- looks nice.
-
- Finally, two spaces between question groups. This will
- allow the user to detect the end of a question block, as a
- question block may vary from seven to over twenty lines,
- two blank lines will appear only between questions blocks.
-
-
- Exam pools are stored in subelement groups. (2A,3AB,3BC,Etc.)
- Files are named as POOL2A.TXT, POL3AB.TXT, POL3BC.TXT, Etc.
- This is to keep the file sizes to a reasonable length and
- make maintenance a bit more managable.
-
- As the files tend to be somewhat large, y u should be
- prepared to store the data as it is being Read or Downloaded.
- Be sure you have plenty of storage space available before
- you get on the clock. Keep the following figures in mind :
-
- Element 2A = 90.7 K
- Element 3AA = 87.1 K
- Element 3AB = 93.7 K
- Total = 271.5 K
