- | File and Directory Editor |
- | Copyright(C) 1987 thru 1991 |

- |-------------------------------|
-
- EDDY is ALL of the following:
-
- Full-screen directory editor
- Disk and directory manager
- Sector editor
- File finder ("where-is" utility)
- File viewer/patcher
- File backup utility
- Data recovery utility
- String finder/replacer (hex and/or ASCII)
- RAM editor
- DOS shell
-
- ...and MUCH more!
-
- EDDY requires MS-DOS 2.0 or newer, and uses about 180 KB memory.
-
- See the file EDDY_WHY.DOC for some of the reasons you should use EDDY.
-
- The complete EDDY package includes the following files:
-
- 1. EDDYREAD.ME - This file
- 2. EDDY.COM - The main program
- 3. EDDY.AUX - Contains overlays for LOOK, Update, HELP, and menus
- 4. EDDY.USE - Sample file to illustrate Point-and-Shoot commands
- 5. REGISTER.BAT - Batch file to print the registration form for EDDY
- 6. EDDY.DOC - Complete User's Manual
- 7. EDDY_HST.DOC - History of changes, by version
- 8. EDDY_REG.DOC - Registration form
- 9. EDDY_WHY.DOC - Reasons why you should use EDDY
- 10. VENDOR.DOC - Conditions for commercial distribution of EDDY
-
- The EDDY files are packaged for distribution in two formats:
-
- Package format 1 contains all files in ready-to-use form. About 450
- KB disk space required, including documentation files
-
- Package format 2 has the documentation files (numbers 6 - 10 in the
- list above) combined as a compressed, self-extracting file,
- EDDY_DOC.EXE, which was created using LHA.EXE, Copyright Haruyasu
- Yoshizaki. About 270 KB disk space required.
-
- Package format 2 is used for distributing EDDY on 360 KB, 5-1/4" disks.
- All other distributions use package format 1.
-
- Installation
- ------------
-
- 1. Copy all files to the disk/directory you'll use to execute EDDY. If
- one of the files you just copied was EDDY.DOC, the installation is
- now complete.
-
- 2. If your set of files includes the file EDDY_DOC.EXE, you have the
- EDDY distribution package format 2, used with 360 KB, 5-1/4" floppy
- drive systems.
-
- If you have a system with 360 KB, 5-1/4" floppies and no hard drive,
- use the following steps:
-
- a. Copy EDDY_DOC.EXE to a separate, blank, formatted diskette. The
- decompressed documentation files won't fit on a single 360K
- floppy with the other EDDY files.
-
- b. To access the documentation files, run EDDY_DOC.EXE from this
- separate diskette. This will decompress the User's Manual and
- other information files. These files will require about 250 KB
- of disk space when decompressed.
-
- Once EDDY is installed, the simplest way to get familiar with it is to
- just type "EDDY" and [Enter]. There is no danger of damage to your disk
- data, because no changes will be made to any of your directories or
- files unless you explicitly tell EDDY to do so. A message telling you
- what is about to occur is always displayed, and a confirmation keypress
- is always required.
-
-
- Conditions of Use
- -----------------
-
- EDDY is supplied as-is. The author disclaims all warranties, expressed
- or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchant-
- ability and the warranties of fitness for any purpose. Copies of the
- program may not be sold for more than the cost of the medium they are
- copied on, plus reasonable handling charges. EDDY and its User's Manual
- may be copied ad lib provided all files, including the author's
- copyright notice and disclaimers of warranty are reproduced in full.
-
- Although EDDY is distributed in this way, it is NOT free and is NOT in
- the public domain. After a reasonable trial period, if you find EDDY to
- be useful and satisfactory to you, and you continue to use EDDY, then
- please send a usage and registration fee of $20.00 to:
-
- John Scofield
- 22304 Gilmore St.
- Canoga Park, CA 91303
- USA
-
- This low fee entitles you to technical support as described in EDDY.DOC,
- to receive one free update, subsequent updates at cost of distribution,
- and to the satisfaction of knowing you have done "the right thing".
-
- THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
