  7.     NOTE: ARCCFG and NARCCFG are not and have never been shareware.
  8.           They are commercial packages.

  11.     There are many ways for end users to communicate with a software
  12.     package when the need arises. You have config files that are
  13.     set up by the user and read by the software at run time. The
  14.     drawback to this method is that the config file must always
  15.     be available which would create several problems for floppy
  16.     users. You have the configuration program that changes the
  17.     EXE file with your selected information. This really has no
  18.     drawbacks, other than the you must have the configuration
  19.     program. The other method, and the one chosen for IDCSHELL and
  20.     NARC, is environment variables. You don't need a config file or
  21.     a configuration program, they can be changed on the fly and
  22.     are always available. For these reasons, IDC has chosen to
  23.     implement several variables to aid in the configuration of
  24.     IDCSHELL and NARC.

  26.     There are several things that need to be set up in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  27.     file, before certain functions of IDCSHELL and NARC can be used.

  30.     CALLING YOUR EDITOR (F9 key in IDCSHELL and NARC)
  31.     
  32.     Before you can call your editor from IDCSHELL, IDCSHELL needs to
  33.     know the name of the editor and where it can be found. This is
  34.     accomplished by setting the IDCED environment variable. See
  35.     IDCSHELL.DOC "Environment variables".

  37.     CALLING NARC FROM IDCSHELL
  38.     
  39.     Before you can call NARC from IDCSHELL, IDCSHELL needs to know the
  40.     name (if you have renamed NARC) and where it can be found. If you
  41.     always remain in the same directory, then IDCSHELL will look in the
  42.     current directory for NARC.EXE, but if you do any moving around at
  43.     all, then IDCSHELL will probably not be able to locate NARC. For this
  44.     reason, you need to set the NARCPATH environment variable. See
  45.     IDCSHELL.DOC "Environment variables".

  47.     CALLING IDCSHELL FROM NARC

  49.     The same reasoning applies here as did above. The environment
  50.     variable is IDCARCPATH.

  52.     THE ANSI VIEW FUNCTION IN IDCSHELL

  54.     Before this function will display ANSI files correctly, you must
  55.     have installed the ANSI.SYS (or equiv.) device driver.

  57.     IDCSHELL HELP SYSTEM

  59.     The help system in IDCSHELL needs to know where its help file is
  60.     IDCHELP.HLP (do not edit this file). This is done with the
  61.     IDCHELP environment variable.

  63.     NARC HELP SYSTEM

  65.     The help system in NARC needs to know where its help file is
  66.     NARCHELP.HLP (do not edit this file). This is done with the
  67.     NARCHELP environment variable.

  69.     TEMPORARY FILES

  71.     When NARC views files, it needs to extract the file first and
  72.     does this to a temporary file. You may tell NARC where to build
  73.     this temp file via the IDCTEMP environment variable.

  79.     IDCSHELL.EXE, NARC.EXE and all associated files are copyrighted 1988
  80.     by Infinity Design Concepts, Inc, all rights are reserved. These
  81.     programs have been placed on bulletin boards for distribution as
  82.     SHAREWARE. As such, copying and distributing is heartily encouraged
  83.     as long as NO FEE is charged and all files remain in their
  84.     original published condition. The programs may not be used in any
  85.     way for commercial purposes without the expressed written consent
  86.     of the author.

  88.     NARCCFG.EXE and ARCCFG.EXE are not and have never been placed on
  89.     any bulletin boards by IDC. These are not shareware programs, but
  90.     commercial packages and are only availible to registered users.

  92.     With the shareware concept, YOU are the big winner. Authors create
  93.     many programs and you are offered the chance to try them before
  94.     buying them. You don't get that respect when you go to a software
  95.     house, you have to buy and cry sometimes. The shareware concept
  96.     benefits everyone if the rules are followed. YOU have authors
  97.     working very long and hard hours, thousands of man hours, to
  98.     bring you a software package that you may find of use. If you
  99.     don't like the software, then you have not laid down any money
  100.     and are out nothing except some time spent evaluating the software.
  101.     If you do like the software and do continue to use the software,
  102.     then you are morally bound to purchase it. Not purchasing and
  103.     continuing to use shareware software, is stealing, no if's
  104.     and's or but's about it. Shareware authors cannot continue to
  105.     develop software and GIVE it away, it just wouldn't make any
  106.     sense and if shareware authors are lost, then we have all lost
  107.     something and made a sad statement regarding the honesty of human 
  108.     nature.
