  3. Users of GetBack must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
  4. "GetBack is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  5. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
  6. the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
  7. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
  8. quential, which may result from the use of GetBack."

  10. GetBack is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
  11. the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  12. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  13. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  14. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  15. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  16. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  17. useful and find that you are using GetBack and continue to use
  18. GetBack after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  19. istration payment of $35 to MicroTools.  The $35 registration fee
  20. will license one copy for use on any one computer at any one
  21. time.  You must treat this software just like a book.  An example
  22. is that this software may be used by any number of people and may
  23. be freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as
  24. there is no possibility of it being used at one location while
  25. it's being used at another.  Just as a book cannot be read by two
  26. different persons at the same time.

  28. Registration may be accomplished by check, money order or credit
  29. card using the enclosed registration form or over the phone by
  30. credit card.

  32. Commercial users of GetBack must register and pay for their
  33. copies of GetBack within 30 days of first use or their license
  34. is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
  35. tacting MicroTools.

  37. Anyone distributing GetBack for any kind of remuneration must
  38. first contact MicroTools at the address below for authorization.
  39. This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
  40. recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
  41. shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
  42. GetBack immediately (However MicroTools must still be advised so
  43. that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
  44. version of GetBack.).

  46. You are encouraged to pass a copy of GetBack along to your
  47. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their
  48. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users
  49. will receive a copy of the latest version of the GetBack
  50. software, a printed manual and technical support over the phone.

  116. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  117.  
  118. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  119. before buying it.  If you try a Shareware program and continue
  120. using it, you are expected to register.  Individual programs
  121. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  122. require it, some specify a maximum trial period.  With
  123. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  124. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  126. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  127. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  128. exceptions as stated below.  Shareware authors are accomplished
  129. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  130. of comparable quality.  (In both cases, there are good programs
  131. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  132. distribution.  The author specifically grants the right to copy
  133. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  134. specific group.  For example, some authors require written
  135. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  136. Shareware.

  138. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.  You
  139. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  140. whether it's commercial or Shareware.  The Shareware system makes
  141. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  142. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also.  Shareware
  143. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  144. product, you don't pay for it.
