- The idea of rotating what day of the week it is, and having your
- system display a different note for THAT day, is NOT unique. I
- have explained below WHY I wrote this little utility MYSELF,
- though.
-
-
- 3 VERY BASIC STEPS to follow. (For the END USER.)
-
-
-
- * 1) Copy ALL the CONTENTS of this ZIP Package to the
- "WHATDAY" directory. If you haven't made it, make one
- now. (At The DOS Command Line Type:
-
- MD WHATDAY
-
- * 2) Include the line:
-
- "CALL [d:]\WHATDAY\WHATDAY.BAT"
-
- in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
-
- * 3) Include the the line:
-
- TYPE [d:]\WHATDAY\DAYBULL
-
- in your AUTOEXEC.BAT (Or any other place
- that I may have over looked as being a smart
- place to include it.)
-
- [d:] d=drive letter, of course.
-
- If you don't want the program to display
- to the screen, execute it like so:
-
- WHATDAY > NUL
-
- THAT's IT!
-
- Programming Notes:
-
- * The program operates FINE using the current directory for a path.
- There's really no need to create the WHATDAY directory. I merely
- posted it that way to make it simple. You can run WHATDAY ALL BY ITSELF
- in the current path. You MUST have DAYx in the default directory though.
- When the program finishes, you can simply "TYPE" DAYBULL to your screen.
-
- This is an extremely SIMPLE program that merely uses a "SHELL" to
- get the date from DOS. Figure out what number day of the week it
- is, then it "SHELLs" to copy the file DAYx over DAYBULL. Modify each of
- the "DAYx" files to your heart's desires. The "DAYx" files are simple
- ASCII type.
-
-
- * * NOTE: **** THE VERY FIRST INSTRUCTION IN THIS PROGRAM IS TO
- CLOSE any open FILES. If you think this will cause any
- problems with your setup, PLEASE CALL me?! I'll send
- you the program WITHOUT that instruction included.
-
- I've ran this program with DOS 5.0 for LONG over a month
- and DR DOS 6.0 withOUT any problems. Its going to be
- extremely rare that this program will NOT run on your
- system if you have DOS 3.0 or above.
-
- Why this program?
-
- Writing a program to assist the System Operator (or End User)
- with this minor task and NOT posting a message ALL OVER the place,
- asking for a $xx donation, or broadcasting something to the effect
- "NON Registered Copy..." etc is what inspired me to write this program.
-
- I'm SICK and TIRED of programmers writing something that helps
- the SysOp (or End User), but then blasts it all over the place
- that "This Is NOT Registered!" or BEGs for money from the SysOp
- (or End User), who has already spent HALF his life offering his
- System. (Understatement, eh?)
-
- My opinion is that SysOps (or End Users) have already paid DEARLY
- for the AWESOME service they (we) provide or the end users, their
- systems they paid for.
-
- The ONLY thing that I ask for THIS little utility is that `MAYBE'
- someday, you call and say thanks. THAT's IT! Enjoy "WhatDay"
