  12.      You must unarchive the V-MailServer files using the command:
  13.      "PKUNZIP -d VMS220".  The reason is that many of the configuration and
  14.      text files are in separate subdirectories.  VINSTALL looks in these
  15.      subdirectories for the files.

  19.      If you already have V-MailServer installed, MAKE SURE you install this
  20.      version to a different subdirectory.  VINSTALL will overwrite files
  21.      without warning.

  23.      Details about installation and upgrading are in VMAIL.DOC, in the
  24.      Installation section.

  26.      As a note, the structure of some files has changed.  It is much simpler
  27.      to install V-MailServer into a new subdirectory, and copy any existing
  28.      configuration data to the new files, than to update existing files.

  35.      Much of the documentation uses IBM graphics characters for underlines
  36.      are separating lines.  If your printer cannot print these characters,
  37.      you can strip them from the files using the supplied NOGRAPH program. 
  38.      NOGRAPH is a very simple filter program that reads from the standard
  39.      input and writes to the standard output, replacing all graphics
  40.      characters with spaces.  An example:

  42.      NOGRAPH < VMAIL.DOC > VMAIL.TXT

  44.      VMAIL.TXT will print correctly on any printer.

  47.      Upgrading from Beta 1.03
  48.      ------------------------
  49.      Before upgrading, read HISTORY.DOC and the "Installation" and
  50.      "Configuring Mailing Lists" sections in VMAIL.DOC.

  52.      There is no need to run VINSTALL (unless you really want to).  If you
  53.      not run VINSTALL, make sure you check the new WORDS files for and
  54.      %Ins...% macros, and change them as you see fit.

  56.      Add the two new WORDS files (UNSUBFAI.TXT and SHORT.HLP) to your WORDS
  57.      subdirectory.

  59.      Add the new configuration option "To-Format" to VMS.CFG.  The
  60.      recommended format is "To-Format Separate".  See the Configuration
  61.      Options section in the manual for more details.

  69.      Remove all "STRIP" commands in DEFAULT.HC and QUEUE.HC, and replace them
  70.      with a single "STRIP *" command.  This will prevent any headers from
  71.      being passed through to the outgoing messages.

  74.      Read the "Configuring Mailing Lists" section in the manual, and make any
  75.      changes you need to.  After completing any changes to the mailing lists,
  76.      you will need to create the index entries in the membership file.  The
  77.      user-defined command REINDEX-LIST is provided that will do this
  78.      automatically.  The "TEST\REINDEX" file contains a sample message file
  79.      containing a REINDEX-LIST command for 'test-l' and 'secure-l'.  Add
  80.      additional REINDEX-LIST commands as required, for all the lists that
  81.      have been configured.

  85.      Upgrading from Beta 1.02
  86.      ------------------------

  88.      Upgrading from Beta 1.02 is simple; simply overwrite the existing
  89.      executable files with the new ones.  There is no need to re-run
  90.      VINSTALL.

  92.      There are a few new configuration parameters - "LogType",
  93.      "Mail-Spool-Drive", "Minimum-Free-Spool".  See the source VMS.CFG file,
  94.      the Install section in VMAIL.DOC, and the Configuration File section for
  95.      more details.

  97.      The header conversion files now can use the "*" wildcard in the STRIP
  98.      command.  See the files "default.hc" and "queue.hc", in the ACL
  99.      subdirectory for examples.  I've added more headers to them that need to
  100.      be stripped.  You should update your files accordingly.
