  71. What is Flex Select?

  73. All QWK based mail doors will only allow you to download all or none of
  74. the new mail once it has completed the mail scan.
  75.  
  76. With Silver Xpress, you can choose exactly what mail you want to download
  77. using special mail bundling commands called Flex Select <tm>.
  78.  
  79. At the FLEX prompt, the easiest flex command is A which says GET all the
  80. mail shown in the scan table.  Or you can type GO which says GET all the
  81. mail currently defined by flex select mail bundling commands.  By default,
  82. all of your mail will be available for download.
  83.  
  84. But suppose you saw too much mail?  You may want to select some mail from
  85. this forum, some mail from that forum, all the mail form this forum, the
  86. last 50 from that forum, etc?  No Problem!  Flex Select will allow you to
  87. do just that!  No other QWK mail door has this FEATURE!

  95. What is Flex Assistant?
  96.  
  97. The Flex Select system is an advanced feature of Silver Xpress.  To assist
  98. in the learning process, Silver Xpress has a feature to help you "size" the
  99. amount of mail you want per forum.  This is called the Flex Assistant.

  101. When Flex Assistant is enabled by typing "ASSIST", Xpress will display each
  102. mail forum one at a time and ask if you want to:
  103.  
  104.     A)  Get all your mail
  105.     D)  Get the direct personal mail
  106.     K)  Get the mail with keywords only
  107.     P)  Get the personal mail (direct and keywords)
  108.     S)  Skip the forum
  109.     H)  Hold the forum mail until next time
  110.     F)  Get the first X amount of mail
  111.     L)  Get the last  X amount of mail

  113. This will allow you to quickly use the mail bundling powers of Silver
  114. Xpress to optimize mail retrieval and minimize the size of your mail load.

  122. Getting all your Mail

  124. When Silver Xpress finishes the scanning for new mail, it will display
  125. you a table showing the results of the scan.  It will display the total
  126. amount of mail.  By default, all the mail will be available for bundling
  127. and downloading.  If you simply type A or GO, all of your mail will be
  128. bundled.

  130. Note, type GO says "Go get the mail I told you to get".  So if you typed
  131. some flex select mail bundling commands, the GO command will begin the
  132. bundling process, whereas A will ignore all your previous flex select
  133. commands and get ALL the mail.

  141. Getting all your direct mail

  143. If you have any direct mail available, you may type D, and Xpress will only
  144. bundle the mail directly addressed to you.  Direct mail includes mail
  145. address under your name and/or your alias name if the BBS allows for such
  146. anonymous mail.

  154. Getting just the mail with the keywords you defined
  155.  
  156. Under the configuration section of Silver Xpress, you are allowed to
  157. define an unlimited set of keywords or rules to "Program" Xpress to
  158. search for certain types of mail.  For instance, you can have Xpress
  159. find all messages with the Subject "Silver Xpress".  This is called
  160. keyword mail.  If Xpress finds any, you will see this in the keyword
  161. column of the scan.  You can type K and Xpress will only bundle the
  162. keyword mail.

  164. Note:  If you want to collect only your DIRECT MAIL and your KEYWORD MAIL
  165. there is a special key "P" that you can type to collect your "PERSONAL"
  166. mail.  Personal mail includes direct and keyword mail.

  174. Getting the FIRST X amount of mail
  175.  
  176. There will be times when there is just too much mail to collect.  This is
  177. particularily true for popular mail forums where you can find anywhere from
  178. 200-300 messages per day!  If this is too much for you, Xpress will allow
  179. you to grab the FIRST X amount of new mail.  The syntax for this command
  180. is:

  182.        <forum>F<amount>

  187.   20F10              grab the first 10 messages in area # 20

  198. There will be times when there is just too much mail to collect.  This is
  199. particularily true for popular mail forums where you can find anywhere from

  219. Skipping mail in a certain forum

  221. There will be times when you may not be interested in collecting mail in
  222. certain mail forums for the current mail scan.

  224. Xpress will allow you to SKIP forums by using the minus character.  This
  225. will tell Xpress not to bother at all with the forum.  This will also tell
  226. Xpress to update your mail last read counters as well which means all the
  227. mail in the forum will be be "SKIPPED".

  243. Holding mail in a certain forum for the next mail scan
  244.  
  245. Holding mail is very similar to SKIPPING mail.  However, your last read mail
  246. counters are not updated.  This means the next time you do a mail scan, you
  247. can pick up the mail you told Xpress to temporarily forget about.  To hold
  248. a forum, use the H command.

  262. Clearing your flex commands

  264. If you type any flex commands, you can clear the mail selected by typing
  265. the word CLEAR or -*.  Basically, this will tell Xpress to forget all
  266. mail bundling commands, including the default of getting ALL mail.

  268. Hence, if you use the CLEAR command, you must use a * to reselect all the
  269. mail (or use the A command) or follow up with more flex commands.

  277. Storing your flex commands for future use

  279. If you have a consistent set of flex commands that you like to use, you can
  280. type the word SFLEX followed by your flex commands to save the flex
  281. commands in your personal records.  You can later use the GFLEX commands
  282. to retrieve the stored FLEX commands.

  303. Attach Files, Deleting Attached Files

  305. Xpress has the capability of attaching files to your mail packet.  This
  306. is done by the sysop or by a user who has sent you a file using the
  307. Silver Xpress Mail Reader.

  309. If any attached files are available, you will see the total number of
  310. files and size at the bottom of the mail scan.  The following commands
  311. are available to maintain the attach files:

  313.   DFILE  Display any files attached to mail.
  314.   EFILE  Erase a file attached to mail.
