[INTERNET NEWS]------------------------------------------------- Web Jerks : There are several types of WebJerks that we found this month. If you remember last month we talked about "Spamming" - Well in the interest of stopping the spam! We helped e-mail people that were spamming, and posted to newsgroups that were being abused. A movement named "Operation Strikeback" says : @ Do *NOT* post off topic in any BBS related conference. Doing so will get your e-mail account placed on a list. This list will be distributed amoung the BBS Community, Then BBSers, Sysops, Door Authors, will bomb your e-mail account with thousands for useless letters - Like you have done to our newsgroups! This is not a threat, it is only a warning to let you know.... - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED - Further more - Any illegal actions will be reported - This is only in the BBS Related Newsgroups. If you ask for cracks/reg num, post cracks/reg num, offer porn to underaged children, or post any type of pyramid scheme; you will be reported to the proper authorities, and your ISP Master will be e-mailed. Operation Strike Back-Offical Start Date : 8/15/96 : Anyone Posting off topic after this date will be added to THE LIST so we got several replies - here they are and our comments : @ :Just in case others may believe that you speak for Door Authors I want to make sure they understand that you DO NOT .. in any way shape or form. - It would behoove you to speak in the singular term and reference you and your group as the ones posing the threat... the LEGITIMATE Door authors implore some higher ethical standards. -- Hmmm... LEGITIMATE Door Authors? I guess TBRTechnologies Doors are ILLEGITIMATE (No fathers?) We even posted an extra line in there that said we had nothing to do with it, we were just distributing info... Oh Well! :HEY, TWIT!............you aren't helping matters by posting this to the same newsgroups. USE EMAIL, BOZO. -- TWIT? How nice.... We let him know that if we posted e-mail only that one guy would know about O.Strikeback and we were trying to inform everyone. @ :I am VERY interested in helping you with this. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. (server space, ect.. ) -- Wow a civilized person? :I agree 100%. I've been sending all the crap that don't belong in the newsgroups back to the ISP's. -- Another? Wow, I guess O.Strikeback doesn't stand alone. Anyway, what we found is, if you don't want a little Jerk Mail don't post anything.. You will never do anything that doesn't tick someone off! - or use a fake e-mail account! <G> :) One for the road : Another person's comment I don't know who you are or how you got my address. It's not important. What is important is that you stop your mailing of my account. I don't want your junk advertisements. I tried your web page, it needs some work. Don't ever send me anything else. !CODE4! [READERS RESPONSES]--------------------------------------------- What would you like to see added to STUFF.COM : :Just more of what was in this issue. In other words a BIGGER Stuff.com. Esp. the Chatters section of the magazine, with if possible a personals section... :More user stories... maybe add some of the FEEDBACK letters sysops get. I know being a sysop there are some real funny ones. And how about a contest for the best post is certain catagories? Just a few ideas. :More detailed door reviews :How about a downloadable copy to put on my local BBS for people to download from my local BBS and view at their convenience. What was your favorite part of STUFF.COM : :Reading the the DOOR votes. I think this should be expanded to include the discription of the game and what it cost to register it. :Door Reviews. @ What is your least favorite part of STUFF.COM : :Listings of BBS's with no telnet address'. I know someone might be able to use them but the majority won't because they will be Long Distance calls for them. I'd just focus on those that have Telnet address'. This way everyone benefits from the knowledge. :To short. Just started getting my interest and then there was nothing left to read... :Chatterheads !CODE5! [Changes]------------------------------------------------------- -- Discontinued the "Chatters" section although it seemed to be popular, several of the people got to many e-mails that were offensive or an "I-Net Scam". It doesn't seem that it is a useful enough tool, and it would be exploited too much. -- Made a mistake on the Doors last issue, we didn't give description of the doors. (this months doors are the same as last) in the new format! - We will also be giving the registration cost! -- Although the reader that said "No Long Distance BBSes" is right... Telnet BBSes are better for Internet users. But we have a promise to promote the small guys! That is why we are here! - To save the dying BBS Community. -- Added Better headers.
