  3. This text has been included to provide you with important last minute infor-
  4. mation, we recommend you read the following important details regarding the
  5. RBBS-Verify online door before attempting to use the software for the first
  6. time.

  8. AUTHENTIC VERIFICATION
  9. ----------------------
  10. RBBS-Verify is distributed as a self extracting archive created with PKsfx
  11. v2.04g containing authenticity. When run, -AV should appear beside each file
  12. in the archive as it is decompressed, when decompression has completed, you
  13. should see a message similar to the following:

  18. If either of the above do not exist, this indicates that you do not have an
  19. original copy of the software distributed by us, you are therefore HIGHLY
  20. encouraged NOT to use the software. This warning is provided for your own
  21. safety and to protect you against viruses, tojans, modified files, etc.
  22. Remember, you can always obtain an official copy of the RBBS-Verify door
  23. directly from us via our support BBS, the number is located at the end of
  24. this document.

  26. Please, when distributing RBBS-Verify, distribute the original evaluation
  27. copy of the RBBSV101.EXE archive as this helps protect you and others who
  28. receive the software, you may freely recompress this file and include it in
  29. any other archive format you wish. Just be sure that the original self
  30. extracting file has been distributed.

  32. ZIP/EXE FILE FORMAT
  33. -------------------
  34. Since many systems do not directly support uploads of *.EXE format files, you
  35. might have received a different archive format. We distribute both a *.EXE and
  36. *.ZIP archive, both of the original archives distributed by us will contain
  37. authenticity verification. However if you received a different archive format
  38. other than *.EXE that doesn't contain authenticity, check inside for a self
  39. extracting archive. If it contains the self extracting archive, decompress
  40. the archive making sure it contains authenticity as described above, as long
  41. as the original self extracting file includes authentic file verification, you
  42. have received a original copy of the software.

  46. We know there are many other callback verification doors out there, but we
  47. also know that none compare to RBBS-Verify! RBBS-Verify is the result of our
  48. belief and desire for a better callback verification door for RBBS systems,
  49. it is the result of endless development time, and as time goes by it will
  50. continue to be enhanced with yet even more special features. RBBS-Verify is
  51. priced very affordable, and offers features no other door on the market has.

  53. tested on multiple systems under very "rough" conditions, and has never
  54. failed one time to accomplish it's task. When we say intelligent, we mean

  59. systems needs, and if after running the door on your own system, if you

  63. SHELL TO DOS NOTES
  64. ------------------
  65. Since RBBS-Verify is a large application only so much memory will be made
  66. available when shelling (dropping) to DOS, if you frequently drop to DOS
  67. in order to run another application, you might wish to look into a utility
  68. known as SHROOM. SHROOM is a very nice shareware application which intercepts
  69. an application's shell and swaps the entire application out of memory, which
  70. instantly frees almost all conventional memory, when exiting the shell,
  71. SHROOM automatically swaps the application back in to memory and returns
  72. control to the application. Since RBBS-Verify uses internal program overlays,
  73. shelling to DOS and running another application can cause problems, especially
  74. if the application trys to take part of the doors memory. Shelling to DOS
  75. to perform routine tasks and running small applications will not cause any
  76. problem, however if you frequently run larger applications in DOS shells,
  77. you should highly consider using a utility such as SHROOM. SHROOM is
  78. available on our support BBS under the filename of SHROOM9C.ZIP.

  80. SYSOP CHAT/SHELL TO DOS NOTES
  81. -----------------------------
  82. When entering Sysop chat with a user - RBBS-Verify will change the caller's
  83. time to 999 minutes, this is normal and prevents the user from running out
  84. of online system time during chat mode, after exiting chat mode, the user's
  85. time limit will return to the previous value. This also applies to the Sysop
  86. drop to DOS function. Also please note that RBBS-Verify does not track
  87. keyboard input time during Sysop chat mode.

  89. NODE PARAMETER NOTE
  90. -------------------
  91. RBBS-Verify will default to 1 if no node number is specified, so, if you will
  92. be using the door on a single node only system it is not required to specify
  93. a node number.
  94.  
  95. BAUD RATES/PARITY SUPPORTED
  96. ---------------------------
  97. RBBS-Verify directly supports up to 115,200 BPS locked DTE, without using any
  98. fossil driver. However, it is important to note that RBBS-PC supports up to
  99. a maximum of 38,400 BPS, therefore you will not be able to use RBBS-Verify
  100. at any higher rate than 38,400. RBBS-Verify also supports both 8,N,1 and
  101. the odd 7,E,1 parity.
  102.  
  103. KNOWN BUGS
  104. ----------
  105. There is a minor bug in v4.0 of the Door Source library that was used to
  106. compile RBBS-Verify, at midnight you might notice that the user's timeleft
  107. displayed on the status line jumps up to an odd number in the thousands,
  108. this does NOT cause any problem with RBBS-Verify itself, nor does it cause
  109. any problem with RBBS-PC, however does cause the status bar to display an
  110. invalid timeleft value, and may cause RBBS-Verify to pass a invalid timeleft
  111. value via the SUCCESSV.x and SUCCESSC.x door information files. This problem
  112.  
  113. deals with v4.0 of the Door Source library, as soon as this problem is
  114. corrected with Door Source there will be a minor bug fix version of
  115. RBBS-Verify released.
  116.

  122. WHAT DOES RBBS-VERIFY REQUIRE?
  123. ------------------------------
  124. RBBS-Verify is a large door and therefore does have several requirements
  125. which your system must meet in order to operate the door, these are as
  126. follows:
  127.  
  128. - Minimum of 512K RAM (640K is recommended)
  129. - DOS operating system version 3.0 or above
  130. - Working serial I/O communication port
  131. - Modem supporting the Hayes "AT" command set
  132. - RBBS-PC v16.x or greater
  133.  
  134. RBBS-Verify requires the DOS operating system v3.0 or above since all files
  135. are opened in "SHARED" mode. RBBS-Verify fully supports all network and
  136. multitasking software and has successfully been tested with Microsoft
  137. Windows and DesqView running multiple nodes with locked communication ports.
  138.  
  139. NOTE ON FILE-LOCKING
  140. --------------------
  141. RBBS-Verify has been developed in a network environment and fully supports
  142. file sharing and locking abilities to allow multiple nodes to use the door
  143. at the same time, however in order for this feature to be active SHARE.EXE
  144. (included with DOS) or an equilivent utility *MUST* be active! If you are
  145. operating in a network environment such as a multitasker or LAN, please be
  146. sure file sharing is active. Failure to follow this simple instruction can
  147. result in lost/corrupted files. You have been warned!
  148.  
  149. NOTES ON ERROR TRAPPING
  150. -----------------------
  151. RBBS-Verify incorporates two different forms of error trapping routines to
  152. help protect your system from potential lockups, the first is run-time error
  153. checking during loading and initialization of the door, due to the nature of
  154. this type of run-time error, RBBS-Verify will be unable to notify the caller,
  155. therefore it will display this error to the local display only and abort the
  156. door - returning to the system, the second form of error checking is during
  157. the actual operation of the door, any run-time errors which may occur will
  158. cause RBBS-Verify to display a fatal error message to the caller and abort
  159. the door - returning to the system. RBBS-Verify has been written to prevent
  160. potential lockups should any run-time errors occur, there is however always
  161. the chance the error will be so severe that RBBS-Verify will be unable to
  162. recover, although this would be an extremely rare situation. Run-time errors
  163. may occur for many, many different reasons, perhaps there is a error in the
  164. configuration file, or the door is unable to read the DORINFOx.DEF file due
  165. due to it being corrupted, should you ever receive a "fatal" error message
  166. whether during loading of the door or during operation, view the log file
  167. RBBS-Verify creates, ERRORx.LOG (where x is the node number), this file lists
  168.  
  169. any run-time errors which occurred and at what time and date, these error
  170. codes indicate QuickBasic's standard errors, check the configuration file,
  171. batch files, and other setup information to insure everything has been setup
  172. correctly, if you are unable to solve the problem, have this error number
  173. handy and contact us for support.
