- WHAT IS RANPOST
- ---------------
-
- ver 1.00 of RanPost is ** FREEWARE **
-
- RanPost is a complimentary utility used with BlackBoards Random title door.
- it creates a TOP10 poster list in Ansi format, or Wildcats! .BBS format
- by reading the Random.log that the Title door creates. An ascii display file
- will automatically be created along with your color display file.
-
-
- ARCHIVE CONTENTS
- ----------------
- The RANP100.ZIP archive contains :
-
- RanPost.DOC
- RanPost.EXE
- Top10.ANS
- Top10.ASC
- Top10.BBS
-
- RanPost will create two additional files called :
-
- RanPost.DAT (holds user information)
- SYSOP.DAT (Contains Sysop cinfigurations)
-
- NOTE - All of these file must be in the same directory that you are running
- BlackBoards Random Title door.
-
-
-
-
- SETTING UP RanPost
- ------------------
- Unzip the RANP100.zip file into the same directory where you are running
- Blackboards Random Title door. at the command prompt type ranpost. 5
- different switches will be displayed with a small discription of what each
- switch does.
-
- NOTE - RanPost Must be in the same directory as the Random title door, in order
- to read the Random.log.
-
-
- 1. Unzip RANP100.zip into the directory you are running the Random title door
- that way Ranpost can read the Random.log.
-
- 2. First run Ranpost /S to setup and create the .DAT file for ranpost to store
- users on.
-
- 3. Next run Ranpost /C to configure the type of display file to use, and
- the directories where RanPost creates the display file.
-
-
- CONFIGURING RANPOST
- -------------------
-
- To Configure RanPost, at the command prompt, run RanPost /C . You will
- get a main menu with four choices :
-
- (Q)uit to operating system
- (C)onfigure RanPost
- (E)dit current configuration
- (H)elp with configuration
-
- you can configure RanPost two different ways.
-
- 1. Press 'C' at the configuration menu, and it will take you through
- each question, 1 at a time.
-
- 2. you can Press 'E' at the configuration menu, and it will show you what
- your current configuration setting are. then you can go through and,
- manually enter each entry.
-
-
- * when it asks you to enter your display type there are 2 choices
-
- 1. Renegade .ANS
- 2. Wildcat! .BBS
-
- Enter the number coresponding to the type of display your BBS uses.
- NOTE - if you run a board other the Wildcat! or Renegade, and it
- Uses Ansi codes for display, the you can select renegade.
-
- when we made this file for Darrin's Random Title Door, we tried to make
- it support both Renegade, and Wildcat! display types.
-
- obviously .ANS is for Renegade, and .BBS is for Wildcat!. But we threw
- in an extra .ASC file that RanPost automatically creates in the same
- directory you specify in the configuration.
-
-
- * AUTORESET - when you are asked to enter the amount of days for RanPost to
- run before it autoresets, enter the amount of days you would like. if you
- would like to RanPost to autoreset after a week, enter 7, or any other
- amout of days you would like.
-
-
-
-
- * when it asks you to enter the name of the display file to create
- just enter the name you wish to use, so your bbs can recognize it.
- i.e. Hello1.BBS, for a Wildcat! hello screen, or what ever your board uses.
-
- NOTE - Do Not call it TOP10, or else your display file will not show up
- properly, and may not show up at all. You will lose the TOP10
- file in the Random title directory, and will have to unzip the
- RANP100.ZIP archive in the Random Title directory again.
-
-
- * when it asks you to enter the path, just enter the full path to your
- bbs's display file directory. NO trailing backslash. Make sure you
- enter the full path.
- i.e. C:\Wildcat\Disp
-
- you can make your Display file, eaither a Hello screen, or a bulletin.
- if you decide to make it a bulletin, then enter the path to your
- bulletin directory.
- i.e. C:\Wildcat\bulletin
-
-
-
- * when it asks about the names to exclude, enter the names you DON'T
- want to show up on the TOP10 list. you can exclude up to 5 names.
- enter one at a time though.
-
- then you are done with the Ranpost /C switch
-
-
- in the configuration menu, there is also a help option, in case you need
- to see examples.
-
-
-
-
- RUNNING RanPost
- ---------------
-
- To run RanPost, we suggest adding RanPost /U to your Random Title door batch
- file to run automatically after someone quits out of the title door :
-
- SAMPLE BATCH FILE
- -----------------
- @Echo off
- c:
- cd\bbs\doors\random
- RANDOM.EXE /PC:\bbs\nodedirectory
- RANPOST /U
- ---------------------------------
-
- you can also run RanPost in an event file every night also. Just set up
- an event within your bbs to execute RanPost /U.
-
- RECOMMEND - we highly recommend using RanPost within your Random title
- door batch file, just to keep it up to the minute, every time someone
- quits out of the title door.
-
-
-
-
-
- OTHER THINGS WITH RanPost
- -------------------------
-
- 5. The other two switches Ranpost /R, and Ranpost /E, are for you to use
- when ever you want to
-
- 1. RanPost /E - View all the users that have used the random title
- door while RanPost was being used ( RanPost /E )
-
- 2. Even though in the RanPost Configuration, you set it to autoreset
- after a certain amount of days, you can use the RanPost /R command
- to reset ranpost manually.
-
-
- MINOR TECH SUPPORT
- ------------------
- * If you should happen to have trouble with RanPost, you can check to see
- if any of the following will help you out :
-
- 1. I ran Ranpost, but the display screen was completly blank?
-
- - Unless no one has used the Random title door, or RanPost hasn't been
- reset, there should be a list of users on the display screen.
- edit the Random.log in the Random title directory. At the bottom of
- the random.log, there is an ASCII charactor ( » ) that holds the place
- for Ranpost to read. Remove the ( » ) charactor from the Random.Log
- and re-run Ranpost.
-
-
- 2. I keep getting a run-time error when I run RanPost?
-
- - If you keep getting a Run-time error while running RanPost, check the
- random title directory, and make sure the following files are in it :
-
- TOP10.ASC
- TOP10.ANS
- TOP10.BBS
-
- if these files are omitted from the random title directory, Ranpost will
- not be able to file the correct display screen for your system. If you
- have misplaced those three files, just unzip another copy of Ranpost
- into the Random title directory.
