- 2. Registration
- ---------------
- At the very begining, I must ask you to excuse my "Tarzan"
- English. I hope you'll be able to understand Swahilly I use :)
-
- QLCD isn't crippleware. It is a fully functional product, with a
- 30 days evaluation period. After 30 days it will work just as
- good as it worked before, and if you continue to use it, you are
- required to register QLCD-Rom Door.
-
- Please, see the registration form at the end of this file.
-
- UNREGISTERED EVALUATION COPY of QLCD v1.5 has no time-delay and
- it is not crippled in any way.
-
- QLCD is a result of 13 months of hard work. Big Pizzas from
- Jadranka's kitchen and lots of Croatian beer "Bansko Pivo" are
- a few things I can't forget :))

-
- 5. Introduction
- ---------------
- Welcome to the QLCD-Rom Door, the most powerfull CD-Rom Door.
-
- QLCD represents an effort to unify all the good sides of the similar
- door programs in one program, with some specialities which put QLCD
- on the very top of similar CD managers available today.
-
- Options and capabilities which make my program different from similar
- programs, appeared as an idea during the test phase od the several
- CD-ROM managers on the G-Box. Most of them had one similar option,
- but none of them had all options that would satisfy me as a Sysop.
-
- I tried to get in touch with some of the authors of similar door
- programs and suggest certain improvements in their programs.
- I can't say there wasn't any understanding on their side, but there
- was never any true realization of any of my suggestions.
-
- Then I decided to write the QLCD-ROM Door, and results of my efforts
- are at you disposal. I'm aware that there is no such thing as the
- perfect program, but I'll be glad to prove my suggestions right
- through realization of this program and to animate other authors to try
- and make the same or even better thing! :)
-

-
-
- 9. QLCD Options
- ---------------
- SELECT CD-ROM
-
- This option allows you to select one of the available CD's on this
- system. Enter #number of CD, and then press <Enter>. As you can see,
- some CD's are marked as "DL" (available for DownLoad), some of
- them as "RL" (only for reading description list). QLCD warns you
- if your intention is to DL from a CD marked as "RL".
-
- In version 1.3, "DL" was changed to "On-Line", and "RL" to "Off-Line".
-
- CHOOSE DIR, TAG FILES, DOWNLOAD
-
- This option allows you to Choose one directory from CD, shows
- you (multiple or single line) file descriptions, allows you to TAG
- desired files, View taged files with an option for Untaging files,
- View Zip Archive contents, and to DownLoad desired files.
- QLCD warns you if remaining Time, or remaining KBytes are
- insufficient for Downloading.
-
- OFF-LINE FILE REQUEST
-
- This option allows to Select any Off-Line CD, Choose any directory
- and Tag any off-line file as a part of your Request. Depending on SysOp,
- requested files will be prepared as soon as possible, and user will
- be able to DownLoad them the next time he visits the QLCD-Rom Door.
- QLCD warns user if Request is still waiting for user input. User may
- choose New Request, but in that case, the Old one will be Deleted.
-
- This option is controlled by User Security Level (see new QLCD.CFG,
- line 13).
-
- GLOBAL DOWNLOAD
-
- This is one of the powerfull QLCD options, which recognizes differences
- between QLCD and other CD-managing Doors.
-
- It allows you to Download files without "mumbo-jumbo" choosing, taging
- etc. Two things which you must know are: from which CD you
- want to DL, and what's the name of the File you want to DL. This option
- is controlled by User Security Level (see QLCD.CFG file, line 9).
- User, whose level are higher than, or equal to the level specified
- in QLCD.CFG, can access Global DL option from Main Menu.
-
- TEXT SEARCH
-
- This option allows you to Search Text from the File Description List,
- TAG desired files, View taged files with suboption for Untaging
- files, View Zip Archive contents, and allows you to DownLoad
- desired files. QLCD warns you if remaining Time, or remaining KBytes
- are insufficient for Downloading.
-
- Maximum of 8 characters is allowed for the Text Search,
- which is not Case-Sensitive.
-
- NEED HELP ?
-
- This option gives you help on desired Topic. If no help
- file is available, QLCD reports an error and writes it to
- the ERRxx.LOG file.
-
- USER STATISTIC
-
- Informing user / sysop about some statistic data:
-
- Name
- Node (Which Node is QLCD active)
- Sec. Level (User Security Level)
- COMM (Which Comm port is active)
- QLCD Started On
- Network (Is LAN active?)
- Remaining Minutes
- Baudrate (DCE Speed)
- Remaining Bytes Today
- Locked (DTE Speed)
-
-
- LAST 10 CALLERS
-
- Information about Last Ten visitors of the QLCD-Rom Door. You may
- see data, like - which Node, what Time and Date, and who was on
- before you.
-
- PAGE SYSOP
-
- The most popular option. 10 seconds Paging is more than many SysOps
- like, so, if you don't respond, message "SysOp isn't right here..."
- appears on booth local and remote screens.
-
- RETURN TO BBS
-
- Ends User's visit to the QLCD, and returns him to the Board. If
- he/she finds a bug, we encourage him/her (you) to send mail to our Fido,
- or Internet address:
-
- Ivan Drzanic 2:381/102 (FidoNet)
- ivan.drzanic@g-box.fido.hr (Internet)
-
-
- 10. How a door works
- --------------------
- Understanding how a door works is good to know, so here's a
- simple diagram on what happens:
-
- BBS Creates DOOR.SYS file and exits
- \|/
- Door's batch file is run
- \|/
- |--> Door loads and reads in DOOR.SYS file
- | \|/
- |--> The door opens the communications port
- | \|/
- the QLCD-Rom |--> User interacts with the door
- handles this | \|/
- |--> Door exits, updating DOOR.SYS file
- | \|/
- | BBS reloads and reads in the interface file (not every one)
- |--> (Autoupdating Maximus LASTUSxx.BBS)
- \|/
- User continues using the bbs
-
-
-
- Some people don't like reading a large manual, and usually
- jump right in with both feet and start off, but if you want
- a quick start, please, read this instructions.
-
-
- 11. Quick Start
- ---------------
- Make a directory named QLCD.
- Make a QLCD subdirs, depending on how many CD-disks you have:
-
- D:\QLCD\WV1 <-- World Vision 1 CD
- \MM <-- Modem Madness CD
- \NO17 <-- Night Owl 17 CD
- ...etc.
-
- Copy so-called FILES.BBS from CD in the right subdir. It's
- irrelevant how you name the "FILES.BBS" file. See one of
- the included *.DIR files. Please, read chapter about FBCONV.EXE,
- a new QLCD-Rom utility for FILES.BBS converting.
-
-
-
- 12. UnZip QLCD153.ZIP in QLCD directory.

-
- Edit all *.CFG, *.BAT, *.DIR, *.BL, QLCD.MEC files (shown latter),
- and start QLCD in LOCAL mode (options in sq.brackets):
-
- QLCD153 DOOR01.CFG LOCAL DOORSYS [LOCKED:38400] [NETWORK]
-
- QLCD takes all information it needs from the dummy DOOR.SYS, so, if you
- want to change Node, Port, Speed, User Name etc. edit the included dummy
- DOOR.SYS. If you don't know how DOOR.SYS is organized, take a look
- at the sample QLCD.MEC. It will show you each DOOR.SYS line description
- and its meaning. Dummy DOOR.SYS is only for local testing.
-

- 1. CD-Drive (place '#' in every line, except if you want to configure
- HD-drive as CD, in that case put HD drive letter. After
- every start, QLCD process Self-Recognition, Checking
- On-Line CDs and Auto-Updating of CDLIST.CFG file with the
- required data. You may no longer edit the configuration
- file if while changing CD in the drive. Let QLCD work
- for you!)
-
- * VERY IMPORTANT !
-
- See QLCD.CFG, line 14. From version 1.53, you may choose the way
- of CDLIST.CFG handling. Default is Checking On-Line CDs and Auto
- Updating of CDLIST.CFG (QLCD.CFG, line 14 = 1). If you decide to
- use manually configured CDLIST.CFG (line 14 = 0), you must use
- drive letter instead '#' and 'DL' instead 'RL' if CD is on-line.
- This may be useful if you are lucky owner of CD-Changer ;-)
-
- 2. CD-Status (place "DL" only if configuring HD, place "RL" or
- whatever you want if configuring CD: QLCD process
- Status Checking for every CD. If a CD is Off-Line,
- 'RL' ('Read List') appears next to CD's name. If a CD
- is On-Line, 'DL' ('Down Load') status appears next to
- CD's name. Remember, QLCD works for you!)
-
- 3. CD-Name (Maximum of 14 characters, without commas included, but you
- may include spaces in the name of a CD.)
-
- 4. CD-Dir (Name of the configuration file for this CD. Each CD must
- have one. Other important information needed for QLCD's

- 17. Sample *.DIR Configuration File (HD)
- ----------------------------------------
- HD Files*HD*no_need*D:\QLCD\HD
- GUIDA.LST,QLCD\HD\GUIDA, Guida E-Zine
-
- This format is the same as *.DIR configuration file for CD, but
- please have the following in mind:
-
- - Word "HD" tells to QLCD that you want to include your HD-files
- on-line, under QLCD.
- - Checksum is no_need if configuring HD.
-
-
- 18. CHECKSUM.EXE
- ----------------
- QLCD-Rom Utility. When configuring a new CD, use this utility to
- get a CD-Checksum. Put given number it the right place in *.DIR file.
- It's very important to put the right number in the right place.
-
- Replace checksums I made, with a checksums created on your own
- system. If upgrading from QLCD v1.11 to v1.2b, you must checksum
- all your CD-disks again, because of the new release od CHECKSUM.EXE
-
- Sintax: CHECKSUM E:\ (from DOS command line)
-
-
- 19. BLACK-LIST
- --------------
- Every CD may have different black-list. Black-List is a list of
- users who can't access this CD. It's very applicable when you
- want to install CD with a files which are not suitable for
- persons under 18 years, etc. If a *.DIR file for your CD
- has a name "WW1.DIR", Black-List for this CD must have the same
- name, but a different extension: "WW1.BL". It is plain ASCI file,
- with a user names inside. Put every user name in the beginning of
- every line (file NO13.BL):
-
- Joe SysOp <-- User Name in the first line
- Honky Tonk <-- second line...
- Ivan Drzanic <-- ...etc.
-
-
- 20. SEND A MESSAGE TO SYSOP
- -------------------------
- It is QLCD's fully-automated process. When User make Request
- from any off-line CD, QLCD sends message to SysOp name. Please, edit
- the sample POST2SYS.CFG to suit your needs.
-
- You may set this options off, if:
- - there is no MSGPOST.EXE in QLCD directory
- - there is no POST2SYS.CFG in QLCD directory
-
- Sample POST2SYS.CFG (QLCD needs only this few lines):
-
- ; Your system address
- Address: 2:381/102
- ; Echomail origin line
- Origin: G-Box, Samobor, Croatia, +381 1 78-38-66
- ; Message area path (use leading '$' character for Squish areas)
- Area: $D:\TM\MATRIX\n_mail
- ; SysOp
- To: Ivan Drzanic
- ; Optional message attributes (c,f,h,k,p,r,u)
- Attr: p
- ; End of file
-
-
- 21. SEND A MESSAGE TO USER
- ------------------------
- It is an option from QLCD_FRS.EXE (File Request Server).
- After processing any User Request, SysOp may send information
- message to User. Please, edit sample POST2USR.CFG to suit your needs.
-
- This option will not work if:
- - there is no MSGPOST.EXE in QLCD directory
- - there is no POST2USR.CFG in QLCD directory
-
- Sample POST2USR.CFG (QLCD_FRS needs only this few lines):
-
- ; Your system address
- Address: 2:381/102
- ; Echomail origin line
- Origin: G-Box, Samobor, Croatia, +381 01 78-38-66

- ; End of file
-
-
- 22. QLCDxx.LOG
- --------------
- QLCD v1.3 supports 8 events loging. "xx" is number of Node. If
- QLCDxx.LOG file doesn't exist, QLCD create it when first user visit
- QLCD-Rom Door.
-
- If you are running more than 1 Node, QLCDxx.LOG appears for every
- Node: QLCD01.LOG, QLCD02.LOG, QLCD03.LOG ...etc.
-
- 8 Events are Loged: Log-In, Selected CD, Choosed DIR, DownLoad,

- 25. Command Line Options
- ------------------------
-
- LOCKED:xxxxx - Forces QLCD to lock the modem at the speed given.
- LOCAL - Forces QLCD to run in local mode. This
- is really meant for testing purposes, but it
- still reads the configuration files
- NETWORK - Forces file sharing to be active incase you
- are using something other than SHARE to manage
- file locking.
- IRQ=n - Lets you change the IRQ used for the com port
- specified in the bbs interface file.
- (See below for more information)
- ADDR=&Hnnnn - Lets you change the address used for the com
- port specified in the bbs interface file.
- (See below for more information)
- DOORSYS - Forces QLCD into 31-Line DOOR.SYS mode
-
- When you use the IRQ or the ADDR option, you must include the other.
- You can't use just the IRQ and not the ADDR, and you can't use just
- the ADDR and not the IRQ. Here's a chart with the STANDARD IRQs
- and addresses for the IBM PCs:
-
- Com port IRQ Address
- 1 4 &H3F8
- 2 3 &H2F8
- 3 4 &H3E8
- 4 3 &H2E8
- 5-8 4 &H3F8
-
- QLCD-Rom Door also takes information about COM port from DOOR.SYS,
- so, if you want to make your life easier, let QLCD get this info
- from DOOR.SYS :)
-
-
- The list of function keys (available to SysOp):
-
- F3 - Printer toggle
- F4 - Page bell toggle
- F5 - Shell to DOS
- F7 - Caller alarm toggle
- F8 - Return caller to board
- F10 - Start sysop chat
- ESC - Enter sysop chat
- ALT-X - Drop to DOS after caller logs off
- ALT-N - Sysop next on flag
-
-
- 26. News in QLCD v1.2b & upgrading notes (*):
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
- Parts marked with an asterisk (*) are very IMPORTANT.
-
- - Fixed major bug in module CHECKNODE, manifested as ERROR 76 -
- "Path not found". In early versions of QLCD-Rom Door this bug
- was not detected. I suppose this bug was created while
- optimizing the source of v1.11. Bug can be fixed by manually
- creating subdirs "NODE00", "NODE01", "NODE02" etc. of QLCD dir,
- depending on the number of BBS Nodes. Example:
-
- QLCD\NODE00 (for LOCAL testing)
- \NODE01
- \NODE02 etc.
-
- - Improved error trapping and error logging. In case of fatal error,
- ERR-Code is shown both on remote and local displays, logged in
- QLCDxx.LOG and user is returned to BBS. In case of error, user may
- leave a message to SysOp, with included error number.
-
- - Improved Remaining Time/Bytes checking in module DOWNLOAD
-
- * Added option "Off-Line File Request" in Main Menu:
-
- Files from off-line CDs are now available to your users.
- Users may enter this option depending on their User Security
- Level. The way of off-line file request is very simple and
- user friendly, same as standard "Choose DIR, TAG Files,
- DownLoad" option. 'Request' is allowed only from off-line CDs,
- and user is limited by numer of files/bytes depending on
- RemainingTime & RemainingBytes. Next time, when user enters
- QLCD-Rom Door, he may choose between Download Requested Files
- /Making New Request or Cancel Request/Delete Requested Files
- /Making New Request. Downloading requested files is also logged
- in QLCDxx.LOG.
-
- * New powerfull Off-Line File Server (QLCD_FRS v1.0)
- with options / features :
-
- # Process Request by User Name
-
- Maybe this option is silly, but if you can imagine situation
- when you have more then 150 user requests, and two of them are
- urgent, but you have no time to process all of requested files,
- you will figure out how usefull is this option. Choose user
- and process request only for him. Later, you can process all
- other requests using 'Process Request by CD Name' option.
-
- # Process Request by CD Name
-
- Very powerfull option which reduces time needed for
- processing all user requests. You can process user
- requests selectivelly, CD by CD, depending on how many free time you
- have at the moment. For example, you may process requests by
- 'Night Owl 16' CD for all users, interrupt processing, and
- continue processing tomorrow - if you wish. The best
- way to process off-line requests for all users, is playing 'freesbe'
- with your CD-disks ;-)
-
- # Delete Old Files
-
- When user DownLoaded processed files, QLCD-Rom Door delete files
- from user subdirectory. In the case when user doesn't visit BBS
- for a long time, you may delete old files using this option,
- selectivelly, user by user.
-
- # Delete User Request
-
- You may delete any user request for any reason. Perhaps, it is good
- to say that all options described are fully windowed and you
- can cancel any of destructive options, if changed decision.
-
- # User Statistics (requested files/bytes)
-
- This option shows user name, user code, number of requested
- files and sum of bytes of processed files:
-
- Joe SysOp C: 5A241 F: 45 B: 4764327
- Ivan Drzanic C: 2F1A8 F: 12 B: 1298754
-
- # Send message to User
-
- After processing any User Request, SysOp may send information
- message to User. Please, edit sample POST2USR.CFG to suit your
- needs.
-
- USERBASE.DAT is updated by QLCD_FRS, every time you process
- a new request. Maybe it's wise to make some kind of
- bulletin, so, you may expect this in the new version of QLCD.
-
- # Monochrome / Color display support
-
- # Keyboard / Mouse support
-
- # Fully windowed, short cut keys support
-
- # Automatic ZIP Archive commenting (comment routine integrated
- in QLCD_FRS)
-
- # Multi purpose event status line
-
- # High speed processing of Requested Files
-
- # SysOp friendly
-
- Start QLCD_FRS.EXE only from QLCD directory:
- QLCD_FRS _cfg_file_ (_cfg_file_ is DOOR.CFG or any DOORxx.CFG)
- If you want a mouse operation, mouse driver must be loaded first.
-
- QLCD_FRS uses or creates:
-
- DOORxx.CFG, QLCD.CFG, USEROFRL.DAT, *.OLR, *.OK, WAITREQF.DAT,
- USERBASE.DAT files.
-
- QLCD_FRS works also on LAN. You may process requested files
- from network station (Node-2) while Node-1 is active.
-
- As a ShareWare products, in their unregistered form, File Server
- and QLCD-Rom Door are not crippled in any way, and if you REGISTER
- QLCD-Rom Door, you also become a registered user of QLCD_FRS.
- In case of unavailable Help options, the only reason is - help is
- not writen yet, IMHO, you will not need it. :)
-
- * Changed CD-Checking routine and crated new CHECKSUM.EXE
- utility. When upgrading from v1.11 to v1.2b, you must check your
- CDs again with new CHECKSUM.EXE, and put result codes in *.DIR
- files.
-
- * New QLCD-Rom Utility: CommaSTRIPER v0.1 (STRPCOMA.EXE)
- If you find your FILES.BBS has old File Size notation, (like
- comma in file size: 1,240,320), use CommaSTRIPER v0.1 to strip
- commas from FILES.BBS file. If you continue to use FILES.BBS with
- commas included in file size, some problems may occure.
-
- If upgrading from v1.11 to v1.2b, and have FILES.BBS with commas
- included, please use CommaSTRIPER, because new v1.2b no longer
- supports this type of FILES.BBS.
-
- Syntax: STRPCOMA infile outfile (you may include paths)
-
- For 'infile' use one of FILES.BBS you want to strip, and for 'out
- file' choose the name different from 'infile', or choose different
- paths:
-
- STRPCOMA D:\QLCD\MMAD\FILESX.001 D:\TEMP\FILESX.001
-
- When you want to strip commas from all FILES.BBS in the one
- directory, use different Syntax:
-
- STRPCOMA D:\QLCD\MMAD\*.* D:\TEMP (without '\' at the end!)
-
- Use different in/out paths only. Allways check the new out files,
- then replace old. You never know. ;-)
-
- When using CommaSTRIPER in multi-file mode, it can't strip files
- with extensions:
-
- EXE, COM, SYS, BAT, ZIP, ARJ, RAR, LHA, DLL, PIF, PRG.
-
- * New QLCD.CFG file
- When upgrading from v1.11 to v1.2b, cut line 13 from old
- QLCD.CFG and add this line as line 13:
-
- 56 # User Sec.Lev. for File Req. Option
-
- Number '56' represents User Security Level required for the Off-Line
- File Request option. If user level is lower, he can't enter
- this option. (See included QLCD.CFG in QLCD12A.ZIP).
-
- * Added new ANSI screen: FILEREQ.ANS
- You must place this file in the QLCD directory. If not, QLCD
- reports an Error, but continues to work. Error is visible both on local
- and remote display.
-
- * Changed ANSI screen: QLCDMAIN.ANS
- If upgrading from v1.11 to v.12a, replace old QLCDMAIN.ANS file
- with new. Differences between old and new screen are in new option
- (Off-Line File Request) and a few cosmetic fixes.
-
- * Added new help file: OFFLIN.HLP
- If upgrading from v1.11 to v.12a, place this help file in QLCD
- directory.
-
- * Added support for configuring HD to work under QLCD.
- See instructions.
-
- * Added: SEND MESSAGE TO SYSOP
- It is QLCD's fully-automated process. When User make Request
- from any off-line CD, QLCD sends message to SysOp name. Please,
- edit sample POST2SYS.CFG to suit your needing.
-
- * Updated QLCD.DOC file.
-

- Parts marked with an asterisk (*) are very IMPORTANT.
-
- - QLCD-Rom Door v1.3 is no more limited to 42 CD-disks. Now, it
- supports up to 999 CD-disks. Also, the limit of 6 CD-drives
- is now limited only by DOS or your hardware.
-
- - Improved selection of CD-disks available on the system. When the
- list of available disks reaches the end, and <End of List> appears
- on the screen, simply press enter to get the list from the begining.
-
- - Improved selection of directories from selected CD-disk. When
- list of directories reaches the end, and <End of List> appears
- on the screen, simply press enter to get list from the begining.
-
- - Major improvements in the selection of CD-disks and directories also
- implemented in Off-Line File Request option.
-
- - Changed ANSI screen: CDLIST.ANS
-
- * When upgrading QLCD-Rom Door v1.2b to v1.3, simply replace old
- QLCD12B.EXE with QLCD13.EXE, and CDLIST.ANS with new file.
-
- There is no bug-reports or bug detected in v1.2b
-
- - New, improved version of Off-Line File Request Server, v1.1
- Fixed minor bug in module PROCESS.CD
- Fixed minor bug in module PROCESS.USER.SUB
-
- Start QFRS110.EXE only from QLCD directory:
- QFRS110 _cfg_file_ (_cfg_file_ is DOOR.CFG or any DOORxx.CFG)
- If you want a mouse operation, mouse driver must be loaded first.
-
- QLCD110 uses or creates:
-
- DOORxx.CFG, QLCD.CFG, USEROFRL.DAT, *.OLR, *.OK, WAITREQF.DAT,
- USERBASE.DAT, MUOL.LOK, REQ_CDS.DAT, WAITREQF.NEW files.
-
- Some of listed files are generated during file processing and
- deleted at the end. The only one, which stays 'alive' and
- increases in size is USERBASE.DAT file.
-
- QFRS works also on LAN. You may process requested files
- from network station (Node-2) while Node-1 is active.
-
- As a ShareWare products, in their unregistered form, File Server
- and QLCD-Rom Door are not crippled in any way, and if you REGISTER
- QLCD-Rom Door, you also become registered user of QFRS.
- In case of unavailable Help options, the only reason is - help is
- not writen yet, IMHO, you will not need it. :)
-
- * When upgrading QFRS v1.0 to v1.1 simply replace old QLCD_FRS.EXE
- with QFRS110.EXE.
-
- * Updated QLCD13.DOC file.
-
-
- 28. News in QLCD v1.4 & upgrading notes (*):
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
- Parts marked with an asterisk (*) are very IMPORTANT.
-
- - Fixed major bug in module Download only when using COM port 2.
- In early versions of QLCD-Rom Door this bug was not detected.
- I suppose this bug was created while optimizing the source of v1.11.
-
- - Added <D>own option in <V>iew suboption. Now, user may download
- tagged files also from this suboption.
-
- - Added <D>own option as a question, in Main Menu. Every time when
- user exits from option "Choose Dir, Tag & DownLoad" and list of
- tagged files still exists, (this means that files was tagged, but
- download was not performed), he may download tagged files also
- from Main Menu.
-
- - After DL, user may continue tagging files, if:
-
- / it is no End of List
- / remaining time is bigger than users daily time
-
- - QLCD was tested under OS/2(tm) operating system. It works in the
- same way as under DOS(tm). I hope to hear more echo from my
- OS/2(tm) beta tester :)
-
- - Added FBCONV.EXE - New QLCD-Rom Door Utility
-
- A few words about format of FILES.BBS files and converting in
- QLCD-Rom Door format...
-
- Today, we have a large production of CD-disks. Many of these CDs are
- prepared for use under QLCD-Rom Door, or other bbs software, but some
- of them are not. In effort to minimize and optimize QLCD code,
- part of it, one for the support of different types of FILES.BBS files was
- cut out. QLCD-Rom Door is a bit smaller, faster (v1.4), and we have a new
- utility, called FBCONV.EXE which converts single & multi-line description
- FILES.BBS for use with the QLCD-Rom Door.
-
- Also, it filters pipe-line char ('|') from FILES.BBS, empty lines,
- commas ('1,234,567') from file size and area-headers.
- FBCONV recognizes your messy-FILES.BBS and fits it for use with
- QLCD-Rom Door.
-
- Convention: [file_name] starts at col.: 1, lenght: 12, space: 2 chr.
- [file_size] ..............: 15, ......: 7, .....: 2 chr.
- [file_date] ..............: 24, ......: 8, .....: 2 chr.
- [file_desc] ..............: 34, ......: 46 characters.
-
- Syntax: FBCONV infile outfile (Single file processing)
- Syntax: FBCONV D:\CD\MGAM\*.* D:\TEST (Multi file proc.: use different
- path !)
-
- FBCONV.EXE is a replacement for an old STRPCOMA.EXE utility.
-
- * When upgrading QLCD-Rom Door v1.3 to v1.4, simply replace the old
- QLCD13.EXE with the new QLCD14.EXE and delete the old STRPCOMA.EXE
-
- * Convert all of yours FILES.BBS if you want your QLCD to work
- smoothly.
-
- * Updated QLCD14.DOC file.
-
-
- 29. News in QLCD v1.5 & upgrading notes (*):
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
- Parts marked with an asterisk (*) are very IMPORTANT.
-
- - Fixed minor bug in module CHECK.ONLINE.CD (if handling more than
- 2 CD-drives)
-
- - Improved Last 10 Callers routine, changed database type.
-
- - Added <B>ack suboption, changed FILEDESC.ANS, FILEREQ.ANS
- Now, when user browsing CD database, he can go one or more
- screens back. This ability is also available when browsing
- CD database from Off-Line File Request option.
-
- - Added <F>ast or <S>tandard FREQ suboption
- Now, user may decide between Standard FREQ, which include
- browsing, tagging etc, and Fast FREQ which offers more efficient
- way of FREQ. If this suboption is choosed, user must know
- only the name of file for FREQ. No more browsing, tagging etc.
-
- - Added MAX2QLCD.EXE - New QLCD-Rom Door Utility
- Converts Maximus-style (without file size and date) FILES.BBS an
- fits it for using with QLCD-Rom Door. MAX2QLCD supports
- multi-line descriptions, not long-line file descriptions. File
- description, which is longer than 45 characters, (starting with
- col. 34 to col. 79), will be cutted to 45 characters length.
-
- Convention: [file_name] starts at col.: 1, length: 12, space: 2 chr.
- [file_size] ..............: 15, ......: 7, .....: 2 chr.
- [file_date] ..............: 24, ......: 8, .....: 2 chr.
- [file_desc] ..............: 34, ......: 45 characters.
-
- Syntax: MAX2QLCD zip_path [path]infile [path]outfile
- (Single FILES.BBS processing only.)
- MAX2QLCD E:\GAMES C:\LIST\FILES.BBS D:\NEWLIST\FILES.XXX
-
- Use only different infile and outfile names, or different paths.
-
- * When upgrading QLCD-Rom Door v1.4 to v1.5, simply replace the old
- files with the new one:
-
- - QLCD14.EXE with the new QLCD14.EXE
- - FILEDESC.ANS with the new FILEDESC.ANS
- - FILEREQ.ANS with the new FILEREQ.ANS
-
- * If needed, convert all of yours FILES.BBS with FBCONV utility, if
- you want your QLCD to work smoothly.
-
- * From QLCD Beta testing team:
- - Using QLCD with Adept/2
- - Using QLCD with Maximus/2
-
- * Updated QLCD15.DOC file.
-
-
- 30. News in QLCD v1.53 & upgrading notes (*):
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
- Parts marked with an asterisk (*) are very IMPORTANT.
-
- * Added new line in QLCD.CFG
-
- (line 14):
- 1 # 1 = Check On-Line CDs, 0 = Don't !
-
- From version 1.53, you may choose the way of CDLIST.CFG handling.
- Default is Checking On-Line CDs and Auto Updating of CDLIST.CFG
- (QLCD.CFG, line 14 = 1). If you decide to use manually configured
- CDLIST.CFG (line 14 = 0), you must use drive letter instead '#'
- and 'DL' instead 'RL' if CD is on-line.
-
- This may be useful if you are lucky owner of CD-Changer ;-)
-
- - Improved CDLIST.CFG handling in multi-node operation, if 'Check
- On-Line CDs = 1' (QLCD.CFG, line14).
- Now, QLCD check NodeDir (\NODE01, \NODE02 etc.) for an old copy of
- CDLIST.CFG, delete it, make a new copy of CDLIST.CFG, and update it.
- If system crashed because of any reason (do you have UPS ?) while
- CDLIST.CFG updating process, there will be no problem when QLCD
- starts again.
-
- - Improved file handling in MAX2QLCD.EXE - New MAX2QL02.EXE
-
- * Updated QLCD153.DOC file.
-
- * When upgrading QLCD-Rom Door v1.5 to v1.53, simply replace the old
- files with the new one:
-
- - QLCD15.EXE with the new QLCD153.EXE
- - MAX2QLCD.EXE with the new MAX2QL02.EXE
- - Add line 14 to QLCD.CFG
-
-
- Expected in a new version:
- --------------------------
- - QLCD-Rom Door Installer.
-
-
-
- 31. From QLCD Beta testing team
- -------------------------------
-
- Using QLCD with Adept/2 (thanks to Andrej Broz)
- -----------------------
-
- First you need Ray Gwinn's SIO comm drivers for OS/2.
- These can be downloaded or ftp'ed from various sources
- or you will be able to find them on the Adept Support BBS.
-
- After you install them, you need to make sure that the
- undocumented '-' feature is used. Here's what the appropriate
- lines in your config.sys should look like:
-
- REM DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\COM.SYS
- REM DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCOM.SYS
- REM ......... Ray Gwinn's SIO Com drivers ........
- DEVICE=C:\SIO\SIO.SYS (1, 3F8, 4,-)
- DEVICE=C:\SIO\VSIO.SYS
- DEVICE=C:\SIO\VX00.SYS
-
- Here, OS/2's original com drivers have been commented out and
- the SIO drivers are used with the '-' switch. In this example,
- only COM1 is setup. Consult the SIO documentation for more
- information on setting up these drivers for your system.
-
- Adept/2 is native PM sw, which starts:
-
- (QLCD.BAT)
- ECHO OFF
- CD\DOORS\QLCD
- DEL DOOR.SYS
- COPY D:\ADEPT\SYSTEM\LINE%1\DOOR.SYS
- QLCD14.EXE DOOR0%1.CFG DOORSYS LOCKED:%2
- DEL DOOR.SYS ^
- CD\ADEPT !
- !
- DOORxx.CFG for every node
-
-
- Using QLCD with Maximus/2 (thanks to Branko Radojevic)
- -------------------------
- If you wish to use QLCD CD DOOR with Maximus native OS/2 BBS, be
- aware of few trick - problems :
-
- 1. You MUST use SIO communication drivers from Ray Gwinn
- (ray@gwinn.com).
-
- 2. In SIO driver command line add '-' at the end, so that command
- now looks like this :
-
- DEVICE=C:\SIO\SIO.SYS (COM2,57600,,,-) (COM3:38400,3E8,IRQ7,-)
-
- With this parameter you tell SIO to pass control over COM port to
- DOS task.
-
- 3. Make some changes in QLCD.MEC :
-
- You must substitute following line :
-
- [write]COM%p with [if task]1 [write]COM3
- [if task]2 [write]COM2
-
- and so on for every node you have (this example is for two
- node setup, task 1 using com3, and task 2 using com2).
-
- This is needed because in Maximus for OS/2 %p command gives
- you COM handle instead of COM port, but the QLCD does not
- understand COM handles, because it's DOS door. You may get COM
- handle 5 for COM port 3, this can confuse QLCD and other DOS
- doors in OS/2 DOS BOX. So the solution is to hard code it to
- your QLCD.MEC file whitch creates DOOR.SYS.
-
-
- 32. A few words at the end
- --------------------------
- QLCD works also as a multi-node door. If it detects more than 1 node,
- it will create subdirs called "\NODE01" and "\NODE02" (etc.). QLCD was
- tested on 2-Node system, and no problems was detected. It will
- perhaps work the same way on your board.
-
- QLCD seems to be also DV-aware. Try it.
-
- If anyone gets an idea how to improve QLCD or update this DOC file
- (with which I agree) please, send updated DOC as ZIP file (Mailer is
- 24h/day active) on G-Box, 2:381/102@Fidonet or via Internet:
- ivan.drzanic@g-box.fido.hr
-
- New versions are expected.
-
- Peace for Croatia!
