- This files contains information on the new features included in
- version 2.01 of NETWORK QUOTABLES. Please read the full
- documentation, QUOTES.DOC, for a full explaination of how each
- new feature works.
-
- Thanks to Pete Carstensen for his helpful suggestions and
- comments and to all the other users who have contributed quotes.
-
- New and Improved:
-
- Command Line Parameters
-
- /?, /H or ? - Displays help screen listing all of the
- command line switches
-
- /F - allows the user to bypass the date check of the
- QUOTE.DBF file and force the program to load.
-
- /T#S - where # is time specified in seconds, allows the user
- to set the time that NETWORK QUOTABLES is active, assuming
- the ESCape key is not pressed first. The default is 0,
- which keeps the program active forever.
-
- /S#M - where # is time specified in seconds, allows the
- program to be loaded as a non-TSR screen saver. The screen
- moves vertically every # seconds.
-
- /R - generates a new random quote every time the program is
- run. Ignores the fact that the quote may have been
- displayed before. If this parameter is used, each network
- user will see a different quote.
-
- Parameters can be used in combination with each other. Do
- not separate them with spaces or other delimiters.
-
- EXAMPLES:
-
- QUOTES /F
- Will ignore the date stored in QUOTE.DBF and will
- automatically load the program.
-
- QUOTES /T300S
- Keeps the program active for 300 seconds (5 minutes).
-
- QUOTES /R
- Picks a new quote each time the program is run.
-
- QUOTES /S20M
- Runs the program as a screen saver that moves every 20
- seconds.
-
- QUOTES /F/T60S/R
- Forces the program to run, keeps the quote displayed for 60
- seconds and picks a new random quote.
- QUOTE.DBF File Location
-
- A file location feature has been added so that the
- administrator can determine where the QUOTE.DBF file is
- located. ***Do not*** use the program directory as the
- location of this file or set the drive to the program drive
- and leave the directory blank. A file with the same name
- is located in the program directory and conflicts will
- arise.
-
- User Added Quotes
-
- A USERADD field has been added to the quotes database. When
- a user adds a quote to the database, the field is filled
- with a "T". This allows the user to distinguish the
- supplied quotes from their own.
-
- Browse
-
- The Browse feature has had several options added to it. You
- can now browse the database based on a search of up to seven
- words using AND and OR logic. An Edit Box has been added so
- that the quote can be seen as it will be displayed. A Quick
- search feature has been added so that you can quickly find
- quotes based on the first 15 characters.
-
- Select Quotes
-
- Select Quotes has been changed so that you have the option
- to have the selection take effect immediately or tomorrow.
-
- Printing
-
- Printing has also been greatly enhanced. You can print all
- quotes, quotes tagged as used, user added quotes, or by
- search criteria. Support for LPT1, LPT2, LPT3 and printing
- to file are now supported. Quotes can be printed in either
- portrait or landscape. Portrait is designed to print on
- most dot-matrix and laser printers. Landscape requires an
- HP Laserjet compatible printer. The page length and the top
- margin can now be changed.
-
- General
-
- Added single key deletion of administrator message.
-
- Completely rewrote all network record and file locking,
- error capture and recovery routines.
-
- General cleanup. Cleaned up all of the scroll bar menus and
- screens. Tried for consistency.
-
- Optimized and cleaned up code.
-
- Fixes:
-
- When printing Quotes, sporadically did not print used flag.
-
- The message database was created without placing a record in
- it. This caused any message that was entered not to be
- saved.
-
- Packing the database corrupted the indexes.
-
- Could not change the menu highlight color when editing the
- screen colors.
-
- A user has reported sporadic problems (it ran on some
- machines and not others) running Network Quotables with QEMM
- in Stealth mode. When stealth mode was removed everything
- ran fine. I tested the program with QEMM and EMM386 on
- several machines and have had no problems.
-
-
- Notes:
-
- Printing with Shift-F7 still can only print to LPT1.
-
- Only one person should print to the Capture.prn file at a
- time. The file is wiped out the next time a print to file
- is performed.
-
- If /T and /S are specified together, the screen saver will
- take precedence.
