  14. earlier, BE SURE to compile and run this (new) version of netinit.c, which
  15. is included.  It is different than previous versions.  If you do not compile
  16. and run it, there is a VERY GOOD chance info in your user.lst file will be
  17. corrupted, and your system may hang.

  21. About registering the WWIVnet software:

  23. NOTE: If you have already registered WWIV and have a WWIV registration
  24. number, read no further.  You can continue using the WWIVnet software as
  25. you have before.  The changes described below affects only those sysops who
  26. have NOT registered WWIV.

  29. In the past, WWIV BBS and WWIVnet software has been distributed freely to
  30. everyone for evaluation, and will continue to be.
  31.  
  32. Starting with net28, however, the net software registration is much like the
  33. WWIV software itself.
  34.  
  35. The WWIV and WWIVnet software is distributed as shareware, which means
  36. (in this case) that you can use the WWIV and WWIVnet software for up to
  37. two months before deciding whether or not to register WWIV.  If, at the
  38. end of the two month period, you decide to register WWIV, please see the
  39. 'read.me' file in the WWIV4xx.ZIP file for information on how to register.
  40. If at the end of two months you decide NOT to register WWIV (and hence
  41. not use WWIV software for your BBS), you must stop using the WWIV BBS
  42. software.  You must also discontinue using the WWIVnet software, if you are
  43. using it.

  45. If/when you register WWIV (and receive a WWIV registration number), you
  46. have also registered the WWIVnet software, and may use the WWIV and
  47. WWIVnet software on your system as you wish -- as a standalone BBS, in
  48. WWIVnet, or in a private network.

  50. If you are running a BBS that is in no way based on WWIV software, but
  51. that uses the WWIVnet software, then a similar registration procedure
  52. applies.  You can use the WWIVnet software for a two month trial period.
  53. If you decide to continue using the WWIVnet software after the two month
  54. trial period, then you must register the WWIVnet software for $20.  If
  55. you do not register the WWIVnet software at the end of the two month
  56. trial period, you must stop using the WWIVnet software.

  58. Thus, there are two ways you can legally continue to use the WWIVnet
  59. software after the two month trial period.  Either register WWIV, or (if
  60. you are running BBS software that is in no way based on WWIV software),
  61. register the WWIVnet software for $20.

  64. and wish to use the WWIVnet software, please use the form 'netreg.frm'
