- MT-matrix has been packaged and is being distributed as a (Simulated Dos)
- Login Shell for PCBoard v15.0 However the look and feel of the Dos prompt
- can easily be changed or modified to be whatever the sysop would like. It
- is configurable via <external Setup files>. MT-Matrix can do many things
- for your system prior to even letting a caller waist precious time on your
- lines!

- └══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════┘
-
- 08-18-93 What's NEW with MT-Matrix (v1.20)
- -------------------------------------------
-
- - NEW (MATRIX.CNF) option config (LINE #23) Matrix User Name - Min Lenght
- A User name can vary in lenghts. For example on most boards callers
- would have both a first and a last name. MT-Matrix previously expected
- callers to log on with a name with 4 letters or more <ie. JOE DOE> however
- some sysops allow 3 letter only names, if this is the case then this
- configuration switch is now included in MT-Matrix for that purpose.
- See LINE 23 Of MATRIX.CNF FILE to configure your desired value to this
- option. <ie. 3 = Name must be a minimum of 3 letters in order to allow
- the caller access to matrix Feedback, Post, Check, Apply etc...
-
- - NEW (MATRIX.CNF) options config (LINE 24) = Save Feedback as either
- PCBOARD / or MATRIX. Feedback left at the matrix may now be instead
- be saved as a PCBOARD COMMENT "PRIVATE COMMENT" TO "SYSOP". Previously
- any feedback entered at the matrix was saved in the matrix own Email
- facility <saved to the the file SYSOP.MSG file>. Now in addition to
- allowing the old method of saving feedback, you may choose to have
- matrix feedback to be saved as a PCBOARD Comment to Sysop Message instead.
- To do do fill line 24 of the MATRIX.CNF file with the words PCBOARD
- <ALL CAPS> pcboard - will not work! it must read PCBOARD. If this toggle
- switch option is enabled/configured as PCBOARD then MT-Matrix will save
- feedback at Matrix into a PCBOARD Main Board COMMENT to the SYSOP, this
- method is recommended if you do not login to the BBS via the matrix, but
- rather login using the PCBoard Call waiting screen options "Sysop - Busy"
- or "Sysop - Not Busy". Loggin into the system in the manner also skips
- the matrix and any feedback mail which you might've had waiting, therefore
- if you prefer to use the above method of loggin into the system then
- the setting PCBOARD is recommended since feedback mail will be saved
- as PCBoard comments. NOTE that you should still log into the matrix
- occasionally and check the PUBLIC msgs etc... Those cannot <nor any
- intentions are being made> be saved as pcboard email posts.
-
- - A new command <QUIT> has been added to any additional matrix modules.
- For example drive d: module will now have a QUIT command. So does the
- sysop maintenance module. I found this command to be necessary if
- you are running mt-matrix as a menu system instead of the dos dir simulated
- directory/menu. The problem arrised when any module drives <ie. D:>
- was for say called MORE, if this module was called MORE then the matrix
- C: command to access it would of course be MORE <insted of D:>. The
- problem arrised when no other alternatives would be offered to return
- to the intial drive module <or menu> such as drive c: unless you used
- the dos simulated command of c: <which doesn't make much sense in a
- menu system> So now with the QUIT command, sysops which run the matrix
- as a menu system, may make drive D: say a submenu and then just add the
- QUIT command to drive's d: menu. The QUIT command will return the caller
- back to drive C: <or whatever you call it> Confusing??? :) Try it from
- drive d: <or whatever you call it in case it's a submenu name> You will
- see it's purpose...
-
- - NEW <to /Standard version> PROMPTS.CNF File which controls most prompts
- and messages which MT-Matrix display to a caller. <To be exact there are
- a total of 92 prompts and msgs which you may modify to your liking. SEE
- The FILE PROMPTS.CNF file for More Info.
-
-
- - MT-Matrix will now properly read the SYSOP PAGE START TIME and END TIME
- from PCBoard. This option was ignored in the previous releases. You
- may set your Page Start time (Allow to page start time) and Page End time
- from with PCBsetup! To set the start/end paging hours load PCBSETUP
- and choose option; G Configuration Options, then choose option; F Limits
- from within this setup option you can set the Allow Sysop Page Start Time,
- and the Allow Sysop Page Stop Time to your preferences. NOTE that the
- matrix page may also be completely disabled, just edit the COMMANDS.CNF
- file and change the PAGE and CHAT option lines to page and chat <lower
- case> and that will disable the matrix page commands (You may also place
- a 0 in the place of the commands to disable them).
-
- - The SYSOP maintenance module received a few a changes with this release,
- many have been cosmetic (for example); many of you seemed to have
- problems reading the features in the Menu, to avoid that the menu
- has been redesigned and also the features NO LONGER have the same Menu
- options Numbers! All the commands are still in there, but they
- just have re-reorganized differently by matter of priority on what you
- might do at the matrix, <ie View Matrix Call logs> is now option
- 1 because it's considered more important then reading for public mail
- etc.. Also in the previous release the SINGLE NODE SYSTEM VIEW/DELETE
- Matrix CALL Logs didn't work properly, this version should fix that as
- well as some other minor problems which single node systems were
- experiencing.
-
- - Many other minor improvements and fixes, specially cosmetically.
-
- - Starting with this version <v1.12> detailed description of product
- development/addition/fixes etc... will instead be documented in the
- file WHATSNEW.DOC --> [This File]
-
- - The DEDUCT TIME at Matrix end <PCBoard Start> feature, was causing a
- problem for new callers. I'll explain, MT-Matrix allows via the
- MATRIX.CNF to add time at matrix login "recommended so the caller does
- not see the WARNING automatic disconnect in 3 mins" message. Whatever
- time is ADDED at Matrix login is also deducted at Matrix logoff, which
- is fine, but for new callers it might <or might not> cause a problem,
- a situation that this could cause be a problem is when for example the
- caller browses around the system and say reads the NEWS, INFO, HELP
- etc.. files, now the caller uses apply, if the caller is found in the
- VIP file or has the correct Sign on Key ID Password then MT-Matrix will
- allow the caller into PCBoard as new user, well at this time the matrix
- will also deduct any time which was issued to the caller at matrix login
- and say if you had awarded 10 mins to the caller at login, and the caller
- spend 10 mins online + an extra 3 mins <which is automatically given to
- each and every caller upon matrix login> then at the end of the apply
- feature they would be logged off, and pcboard would return the message
- "Time Limit exceeded". To avoid this mt-matrix will no longer deduct
- time at matrix end when using the apply command *ONLY*. Note that this
- is the only command which time will now NOT be deducted at logoff, this
- is to avoid any problems with new callers being logged off after providing
- correct info the apply command.
-
-
- 08-02-93 What's NEW with MT-Matrix (v1.10) (SEE ALSO HISTORY.DOC)
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- - Many additions have been made to this version. There is now much better
- sysop features/support as well. A whole new sysop maintenance module is
- included USE the command SYSOP at the matrix prompt to load the module.
- From within this module you may check you current Matrix configuration,
- View or Delete the Matrix Call log files, View or Delete the Public and
- Sysop feedback Msg files, Check the Sysop Feedback or Public Msg files
- for new mail, and more, all without dropping to dos.
-
- - MT-Matrix now allows even more adaptability by the sysop. New with this
- version is a PPE Laucher, which allows any PPE program to become a matrix
- command. This allows the sysop to configure or make the matrix anything
- or any way they like. An example is if you are satisfied with a particular
- default matrix command, then you can make your own, and simply add the
- external ppe as a matrix command. SEE THE FILE PPE.CNF for more info.
-
- - MT-Matrix now properly creates CALL LOG FILES (NODE1.LOG, NODE2.LOG etc.)
- Everything which happens in the matrix is now recorded to the NODE? Log
- files. Matrix CALL Log files can be Viewed / Deleted right from the
- matrix (LOAD SYSOP MAINTENANCE MODULE) from within this module you may
- also Read/Delete Feedback Msgs, Read/Delete Public Msgs, View/Delete
- Call Log files. Also you may view ALL matrix Passwords which are
- currently configured, as well as ALL other configuration options, without
- even exiting to dos.
-
- - MT-Matrix now allows Drive C: / D: / E: specifications to be defined by
- the sysop! In other words if you chose to call drive C:, D: instead
- then using dir D: or cd d: would work as well. The CD D: is supported
- because if you named your additional drives a directory instead of a
- drive then all commands are interactive to support your configuration,
- in other words if you decided to name a drive something other then
- drive c: for example \BBS\UTIL then using the commands cd \bbs\util
- would take you to that module, same thing with other matrix commands
- such as DIR \BBS\UTIL would also work, and so would DIR C:\BBS\UTIL
- etc.. JUST remember that if you name your drives something else then
- you should also adjust that drive's module prompt to match whatever
- you are calling the extra drives, or directory.
-
- - A slight problem existed with the previous ADD Time to Matrix Login. The
- problem really was that if a caller entered the matrix any more then one
- time during a session, the online time would of course <each time the
- matrix was loaded> be incremented by whatever you decided in the Matrix.CNF
- to reward the caller. To accomodate these situations MT-Matrix will now
- DEDUCT whatever time it was ADDED to the caller upon PCBoard Start <Matrix
- END>. So now it does not matter on how much time you reward callers at
- matrix login since that time is taken back when they exit the matrix!
- NOTE! It is recommended that you add some time at login, this is so that
- callers upon loading on to your system (matrix) will not be bogged with the;
- "Warning automatic disconnect in (3) minutes" messages which pcboard will
- display to the caller.
-
- NOTE! the ADD Time to Callers which use either FEEDBACK or POST a public
- Msg CNF options are not discounted for at matrix END! The reasons for
- that is because there is no easy way for MT-Matrix to know which callers
- used the POST or FEEDBACK commands and which ones didn't. So if you ADD
- time to callers for using these 2 functions remember that UNLIKE the ADD
- time at Matrix Login, these will not be Discounted at Logoff.
-
- - Number of MAX lines allowed for MSG Entry in both the POST Public Msg and
- SEND FEEDBACK to Sysops are configurable/definable via this setup option.
- In other words a value here of 99 equals a total max of 99 lines allowed
- for public msg entry or feedback to sysops msg entry. Some sysops find it
- that allowing too many lines in the Msg Editors will encourage callers to
- leave HUGE messages at the matrix without being necessary <Some sysops DO
- NOT feel this way however> in either case this setting can now be used so
- you specify the MAX number of allowed lines in the MSG editors per your
- preference. NOTE! A value higher of 99 lines is not recommended, if you
- load the message editor you will notice that the value set here is displayed
- to the caller when using the Editors, a 3 or 4 digits value number in this
- field will work fine, but however it will not look <cosmetically> as good.
- Also I don't think you would ever want to allow a caller at matrix to enter
- a 1000 line message neither :)
-
- - APLLY.VIP file added. This file can be anywhere or named anything you would
- like, just as long as the correct locations and names are specified in this
- line. The APPLY VIP file holds information on Names with Apply VIP access.
- In other words Matrix will check this file each time a NEW Caller applies, if
- the callers name matches any entry within this file then NEW USER PASSWORD
- <if enabled> will be skipped and the file NEWVIP (for MONO) / NEWVIPG (for
- ANSI) / NEWVIPR (for RIP) will be displayed to the caller, following the
- display of the above file the caller will be shown the Matrix NEWUSER file,
- then taken to the PCBoard sign on screen (Enter Your First Name). NOTE that
- the name the caller uses at Matrix Apply will automatically be inserted in
- the PCBoard sign in prompt <Enter your first name>!
-
- The VIP file has few rules however NOTE THE FOLLOWING; The first entry of the
- file should be a number which equals the total users/names in the listing.
- <ie if you have 5 names in the list then the first line of this file should
- read a numeral 5> Each time you add a new name to the VIP List you MUST
- increase this number so the matrix can appropriately find their Names in the
- VIP <if they are indeed listed in the APPLY VIP file>.

- ____________
-
-
- The following commands are Smart Commands! In other words MT-Matrix
- is responsive to your configuration, if you examine the CNF files
- included with this product you will find entries where you can specify
- a DRIVE NAME or possibly a DIRECTORY an example is in the Matrix.CNF
- file an entry exists where it asks what to call your DRIVE C:, the
- default in this field is C: <which also means that your prompt should
- match but only for cosmetic reasons, your prompt is merely what the
- caller sees> So back to the above example where drive C: is the
- drive or dir *or also a submenu name* if you are not using the matrix
- to simulate the dos structure, now if you changed the entry from C:
- to something like \UTIL, then the commands DIR \UTIL, DIR C:\UTIL,
- CD \UTIL, CD\UTIL, CD \UTIL, CD C:\UTIL etc... etc... etc... will work
- as you have it configured! The default commands provided with this
- product have the drive identifier in the matrix.CNF file set up as C:

- provided configuration.

- <COMMENT> <FEEDBAK>
-
- The above are all the same as the {sysop defined} FEEDBACK command. They
- have been built in, because we always wish to allow FEEDBACK from a caller
- so therefore they are there just for convinience, in case the caller
- overlooked in your MENU Dir the proper command, or by mistake mispelled
- the word FEEDBACK and entered FEEDBAK instead the command would still work
- and so would COMMENT.
-

-
- The FORMAT command will HANGUP on the Caller! BUT first it will display
- <if found in matrix path> the file -> FORMAT (for MONO) / FORMATG (for ANSI)
- or FORMATR (for RIP), if these files exist they will be displayed to the
- caller, and followed by that Matrix would hangup and record it to the
- matrix call log. Things here can get interesting, YOU already know that
- the file FORMAT is displayed to the caller, so here you could maybe write
- a PPE which simulated a DOS FORMAT or something similar, and then just
- use the FORMAT / FORMATG or FORMATR files to load your creation PPE! as
- in !d:\pcb\matrix\format.ppe, place a line similar to this in the this file
- and then the caller would see whatever your PPE was programmed to do. ALL
- display files <and others> within MT-Matrix have this capability, which
- makes this product as big as the sysops imagination, as almost any procedure
- in the matrix can be livened up!
-

- There is a short version of this command VER, they both do the same.
-
- <OTHERS>
-
- Most other commands are self explanatory, and as mentioned previously they
- are there to just amuze the caller, most will only display a message such
- as "Command cannot be used" would is diplayed to callers which use the DEL

- will result in a message similar to the following;
- "(whatever) Invalid command or filename"

- │ Section 5.0: Installation │
- └══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════┘
-
- ALL THE STEPS LISTED IN THIS DOCUMENT REGARDING INSTALLATION ASSUME YOU
- HAVE A COPY OF PCBOARD V15.0 (OR ABOVE) ALREADY CONFIGURED AND RUNNING!
-
-
- Unzip the contents of MT-MTX12.ZIP into it's own directory. Suggested
- path is -> DRIVE:\PCB\PPE\MATRIX but you can place it anywhere you
- you would like, just as long as the correct path and PPE names are
- assigned within PCBoard <Next Step>
-
- Adding this program to PCBoard is simple. The easiest way is to just
- edit your PCBoard WELCOME and WELCOMEG screens and on the very first
- line place a call to this PPE file. Standard PCBoard 15.0 PPE Call:
-
- !d:\pcb\ppl\matrix\matrix.ppe
-
- Place the line above in your WELCOMEG and WELCOME Files. Be sure to
- indicate Your correct path> After All PCBoard must find the PPE in
- order to execute it!
-
- Now edit your !! MATRIX !! - WELCOME or <WELCOMEG> files to
- reflect your original PCBoard WELCOME and WELCOMEG. These have
- been included with the matrix and are here so you will not loose
- your current PCBoard Welcome Screens. After all we used up the
- PCBoard welcome screens to load the matrix.
-
- That's about it, if you have provided the standard PCBoard PPE call to
- the MATRIX.PPE in your your PCBoard WELCOME/WELCOMEG screens the Matrix
- should now be ready to run by your callers. <more on this topic>
-
- A Sample of what your *PCBoard* WELCOME or WELCOMEG PCBoard Screens should
- look like is included below (BE SURE that the call to the PPE ! is placed
- on Columm 1 or the file. PCBoard WELCOME and WELCOMEG screens are by
- default stored in the directory \PCB\GEN;
-
- !D:\PCB\PPE\MATRIX\MATRIX.PPE
- |
- |Columm 1
-
-
- ┌══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════┐
- │ Section 5.1: Important installation notes │
- └══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════┘
-
- The reason behind us placing the Call to the PPE in the WELCOME file is
- simple! The Matrix MUST run before PCBoard <that is it's entire purpose>
- The PCBoard WELCOME and WELCOMEG files are the very first files which
- PCBoard will display the caller.
-
- A couple of problems may arrise by the fact that the command to load the
- matrix is in the WELCOME files. This is because PCBoard also allows a
- caller to SKIP the Welcome file by stacking the commands Y;Q;NS or N;Q;NS
- at the prompt "Do you want graphics (Enter)=no?" Y is for Yes to Ansi
- graphics, the Q is to SKIP the Welcome File, the NS is for No News File.
-
- So now if a caller answered N;Q or Y;Q PCBoard would SKIP displaying the
- WELCOME and the WELCOMEG screens to the caller and in this case he would
- also be taken directly to the PCBoard Login : First Name, Last, Password
- etc... And in the event he would miss the Matrix. <more>
-
- <more>
- To make sure your callers will see the matrix each and everytime you must
- use one of the following programs <which are included with this package>
-
-
- GRAFYN.PPE <MT-GRF11.ZIP> Replaces PCBoard Prompt #149 and will
- replace the PCBoard standard "Do you want graphics (Enter)=no?"
- with one which looks and acts just like it! But it will ignore
- the Q <if used by the user> which is the PCBoard option to Skip
- viewing the WELCOME or WELCOMEG screens. To use it is simple.
- Use MKPCBTXT.EXE to edit your PCBTEXT file, use F3 & then 149,
- You will now see the original entry for the Graphics y/n prompt,
- replace it with a call to this PPE, a sample is included here;
-
- !d:\pcb\ppl\matrix\grafyn.ppe
-
- That's it! If you run the GRAFYN.PPE to replace the graphics prompt
- from pcboard it will assure that your callers will not miss the matrix,
- even if they typed Y Q or N Q at the "Do you want graphics (Enter)=no?"
- prompt!
-
-
- If you are using some type of Auto Ansi Emulation Detection program
- 'such as GRAF-D.PPE' then it's recommended that you DISABLE the option
- for the caller to SKIP the PCBoard Welcome screens as well. This will
- insure that your callers will go into the matrix each and every
- time they login the system. A version of GRAF-D is included with this
- package which will do this for you <again in this case this PPE also
- ignores the Q to skip the welcome screen <if used by the caller>.
- This version is listed as GRAFD-D3.PPE.
-
-
- ┌══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════┐
- │ Section 5.2: Other options │
- └══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════┘
-
- You may also add the Matrix as a PCBoard Command. This is recommended
- specially if you are running the Deluxe version of MT-Matrix which have
- additional capabilities and you will want to allow callers in the bbs
- to go to the matrix anytime from PCBoard.
-
- To add the Matrix as a PCBoard command is very simple. Load PCBsetup
- and choose option [B] File Locations Once in this PCBsetup Submenu
- choose (once again) option [B] Configuration files. Scroll down until
- you see -> Name/Loc of Default CMD.LST File : D:\PCB\MAIN\CMD.LST
- Now use the F2 key to edit the CMD.LST file "NOTE that the location
- shown above is the default as supplied by PCBoard" Your location
- might be different you might also have individual CMD.LST files for
- different conferences, the above is assuming you have a standard
- PCBoard v15.0 setup. <next step>
-
-
- <more>
-
- Next will see a screen resembling the one below, just choose a
- name/command that you would like your callers to access the Matrix
- from within PCBoard. (Recommended choices are MATRIX) but you may
- name it whatever you want, just be sure that the path pointing to
- the MATRIX.PPE file is correct <after all PCBoard must find the PPE
- file in order to execute it!>
-
-
- File Locations
-
- Command Security PPE/MNU File -or- Keystroke Replacement
- ══════════════ ════════ ═══════════════════════════════════════
- 1) MATRIX 0 D:\PCB\PPE\MATRIX\MATRIX.PPE
- 2) SHELL 0 D:\PCB\PPE\MATRIX\MATRIX.PPE
-
-
- That's about it, if you added the above then Matrix should now be ready
- to run as a PCBoard command by your callers. ALSO NOTE THAT MT-Matrix
- can be ran directly from PCBoard without editing this file, the reason
- is simple, since we placed the call to the Matrix in the PCBoard WELCOME
- file, now each time a caller from within PCBoard uses the PCB command (I)
- for Initial Screen Re-Display, they will of course Load the matrix since
- the matrix is loaded via the PCBoard Welcome screens. <also see note below>
-
-
- <note>
-
- You may also wish to create a MORE features Sub-menu <use the Submenu
- features of PCBoard v15.0 In this MORE Sub-Menu you could make available
- all the PPE programs you have installed <After ALL placing ALL PPE cmds
- and files in your main menu can get confusing!>. Oh some other
- recommendations to place in your MORE features menu would be MATRIX [PPE]
- ONELINERS [PPE] a BBSLIST [PPE], a LOTTERY [PPE], etc..

-
- * Detailed Description of Matrix.Cnf Commands *
-
- Line 1: Your BBS name
-
- Line 2: Matrix Name or alternate BBS Name. Throughout the Matrix each
- Command/Feature is seemingly seperate and unique. Each command
- has it's own Title. You can choose on how these Titles look to
- the caller. Say you place MT-Matrix in this field then here's
- a sample of what the caller would see: "MT-Matrix ■ Help"
- If you make this line the same as line 1 <BBS NAME> then the
- caller would see instead: "Modern Technology ■ Help"
- It is recommended that you do not give the Matrix the name of
- your BBS, reason being is that it will confuse callers and say
- if they use the Help command, then they would think they were
- looking at Modern Technology's BBS Help commands, which is not
- right, since the caller is not yet in the BBS, he would merely
- be looking at the Matrix Help. A better choice in this field
- would maybe be something like; BBS Name Matrix. This way the
- caller when typing help would see : Modern Technology Matrix ■ Help.
- which makes a bit more sense :)
-
- Line 3: Sysop Name (Your name or whatever will be displayed to caller)
- for certain features such as "sending feedback to system managers"
-
- Line 4: Clear the Screen Upon Loading the Matrix? (0)=No (1)=Yes
- When a caller dials your system the first thing they see is the
- pcboard (r) notice message. Once that is displayed then the matrix
- loads, you have the choice at this time to just load the matrix
- and go right to the matrix prompt, or prior to doing so you can
- can have the screen clear AND then go to the matrix prompt.
-
- Line 5: Add Login Time? You have the option of giving the caller upon
- loging into the matrix more time! It is recommended that you add
- at least 2 or 3 mins extra, reason being is because it will stop
- PCBoard from displaying the message;
- "Warning Automatic Disconnect in 3 mins!"
- *NEW* (NOTE)!! Whatever you enter in this config line it will be deducted
- prior to the caller exiting to PCBoard. A good example is if you
- gave the caller 10 mins at matrix login, then upon Matrix EXIT the
- caller would be deducted the 10 mins, therefore creating an equal
- time balance which matches your PWRD file for the current caller
- at pcboard login.
-
- Line 6: Add Time for Feedback? You have the option of adding time to the
- callers session when they use the FEEDBACK (or COMMENT or SEND)
- to the sysops. It is recommended that you add at least a couple of
- minutes to this feature. Reason being is that if the caller uses
- a few minutes to look around the matrix, then decides they must
- leave you feedback, they could be cut off in the middle of writing
- you a message. By adding a bit of time to this feature will
- insure that your callers will not get cut off/logged off in the
- middle of writting you a comment.
-
- Line 7: Add Time for Post Public Msg? Self explanatory! Works the same
- as line 6 will but it will add time to a caller when posting a
- public message <IF POSTING PUBLIC MESSAGES IS ENABLED>
-
- Line 8: Your matrix prompt (whatever you want it to be)
- Note that you can make this prompt something like
- "Matrix Command?" Then just change your MENU files
- and instead of displaying the commands as listed now (like
- a DOS directory) just make it like a menu! All display
- files can be either in Color or Mono ie MENUG and MENU
- MENUG would be the graphics version and MENU non graphics.
-
- --------PASSWORD OPTIONS-----------
-
- Line 9: SYSTEM LOADER PASSWORD (protects your system loader)
- or the Matrix Commands "MODTECH and SYSTEM"
- (PASSWORDS SHOUL NOT EXCEED 12 CHARS)
- NOTE THAT VALIDATED CALLERS <existing callers> can simply
- use CHECK and if they are validated <existing callers> then
- the proper system password will shown to the caller.
- ALSO Please NOTE!!! That the system Password is also a
- Matrix Command! If used by the caller it will bypass
- the Enter system Password and directly load PCBoard.
-
- - TO DISABLE password protection to this COMMAND/FEATURE
- Enter a 0 "the numeral ZERO" in this line!
-
- *NEW* - Passwords DO NOT follow CaSe! In other words you may
- enter the passwords in this field in AnY CaSe, same
- at matrix prompt, they will work regardless of case.
-
-
- Line 10: NEW USER PASSWORD (0)=None (If a New User Key Id Password
- is assigned in this field then the caller must know it in
- order to use the APPLY command).
-
- *NEW* NOTE that MT-MATRIX now has an APPLY.VIP file as well, and
- if the callers Name is found in the APPLY.VIP then he will
- not be asked for a New User Password! Instead the file
- NEWVIP or (NEWVIPG for ANSI) and (NEWVIPR for RIP) <if they
- exist> will be displayed to the caller, followed with an
- exit to pcboard, which then will handle the new caller.
-
-
- Line 11: READSYS function/commands PASSWORD. (READS SYSOP FEEDBACK MSGS)
- Note that this command should be used only by the sysops as it
- will allow anyone (provided they know the password) to read The
- Feedback Msgs!
- (PASSWORD SHOULD NOT EXCEED 12 CHARS)
-
- - TO DISABLE Password Protection to this Feature Enter
- a 0 (Numeral ZERO) in this field! HOWEVER disabling
-
- - Disabling password protection to this feature is NOT
- RECOMMENDED as it would let anyone READ the Sysop
- Message File!!!! <This is assuming the caller knew the
- right command to access this feature!) All Feature/Commands
- may be changed to your liking by editing the COMMANDS.CNF file>
-
- *NEW* - Passwords DO NOT follow CaSe! In other words you may
- enter the passwords in this field in AnY CaSe, same
- at matrix prompt, they will work regardless of case.
-
-
- Line 12: READ PUBLIC Matrix Messages PASSWORD (Same features as above
- But it will protect Public Matrix Messages, these are messages
- which can be entered by anyone and to be read by anyone.
- (You can disable password protection by leaving this field blank)
- The message file is named: PUBLIC.MSG
- (PASSWORDS SHOULD NOT EXCEED 12 CHARS)
-
- - TO DISABLE Password Protection to this Feature Enter
- a 0 (Numeral ZERO) in this field!
-
- *NEW* - Passwords DO NOT follow CaSe! In other words you may
- enter the passwords in this field in AnY CaSe, same
- at matrix prompt, they will work regardless of case.
-
-
- Line 13: Sysop Maintenance Module Password. Sysop Maintenance can be
- *NEW* password protected (AND IS RECOMMENDED)!! From within this
- module you may READ MSG FILES / DELETE MSG FILES / VIEW MATRIX
- CALLER LOGS / DELETE MATRIX CALLER LOGS / VIEW MATRIX
- CONFIGURATIONS / VIEW ALL MATRIX PASSWORDS. A 0 in this field
- will disable password for the sysop module (NOT RECOMMEDED)
- to use the SYSOP MODULE USE THE COMMAND SYSOP AT THE C: OR
- D: <deluxe version> prompts.
-
- - Passwords DO NOT follow CaSe! In other words you may
- enter the passwords in this field in AnY CaSe, same
- at matrix prompt, they will work regardless of case.
-
-
- --------------END MATRIX PASSWORDS------------------
-
- Line 14: PAGE / CALL the sysop feature/Matrix Commands Off/On
- 0=off / 1=on --- NOTE that if you disable the Matrix Page
- then the caller will simply be notified that the sysop is not
- available and will be prompted if they wish to leave feedback
- instead.
-
- Line 15: The duration (in seconds) of the Sysop Page feature
- or how long (in seconds) the page bell will ring.
-
- Line 16: How fast the Sysop Page/Chat rings
- (Enter between 1 and 100) 1 is fastest
-
- Line 17: Show Loading matrix Message? Yes or No (0)=No (1)=Yes
- Just before the matrix loads to take control of system login
- procedures, you can have the message : Loading Matrix ...
- be displayed to the caller (so they know something is going on)
- However this message can be disabled bye answering 0 /No to to
- this config option. <NOTE that you may edit line 1 of the
- PROMPTS.CNF file and make this message whatever you would like!
- In other words you could instead make the message read "Dropping
- to Dos" or something else then the caller would see that instead
- provided the message is enabled via this setting.
-
- Line 18: Display Directory listing (MENU/MENUG) to callers when they
- login Matrix (0)=No, (1)=Yes Upon login the caller is taken
- directly into the matrix. You can automatically show them the
- dir listing (MENU or MENUG files) if you wish. This would happen
- only once per login and only the first time the caller comes into
- the matrix. Each time thereafter the caller will have to type
- DIR at the prompt to see the Dir listing (MENU or MENUG)
-
- Line 19: Color of Matrix Subfunctions Titles - Throughout the matrix
- each function is seperate from others ie. SEND Feedback to
- Sysops and POST Public messages are seperate features, each
- time a feature/command is excuted each feature displays to
- the caller it's own Title ie: "MT-Matrix ■ News" You can
- control the color of these titles by simply entering in this
- field the correct PCBoard color Macro code {ie @X07 = dark white}
-
- Line 20: Number of MAX lines allowed for MSG Entry in both the POST Public
- *NEW* Msg and SEND FEEDBACK to Sysops are configurable/definable via
- this setup option. In other words a value here of 99 equals a
- total max of 99 lines allowed for public msg entry or feedback
- to sysops msg entry. Some sysops find it that allowing too many
- lines in the Msg Editors will encourage callers to leave HUGE
- messages at the matrix without being necessary <Some sysops DO
- NOT feel this way however> in either case this setting can now
- be used so you specify the MAX number of allowed lines in the MSG
- editors per your preference. NOTE! A value higher of 99 lines
- is not recommended, if you load the message editor you will
- notice that the value set here is displayed to the caller when
- using the Editors, a 3 or 4 digits value number in this field
- will work fine, but however it will not look <cosmetically> as
- good. Also I don't think you would ever want to allow a caller
- at matrix to enter a 1000 line message neither :) Below is a
- sample of the above explanation;
-
- Enter Text - (Enter) Alone Ends - 70 chars per line (99 lines Max)
- (──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────)
- 1?
- As you can see with a value of 99 max lines the caller would get
- a perfect display <cosmetically> THIS IS basically the only
- reason on why a value higher then 99 is not recommended.
-
-
- Line 21: Drive\Path\Filename of APLLY VIP file. <IE D:\PCB\MATRIX\APPLY.VIP>
- *NEW* This file can be anywhere or anything you would like, just as long
- as the correct locations and names are specified in this line. The
- APPLY VIP file holds information on Names with Apply VIP access.
- In other words Matrix will check this file each time a NEW Caller
- applies, if the callers name matches any entry within this file
- then NEW USER PASSWORD <if enabled> will be skipped and the file
- NEWVIP (for MONO) / NEWVIPG (for ANSI) / NEWVIPR (for RIP) will
- be displayed to the caller, following the display of the above file
- the caller will be shown the Matrix NEWUSER file, then taken to the
- PCBoard sign on screen (Enter Your First Name). NOTE that the
- name the caller uses at Matrix Apply will automatically be inserted
- in the PCBoard sign in prompt <Enter your first name>!
-
- The VIP file has few rules however NOTE THE FOLLOWING;
- The first entry of the file should be a number which equals the total
- users/names in the listing. <ie if you have 5 names in the list then
- the first line of this file should read a numeral 5> Each time you
- add a new name to the VIP List you MUST increase this number so the
- matrix can appropriately find their Names in the VIP <if they are
- indeed listed in the APPLY VIP file>.
-
- *NEW*
- Line 22: Drive C: Name or DIR Name ie; "\bbs\util" was entered in this line,
- the matrix command to get back to this drive (from any other drive
- or directory would a C: at the matrix prompt. NOTE THAT A CD C:
- will also work (so will DIR C: etc...) all the commands are
- intereactive and whatever you enter in this field will become
- a command. <IE if you had two drives and decided to make drive
- C: a dir instead Placing a \UTIL in this line would allow you to
- do this at the matrix prompt: CD \Util, or DIR \UTIL, or DIR
- C:\UTIL or CD C:\UTIL etc....!> It is recommmended that if you
- change the drive Identifier <C:> then you should also change the
- matrix prompt for this drive module so they match.
-
- *NEW*
- Line 23: Matrix Caller-Name Minimum lenght REQUIRED / expected:
- Options in this line are: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 (values above 4 are ignored!)
-
- 4 = 4 letters names minimum required / 3 = 3 letter names etc...
-
- A User name can vary in lenghts. For example on most boards
- callers would have both a first and a last name. MT-Matrix
- previously expected callers to log on with a name with 4 letters
- or more <ie. JOE DOE> however some sysops allow 3 letter only names,
- if this is the case then modify this value to allow for your
- particular needs, <also see more notes below>
-
- <NOTES> Using a value of "0" in this line item is NOT recommended!
- since after all that would be telling mt-matrix that a callers name
- does not have to be a certain lenght <ie: if a caller was to access
- feedback at matrix and when prompted for "Msg. From?" if the caller
- would hit only a CR / (Enter) Key, it would just accept it as a valid
- name and procede to allow the caller into feedback, for this reason
- reason a 0 value in this field is not recommended unless you want
- feedback for "no name users" :)
-
- *NEW*
- Line 24: Save Matrix Feedback as a "PCBOARD" Main Board sysop comment
- or in the "MATRIX" Sysop.MSG file
-
- This line you should enter either the words PCBOARD or MATRIX.
- PCBOARD = will insert Matrix Feedback Comments as a main board
- COMMENT "PRIVATE SYSOP COMMENT"
- MATRIX = will insert Matrix Feedback Comments in the MATRIX
- SYSOP.MSG Msg. File.
- This toggle switch is now included as an option because some sysops
- login into the system via the PCBoard "Sysop - Busy, Sysop - Not Busy"
- Call Waiting Screen options. Accessing the system via this method
- will bypass the matrix, therefore there could be a chance that you
- could mean some important feedback, or if you just prefer to have
- matrix feedback saved as Main Board Comments. Set this option
- according to your preferences, If you are using the PCBOARD option
- be sure that it's entered in this configuration file ALL IN CAPS
- such as: PCBOARD or / MATRIX <ALL CAPS>

- COMMANDS MUST BE ENTERED HERE IN ALL CAPS!!!! (They can be entered in any case
- at the matrix prompt though!) To DISABLE ANY Command just CHANGE it's entry
- to LOWER CASE <This way if you want to enable them at a later time you can
- just edit this file and change them back to UPPER CASE to enable them again!
-
- You may also enter a 0 "Numeral Zero in the proper line" to DISABLE a command!
-
-
- - ALL 20 LINES OF COMMANDS.CNF MUST BE FILLED IN!
-
- TO DISABLE A COMMAND ENTER A 0 "Numeral Zero" INSTEAD OF A WORD/COMMAND
- OR CHANGE THE CASE TO lower case. Commands are valid only if IN UPPER CASE!
-
-
- (ALL Command Names) 0=None/Disabled (or change the cmd to lower case)
- To enable command/Name enter the NAME in ALL CAPS.
-
-
- - The above Configuration lines allow you to define the matrix commands
- - You may change any of these commands to your liking! However if you
- - do change the meaning of them, then you should Edit the MENU display file
- - accordingly so callers will see a listing of the correct commands.
- - Also NOTE that something must be entered in these lines!!! If you leave
- - the line blank MT-Matrix will interpet that as a Carriage return! and run
- - whatever command you leave blank simply by entering ENTER at the matrix
- - prompt! In other words LINE 1 of COMMANDS.CNF file is the SYSTEM LOADER
- - If you leave LINE 1 BLANK then hitting ENTER at the Matrix Prompt would
- - Run the system loader! "NOT RECOMMENDED!"
-
-
- - To disable a command enter a 0 "numeral Zero" in the proper
- - command Line! In other words if you wanted to disable the CHAT
- - command/feature then entering a 0 on line 10 would disable that
- - the CHAT feature/command! If you wanted to disable PAGE <same
- - thing as CHAT> then you would enter a 0 on line 11 and both of
- - them commands would NOT work! You may also enter the command name
- - in lower case. MT-Matrix can only interpet the command name from

-
- * Detailed Explanation of Commands *
-
- Line 1: MODTECH - Command to access the system loader (password protected)
- Will prompt caller for password [defined in MATRIX.CNF

- "Numeral ZERO" then password entry is skipped!
- Line 2: SYSTEM - Another Command to Load the System (password protected)
- Line 3: QON - INSTANT system entry loader command (NO Password required)
- Line 4: DIR - Display the MENU files (currently simulates a Dos dir)
- Line 5: FORMAT - Command WILL HANGUP on caller and display (FORMAT) file

- Line 13 CHECK - Check Sysop Password <if validated> (shows System
- password/Line 5 Matrix.Cnf) Note that whatever your
- system Password is, using that alone at the matrix
- command will load the system (w/no password)
- Line 14 INFO - Info about MT-Matrix displays INFO files [if found]
- Line 15 WELCOME - Displays the WELCOME files (if found in matrix path)
- Line 16 NEWS - Displays NEWS files to the Matrix Caller if found
- Line 17 HELP - Displays HELP files [HELP or HELPG for graphics]
- Line 18 LOGOFF - Hangup

- * Quick Descriptions of configuration options *
-
- Line1: Loading Matrix <message> Seen every login (if enabled)
- Line2: Enter your name? <prompt>
- Line3: Is that your Real Name (Y/n)? <prompt>
- Line4: <All New Callers> Please provide an alias for sign up purposes
- Line5: (-----) Used as a line guide in Msg Editor for Public and Sysop Msgs
- Line6: The Sysop is not available to Chat right now.
-
- Lines 7 - Lines 92 each contain a prompt which is displayed to the caller
- These should be self explanatory. Whatever you enter in these
- lines it will be what your callers will see each time the matrix
- needs to access a particular feature/command which will invoke
- either a prompt or a message.
-
- ANY Valid PCBoard @x Color Code prior to a prompt or message is valid.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- THIS FILE SHOULD CONTAIN 92 PROMPTS <LINES> ALL LINE CONFIGURATION OPTIONS
- MUST EXIST! YOU MAY NOT SKIP OR DELETE ANY PROMPTS OR MESSAGES! IF YOU DO
- DELETE ANY PROMPTS or MESSAGES then MT-Matrix is not capable of reproducing
- the correct prompts to a caller. ALL Prompts must remain in the order as
- provided by default, you may modify the wording or the colors to your liking
- but you may not switch them around or delete a prompt from this file, doing
- so will cause mt-matrix to not display it's messages and prompts to the caller.
- Also keep in mind that some prompts <i.e. lines 25 & 26> are purposevelly
- indentended a few spaces, this is so when they are displayed to the caller
- they will match <or look cosmetically right> Please observe these few
- instances where indentation is required. If some prompts are changed
- extensively then you should also run the matrix and try out your new
- configuration just to be sure prompts are lined up.
-
-
- !!! IMPORTANT !!!
-
- Prompts or Messages displayed to callers should NOT exceed 79 chars
- per line! <for cosmetic reasons> if they are longer in lenght then
- 79 chars then they will overlap onto the next line, and cosmetically
- they will not look right to callers. KEEP in mind that this 79
- char recommended limit per line EXCLUDES any Color Codes! Color
- codes are translated by MT-Matrix simply as a color therefore they
- do not occupy extra line spaces when displayed to callers <even
- though they will take up extra spaces in this config file>
-
- ANY VALID PCBoard Color Code may be inserted anywhere within the
- prompt in order to colorize them. If no color is specified here,
- then Matrix will default to displaying any prompt or message listed
- within this configuration file to the caller in Dark White = (@X07)
-
-
- !!! ALSO NOTE !!!
-
- It is not recommend that some of these messages to be changed
- extremely! Reason being is because each prompt or message
- displayed to a caller has a certain meaning for the particular
- function the caller happens to be at the time in the matrix.
- You may change the wording to your liking, but of course the
- meaning should remain close enough to the defaults provided
- here.
-
-
- All prompts and messages in this file may be colorized. Simply insert
- the proper PCBoard Color code before the message or prompt listed in
- this file.
-
-
- --- HINTS WHEN CHANGING / COLORINZING PROMPTS & MESSAGES ---
-
- Always first design the prompt or the message without adding any
- color codes to them, this way you will be able to tell the exact
- lenght, so you can be sure they do not overlap the 79 char per
- line recommended limit. Once you are satisfied with the message
- or the prompt which is displayed to callers, then add colorization.
- It is much easier to accomplish clean and good looking prompts and
- messages if you follow this rule. Also note that many of the
- messages in this file are actual prompts which the caller will
- be prompted for options, in these cases DO NOT ADD the ? at the
- end, MT-Matrix will insert them internally, therefore you DO NOT
- have to <NOR SHOULD YOU ADD> a Question Mark "?" at the end of
- any prompt or messages listed within this configuration file.
-
-
-
- !!! WARNING !!!
-
- THIS CONFIGURATION FILE <PROMPTS.CNF> IS REQUIRED FOR THE MATRIX TO WORK!
-
-
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- * Detailed Config Option-Descriptions For PROMPTS.CNF file *
-
-
- Line 1: Very first message shown to caller right after connecting to
- to PCBoard. Note that this message can be ENABLED or DISABLED
- via the MATRIX.CNF file line 16. In addition if ENABLED then
- an entry in line 1 of this file MUST EXIST! The message prompt
- can be whatever you choose though! ie <if you changed this
- message to something like "Dropping to Dos " then the caller
- would get a more realistic drop to dos :)
-
- Line 2: Throughout the matrix (for several features) the prompt
- "Enter Your Name" will be displayed to the caller. You may
- change the way this message prompt is displayed to the caller
- For example some sysops do not allow Names to be used for
- sign up purposes if this was the case then this prompt could
- be modified to "Enter Your Alias" instead.
-
- Line 3: The Matrix APPLY Feature {amoung others} will ask the caller
- for his Name or Alias <depending on how you configure line 2>
- This prompt just confirms that the NEW caller is using either
- his real name or his alias. Thus if answering NO to this prompt
- the Apply Function would abort and display the message in Line 4.
-
- Line 4: See Explanations on lines 2 and 3 - This message too is displayed
- to New Caller when using the Apply Features.
-
- Line 5: This is the Line Guide used in both the Post a Public Message
- and Feedback to Sysop Editor.
-
- Line 6: Displayed to caller after using the PAGE or CHAT commands
- To indicate the sysop is not available to chat <if indeed
- the sysop did not answer the page/call> FYI: At this point
- the caller is also prompted if he wish to leave a comment
- to the sysop instead. Also Note that at this point the
- caller is blacklisted from the Page functions. As with this
- version of the matrix the caller can only page the sysop
- once if the caller tries it a second time he will be
- instructed that the sysop had already been paged, and if
- there was no reply then they should leave a comment, and
- once again prompt the caller if he wish to leave a comment
- to the sysops instead.
-
- Lines 7 Through Lines 92:
- Each contain a prompt which is displayed to the caller
- These should be self explanatory. Whatever you enter in these
- lines it will be what your callers will see each time the matrix
- needs to access a particular feature/command which will invoke
- either a prompt or a message.

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- THIS FILE IS CAPABLE OF RUNNING UP TO 10 EXTERNAL PPE / MATRIX COMMANDS!
- ANY PPE / COMMANDS SPECIFIED AFTER THIS LIMIT WILL BE IGNORED BY MT-MATRIX.
- EACH PPE / COMMAND OCCUPIES 2 LINES IN THIS CONFIG FILE, THEREFORE THE LIMIT
- OF TOTAL LINES FOR THIS PPE.CNF FILE MUST NOT EXCEED 20 TOTAL LINES.
-
- !!!!NOTE!!!!
- YOU MUST ENTER THE PPE / MATRIX COMMAND NAME and PATHS ALL IN
- CAPS in this CONFIG FILE! From the Matrix they can be entered
- in any case though!
-
-
- !MATRIX PPE LAUNCHER CONFIGURATION MENU!
-
- NOTE! THIS FILE <PPE.CNF> MUST EXIST IN ORDER FOR EXTERNAL PPE FILES TO RUN!
-
- MT-Matrix allows the sysop to configure or run the Matrix in many ways.
- Sysops are no longer limited by the commands built-into MT-Matrix as now
- you can make your own commands! This configuration file allows you to
- run any PPE or commands you might create and they will become MATRIX
- commands. Each PPE will occupy 2 lines in this config file, the first
- line is the PPE name and ALSO becomes the MATRIX command to run it!
- DO NOT SPECIFY an EXTENTION, Matrix will properly insert the .PPE at the
- end, with the sample above where BBSLIST is specified, the BBSLIST will
- become a MATRIX command, and MT-Matrix when instructed to run the BBSLIST
- command will properly run the BBSLIST.PPE in the specified DRIVE\PATH.
-
- ** Detailed Explanations of PPE.CNF configuration Lines **
-
- Line 1: PPE NAME & MATRIX Command! Do not specify an EXTENTION, MT-Matrix
- will properly insert .PPE at the very end. In other words if you
- wanted a new MT-Matrix command called BBSLIST, then in this line
- you would enter BBSLIST, this word will become the MATRIX command
- you must be sure not to include the .PPE at the end, as MT-Matrix
- will properly insert it. With the sample above BBSLIST is the PPE
- and the Matrix command you want to run. The real file on the path
- should be named BBSLIST.PPE but you only need to specify the NAME
- here, as MT-Matrix will default to .PPE when ran.
-
- Line 2: DRIVE\PATH\ where the PPE you want to run as a matrix command is
- located. Any valid path is okay, but in the sample above a file
- BBSLIST.PPE must exist in the specified path. MT-Matrix would
- then have a new command called BBSLIST and if invoked by the
- caller it would run BBSLIST.PPE in the path specified here.
-
- YOU MAY RUN UP TO 10 EXTERNAL PPE FILES/COMMANDS DIRECTLY FROM MT-MATRIX
- WHICH MEANS THIS PPE.CNF FILE CANNOT EXCEED 20 TOTAL LINES. Any PPE
- COMMANDS which are specified above this limit will be ignored by MT-Matrix
- the DELUXE version has no limit on the amount of PPE's you can run from
- MT-Matrix.
-
- NOTE that MT-Matrix can now be even more adaptable! In other words if
- you not are satisfied with a particular Matrix Command or the way it works
- then you could simply disable it in the COMMANDS.CNF file and make your
- own add it here, then it would become a MATRIX command. An example
- is for example the FORMAT Command, where it simply displays the a file
- then it hangs up on the Caller, well you could say make a PPE which
- simulates a DRIVE being formated and the caller would then see it instead
- of the normal Format command which is included by default with MT-Matrix.
- To disable any command (either in this file) or others, simply change the
- Case to lower and the command will not be translated by MT-Matrix.
-
- REMEMBER! PPE COMMAND NAMES ARE TRANSLATED PROPERLY BY MT-MATRIX ONLY
- IF ENTERED IN THIS CONFIG FILE ALL IN CAPS! TO DISABLE A COMMAND/PPE
- simply change the case to lower!
