- ** HELLO:
- The program MsgRenum, is released as Freeware.

- to anyone you wish. No registration fee is required, there are no
- "Locked, Registered Only" features.
-
- ** LEGAL:
- You are given permission to "USE" the program, you do not "OWN" the
- program. All copyrights are owned by the author. You may not
- reverse engineer, or modify the executable file. You may not accept
- payment for the program. Shareware vendors may include on a disk that
- requires a purchase fee, but must be sure to note that this version
- of MsgRenum is FREE!
-
- ** PROGRAM AUTHORS:
- Shareware program authors are given permission to "Bundle" this program
- with their products, as long as no monetary compensation for this
- program is required.
-
- Commercial program authors who wish to bundle with their product, must
- contact the author for permission.
-
- ** DISCLAIMER:
- The author is NOT responsible for any damage to system, system files,
- mail files, or your peace of mind. You use this program at your own
- risk, and by using it, agree to this. Rest assured though, no damage
- should occur.
-
- ** WHAT'S IT DO?
- MsgRenum simply renumbers your *.MSG files into the lowest possible
- numerical order.
- When it first fires up, it determines the lowest "existing number" .MSG
- file, then begins renumbering at the next highest number.
-
- Lets suppose you have the following message files in your Mail directory:
- 1.MSG
- 2.MSG
- 43.MSG
- 44.MSG
- 49.MSG
- 52.MSG
- 70.MSG
-
- When MsgRenum fires up, it will determine that the numbers 1 and 2 are
- already in use, so it will start its renumbering, with the number 3.
- ie: 43.MSG will be renamed to 3.MSG, 44.MSG to 4.MSG, 49.MSG to 5.MSG
- and so on.....
-
- If you had a list like this:
-
- 1.MSG
- 2.MSG
- 4.MSG
- 5.MSG
- 6.MSG
-
-
-
-
- Page 2
-
-
- Then MsgRenum would start with message number 4, renaming it to
- 3.MSG, 5.MSG to 4.MSG, and 6.MSG to 5.MSG
-
- Got the picture?? <grin>
-
-
- Each time a .MSG is found, the check on already used numbers is performed
- again, to insure that it does not attempt to use a number already in
- use.
-
- ** WHAT DOES IT NOT DO?
- MsgRenum will not modify any other support files, such as any LASTREAD
- file that may be in the directory.
-
- ** RUNNING MSGRENUM:
- Typing MSGRENUM by itself, will display the program header, and the
- proper command syntax.
-
- The syntax is simple, you must give the full path to your Mail Directory.
- This can be a Fidonet Mailer's mail directory, or an older message base
- .MSG style directory.
- Example: MSGRENUM E:\FD\MAIL
-
- MsgRenum will display the filenames as they are renumbered, and report
- on how many message files were renamed.
-
- ** SUPPORT:
- Though the program is free, I do support it.
- However, if you send a netmail message with a question about MsgRenum,
- you will have to POLL for your reply, =OR= in your message, state that
- I should route it back to you.
-
- If you do not poll for your reply within about 5 days, it will be routed
- back to you.
-
- You can also log onto The RaLin Software BBS, and post a message to
- the Sysop, (that's me!) and call back for a reply, if you Page the Sysop,
- I "might" even been there to answer.
