  3.     The GAP-Pro line of utilities by RoboSoft Systems consists of 
  4.     programs designed to make your life as a GAP sysop much easier.  
  5.     They either provide capabilities not present in the basic GAP 
  6.     package or enhance capabilities that are included.

  10.     GAP_LIST generates file listings from a GAP filebase.  In one pass 
  11.     through the filebase, GAP_LIST will allow you to create condensed 
  12.     and enhanced listings for any and all areas and/or subjects.  
  13.     GAP_LIST's major features include:
  14.  
  15.      
  16.           - Creates Master lists of all areas and subjects
  17.             specified in the configuration file.  
  18.           - Creates Area (Forum) lists including all subjects
  19.             or individual subjects specified in the configuration
  20.             file.
  21.           - Creates individual listings for each area/subject.
  22.           - Can create separate Condensed, Enhanced, Raw, and 
  23.             New File listings in each of the categories above.
  24.           - Creates a color summary bulletin listing the number
  25.             of files and total bytes in each area and subject.
  26.           - Allows files to be excluded from the listings 
  27.             according to security level.
  28.           - Multi-user version can be run while users are still
  29.             online.
  30.           - Configuration file is plain ASCII so it's easy to
  31.             change and you can have any number of different
  32.             configurations.

  38.     GAP_VERIFY is a batch mode maintenance tool for the GAP       
  39.     filebase.  It's primary functions are:
  40.                 
  41.          - Verify the size, date, and location of files in              
  42.            the filebase.        
  43.          - Word-wrap the enhanced descriptions to fit the             
  44.            72-character line allowed by GAP.        
  45.          - Extract and use FILE_ID.DIZ descriptions if found            
  46.            in .ZIP files.        
  47.          - Add a contents line to the enhanced description
  48.            showing the number of files and newest/oldest
  49.            file date for .ZIP files.
  50.          - Re-parse the keywords using a sysop-defined list            
  51.            of words to be excluded from use as indexed keywords.        
  52.          - Look for "lost" files on the hard drive.  These are            
  53.            files that exist on the hard drive but aren't in             
  54.            the GAP filebase.

  56.     To provide for extremely fast operation, GAP_VERIFY makes use       
  57.     of advanced virtual memory techniques.  If you have a couple       
  58.     megabytes of EMS/XMS memory available, GAP_VERIFY should just       
  59.     about fly on your machine.  The verify process should run       
  60.     anywhere from twice as fast to upwards of ten times as fast as      
  61.     the GAPFILE UPDATE function, depending on exactly what is       
  62.     being updated.

  64.     One particularly handy use for GAP_VERIFY is to periodically       
  65.     scan your upload area and extract the FILE_ID.DIZ descriptions      
  66.     from the files uploaded in non-batch mode.  It will also update     
  67.     the file sizes to correct for comments added to the ZIP during      
  68.     UPCHECK processing.

  74.     Forum Shuffle will allow you to quickly and easily change the      
  75.     arrangement of the forums on your GAP BBS.  It will do      
  76.     everything except update your menus.  All you have to do is      
  77.     figure out what order you want the forums in and Forum_Shuffle      
  78.     will do the rest, including rearranging all the files required      
  79.     for GAPQWK and MainMail, and updating your filebase to reflect
  80.     the new forum arrangement.

  82.     Forum Shuffle is not the kind of program you're likely to use real 
  83.     often, but, when you need it, there is NO substitute.  Forum Shuffle 
  84.     can save you many hours of tedious, boring work.

  90.     GAP_Merge allows you to merge two GAP filebases into a single 
  91.     filebase.  To an extent, this duplicates the capability provided by 
  92.     the GAPFILE Merge function, but GAP_Merge allows you to specify a 
  93.     specific mapping of the area/subject associations between the source 
  94.     and destination filebases.  This means you do not need to make 
  95.     massive changes to the area/subject arrangement of either filebase 
  96.     before doing the merge.  If you want area 0, subject 5 in the source 
  97.     to become area 7, subject 42 in the destination, GAP_Merge will take 
  98.     care of it for you.

  100.     GAP_Merge will produce a complete log of all the collisions found 
  101.     during the merge and will optionally delete either the source or 
  102.     destination file in the event of a collision.  This is very handy 
  103.     when merging a CD-ROM filebase into an existing filebase.

  105.     A very useful side benefit of the area/subject mapping ability of 
  106.     GAP_Merge is that by merging an existing filebase into a brand new 
  107.     filebase (which GAP_Merge will create for you), you can use 
  108.     GAP_Merge to rearrange your filebase areas and subjects.  You 
  109.     simply indicate what you want the new area/subject mappings to be 
  110.     and GAP_Merge will create a new filebase to your specifications.  
  111.     If you've been wanting to rearrange your filebase but have been 
  112.     putting it off because of the massive amount of work involved, 
  113.     GAP_Merge may be just the solution you've been looking for.
