- FM_SORT.EXE; The FMAIL Message Area Sorter and Hudson Message
- Base Area Changing Utility
- Version 1.0
- by Mark L. Sarnov, Fozzy INC!
- October 1994

-
- Hello there Sysop!
-
- If you are like me, you are constantly updating your message bases
- and can't leave well enough alone.. RemoteAccess has the nice feature
- of GROUPing message Areass so the caller does not have to choose from
- a monster list, and that is OK.. But for the perfectionist in me, I
- wanted to have those message bases SORTED..
-
- I.E..
- Group 1 (or Letter Designated Group in FMAIL) should have message
- areas from 1 THROUGH 24.. not, 1,2,3-6,10-20,56, etc.. This usually
- occurs because we NEVER leave enough space between message area
- groups to ADD message areas BETWEEN Groups.. Or if you have MULTIPLE
- groupings, who can keep track of where they are when FMAIL asks you
- to add new message areas encountered when tossing new mail??
-
- So I decided, "Darn it, I'm Good enough, smart enough, and doggone it
- I can make a program to sort my FMAIL areas and then move the messages
- in the Hudson Message Base to meet the new sorted message area order."
-
- And here it is.. FM_SORT.EXE version 1.0!
-
- Here is how you use it.
-
- FIRST: BACKUP THE FILES LISTED BELOW! (Just in case of a blackout
- or something..;) )
-
- FMAIL.AR (In your FMAIL system dir)
- MSGHDR.BBS (In your HMB files dir)
- MSGIDX.BBS (In your HMB files dir)
- MSGINFO.BBS (In your HMB files dir)
- LASTREAD.BBS(In your HMB system files dir)
-
- Next.. Place FM_SORT.EXE in your FMAIL directory.. the dir with FMAIL.EXE,
- FMAIL.CFG, FMAIL.AR, FMAIL.NOD, etc..
-
- Then run FM_SORT.EXE from the Dos Prompt.
-
- 1. The program will sort your message areas that are stored in your
- FMAIL.AR file in ascending order based on GROUPs and ascending
- alphabetical order within each group.
-
- 2. Once FM_SORT.EXE is finished with FMAIL.AR, the program will ask
- if you would like to update the HUDSON MESSAGE BASE.
-
- If you answer <Y>es you will then be prompted for the the path to
- your HUDSON MESSAGE BASE FILES.
-
- FM_SORT.EXE will then change the individual messages to correspond to
- the new Message Area Numbering.
-
- 3. When the program is DONE, enter FSETUP-->Area Manager to examine the
- new sorted order. Then hit <F10> to save the configuration and
- AUTOEXPORT a MESSAGES.RA.
-
- IMPT!> you have to do the FSETUP-->Area Manager, <F10> to have FSETUP autosave a
- MESSAGES.RA for RemoteAccess, or MESSAGES.BBS for SBBS, etc...
-
-
- The old copies of the following files are not deleted, they are renamed:
-
- FMAIL.AR --------------> FMAIL.OLD
- MSGHDR.BBS --------------> MSGHDR.OLD
- MSGIDX.BBS --------------> MSGIDX.OLD
- MSGINFO.BBS--------------> MSGINFO.OLD
- LASTREAD.BBS ------------> LASTREAD.OLD
-
- So if you are unhappy with the results, you may restore your message
- base to it's original form by renaming the arrows above! :)
-
- That's about it! In future releases, I will have FM_SORT.EXE create a
- new MESSAGES.RA for you!
-
-
- Notes:
- This program ONLY sorts message areas that are between 1 and 200.
- (Hudson Message Base Convention) If you have more than 200 Message Bases,
- this program may not be for you!
-
-
- DISCLAIMER!!
- This program is not guaranteed to do anything but take up space on your
- hard drive. It has been tested fairly extensively and should not corrupt
- any of your RA/FMAIL files, however.. Backup your files consistently and
- often, a rule that applies to any computer user!!
