- Quick Installation, Configuration and Testing
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- To use FastFile you need an IBM 286 or above compatible computer
- and DOS 3.3 or later. FastFile can also be used with OS/2 2.x,
- OS/2 Warp v3, Desqview or MS-Windows.
-
- In addition to DOS you need to have installed a copy of
- RemoteAccess 2.0x together with a FOSSIL driver. You also need to
- have file transfer protocols if you want to be able to transfer
- files. The settings to use for example GSZ, DSZ, HSLink, Bimodem,
- CEXYZ, ZSXmodem and Smodem comes included with FastFile.
-
- A FOSSIL driver is a memory resident program that FastFile uses to
- communicate with the modem. FastFile has been tested with three
- FOSSIL drivers, Ray Gwinns X00, VX00 (for OS/2) and David Nugents
- BNU. RemoteAccess, FOSSIL drivers and file transfer protocols can
- be downloaded from most BBSs.
-
- Follow these instructions to install FastFile assuming that you
- have previously installed the BBS system and a Fossil driver.
-
-
- - - I N S T A L L A T I O N - -
-
- 1. Create a new directory for FastFile on your harddisk.
- Ex. C:\FASTFILE
-
- 1.1 Copy the FastFile archive to that directory.
-
- 1.2 Unpack the FastFile archive with the command : PKUNZIP FF_200.
-
-
- 2. Create a new directory for GSZ or DSZ or CEXYZ. Ex. C:\CEXYZ.
-
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- We recommend that you use CEXYZ or PDZmodem instead of DSZ/GSZ !!
- CEXYZ and PDZ is compatible with GSZ/DSZ and uses a FOSSIL driver.
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- 2.1 Copy the CEXYZ (or DSZ or GSZ) archive to that directory.
-
- 2.2 Unpack the CEXYZ (or DSZ or GSZ) archive.
-
-
- 3. Create a new directory for UC2 on your harddisk. Ex. C:\UC2
-
- 3.1 Copy or move UC2R2.EXE from C:\FASTFILE to C:\UC2
-
- 3.2 Unpack UC2 to C:\UC2, by running UC2R2.EXE in the C:\UC2 path.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-

-
- 4. Create a new directory for PKZIP, ARJ, LHA, RAR, SQZ and other
- archive programs on your harddisk. Ex. C:\TOOLS
-
- 4.1 Copy your archive programs to this directory, and unpack them.
-
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- If you already have archive programs installed on your harddisk,
- skip instruction #4 and #4.1.
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- 5. Add the FASTFILE, UC2 and ARCHIVE directorys to your PATH line
- in AUTOEXEC.BAT.
-
- Ex. PATH C:\DOS;C:\FASTFILE;C:\UC2;C:\TOOLS
-
-
- 6. Add the line SET DSZLOG=C:\DSZ.LOG to your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
-
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- NOTE : "SET DSZLOG=" APPLIES EVEN IF YOU RUN GSZ OR CEXYZ !
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
-
- 7. Add the line SET FASTFILE=C:\FASTFILE to your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
-
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- NOTE : SKIP INSTRUCTION #7 IF YOUR BBS USES SEVERAL NODES !
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
-
- 8. Reboot your computer.
-
-
- - - C O N F I G U R T I O N - -
-
- 1. MULTILINE CONFIG. (READ THIS IF YOUR BBS USES SEVERAL NODES !)
-
- 1.1 Start FFCONFIG.EXE from your node path, C:\RA\LINEx.
-
- 1.2 Check all paths and settings in FFCONFIG.
-
- 1.3 Select GLOBAL>DIRECTORYS in FFCONFIG and enter the right node-
- path on the NODE PATH line. Ex. Node Path C:\RA\LINE1
-
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- Node Path should specify the path of the directory containing the
- files EXITINFO.BBS and DORINFO1.DEF for the actual line.
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- 1.4 Exit FFCONFIG and repeat #1.1 to 1.3 for all nodes. ( or copy
- the first FF.CTL to all other node paths.)
-
- A FF.CTL must be created for each line. The Node Path statement is
- the only necessary difference between the FF.CTL files.
-
- If you have a multiline BBS you can also use [task] and #Include:,
- see "MultiNode Systems" later in this guide !!
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- DO NOT USE THE "SET FASTFILE=C:\FASTFILE" COMMAND ON MULTILINE BBS
- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- 24
-
- 2. SINGLE LINE CONFIG. (READ THIS IF YOUR BBS USES ONLY ONE NODE)
-
- 2.1 Start FFCONFIG.EXE from the FASTFILE directory, C:\FASTFILE.
-
- 2.2 Check all paths and settings in FFCONFIG. DON'T USE THE "NODE-
- PATH" SETTING (GLOBAL>DIRECTORYS in FFCONFIG) !
-
-
- - - T E S T I N G F A S T F I L E - -
-
- 1. Test FastFile by enter the command "US FASTFILE /L" in the
- FASTFILE directory.
-
- 2. Test FastFile's archive viewer by pressing V (view) when the
- cursor is pointing on a file in the filelist.
-
-

-
- In order to start FastFile from RemoteAccess a new menu alter-
- native should be added.
-
- 1. Start RACONFIG
-
- 2. Add a new alternative to your main menu :
-
- User display = FASTFILE
- Action = Execute sub-program (Type 7)
- Data = C:\UC2\US.EXE C:\FASTFILE\FASTFILE.EXE *M *X
- Hot-key = F
-
-
- RemoteAccess 2.00.g1, 2.00 and 2.01 users !!
- --------------------------------------------
-
- Although FastFile 2.00 is intended for use with RemoteAccess 2.02
- and 2.50, it can be used with RemoteAccess 2.00.g1, 2.00 and
- 2.01. Since these releases of RA don't support TAGLIST.RA it is
- very important that you remove it every time a user has logged off.
-
- TAGLIST.RA is placed in the node path, and to remove it you can
- add this line to your BBS batch file:
-
- DEL x:\RA\LINEx\TAGLIST.RA
-
- The line above should be executed every time a user has logged off
- your BBS.
-
-
- RemoteAccess 2.50 users !!!
- ---------------------------
-
- IF you have problems running FastFile 2.00 in RemoteAccess 2.50
- mode you can include the /RDX command line switch to force
- FastFile to RA 2.50 mode.
