-
- FExRA is a program which creates the RemoteAccess message base files
- (MESSAGES.RA and MESSAGES.RDX) from the Fastecho configuration file
- (FASTECHO.CFG). Areas are transferred by Fastecho 'Group' in the order
- in which you specify. FExRA also allows you to insert or delete blank
- areas at any point in your RemoteAccess message base; a handy utility
- in itself!
-
- FExRA is designed to work solely with JAM areas. Support for Hudson areas
- has been discontinued.

- I am responsible for nothing! The program has been throughly tested and
- should present no problems when used as described.

-
- Installation is straightforward. Just unzip the file FEXRA100.ZIP to a
- directory of your choosing e.g. "C:\FEXRA" then simply run the file
- FEXRA.EXE.
-
- IMPORTANT
-
- It is NOT recommened that you place FExRA in your System directory (usually
- C:\RA) as FExRA creates the files MESSAGES.RA and MESSAGES.RDX which are the
- messages base foles used by RemoteAccess. If this is done when your BBS is
- online then your users will be a little confused to say the least!
-
- It is also recommended that you copy the files RACONFIG.EXE and RACONFIG.OVR
- into the FExRA directory as you'll be able to use them to view the contents
- of the new MESSAGES.RA file which FExRA creates. This won't be necessary in
- future versions. See 'Future Versions' below.
-
- Users of RemoteAccess Versions below 2.50 will require to downgrade their
- message base files using the small FREEWARE utility DG.EXE which is
- availiable from my BBS. See 'Support' below for the numbers. It may be
- freqed as "DGUG" or downloaded as "DGUG.ZIP". This also includes a utility
- which upgrades from Version 2.02 to 2.50.
-
- See 'Distribution' below for a list of files included in the archive.

-
- FExRA works with Fastecho configuration files Revision 6 i.e. Fastecho
- Version 1.45. If FExRA is not compatible with your Fastecho configuration,
- it will tell you so. It won't run with incompatible versions.
-
- The following linew are required in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to allow FExRA
- to locate the files FASTECHO.CFG and CONFIG.RA :-
-
- "SET FE=C:\FE" where "C:\FE" is the location of your version of FASTECHO.CFG
- "SET RA=C:\RA" where "C:\RA" is the location of your version of CONFIG.RA
-
- Some Sysops set these variables within their BBS batch files and FExRA will
- highlight this as it runs. Alternatively, typing "SET FE=C:\FE" etc on the
- command line will suffice and allow you to run FExRA without any problems
-
- FExRA creates the files MESSAGES.RA and MESSAGE.RDX in the current directory.
-
- Run the file FRXRA.EXE and you will be presented with the following
- options:-
-
- Group to transfer
- Name or Comment
- Edit global record
- Insert blank areas
- Delete areas
- Shell to DOS
-
- Let's look at these options individually.
-
- Group to transfer
-
- Currently Fastecho supports a maximum of 26 Groups: A to Z inclusive.
- Cycle through the Groups by pressing enter and stop at the Group you
- want to transfer.
-
- Name or Comment
-
- You can choose to name your RemoteAccess area by Fastecho Name (echo tag)
- or Fastecho Comment (description)
-
- Edit global record
-
- This option allows you to set default values for all the areas within the
- group you are transfering. There are a few points to note:-
-
- (1) The global origin line may be better left blank and set using
- RACONFIG.EXE and Options, Messages, Default Origin.
-
- (2) At this time I do not know the limit on the number of AKAs
- RemoteAccess Version 2.50 will allow despite asking the author
- (Andrew Milner) for this information. At present, Version 2.02
- uses a byte variable to store the AKA number which allows a
- maximum of 256 options of which only 10 of these are available
- (0 to 9 inclusive). I have opened this up and allowed the maximum
- on the assumption that Version 2.50 will store AKAs in a seperate
- file. If you are using FExRA with a Version of RA below 2.50 then
- bear in mind the limit of 10.
-
- (3) You may need to set the security level of 'Sysop only' areas after
- you've globally transfered all the areas within a group. Use
- RACONFIG.EXE to do this. See 'Future Versions' below.
-
- Insert blank areas
-
- You can insert any number of blank areas at any point in the RemoteAccess
- message base. Any areas above the point of insertion will be pushed up by
- the number of records you are inserting.
-
- Delete areas
-
- You can delete any number of areas at any point in the RemoteAccess
- message base. Any areas above the point of insertion will be moved down
- by the number of records you are deleting.
-
- Shell to DOS
-
- No explanation required (hopefully)!
-
- To transfer areas to RemoteAccess then simply press F10 and the chosen
- Group and other options will be processed. To view the new MESSAGES.RA file
- then you'll have to drop to DOS in this version and run RACONFIG.EXE. Future
- versions will not require that you do this. See 'Future Versions' below.
- Users of RemoteAccess Versions below 2.50 will require to downgrade their
- message base files to view them then upgrade them to continue processing.
- See 'Installation' for information on these utilities and their
- availability.

-
- If you use the files MESSAGES.RA and MESSAGES.RDX created by FExRA then you
- are requested to register. Many long and hard hours have gone into creating
- this program for you. Registraion gains no immediate advantage as there are
- no crippled options in this program but those that register will get the
- next version CRASH mailed to them FREE OF CHARGE no matter where in the
- world! Not only that, but registered users will be entitled to upgrades
- without incurring any additional fee.
-
- The cost of registering this version is only 8 UK pounds (10 US Dollars)
- or equivalent.

-
- The next version of FExRA will include many more options than are being
- released with this version. There are plans to include a split-screen
- mode which will allow you to transfer and edit both Fastecho and
- RemoteAccess areas individually or in groups. See registration above if
- you want to take advantage of the 'CRASH' option! It WILL be worth it.
- Are there any additions you would like to see?
