- What is FdCfg
- FdCfg is a program that will make the configuration files for
- FdMsg. This is done by asking you questions and then placing
- the answers in the configuration file. This may not always make
- the shortest configure file, but it will make a good one.
- It will also allow you to edit any configuration file made by
- the program or made manually.
- If the files were made manually there is a chance the FdCfg could
- hang or give unreadable display. If this happens then remake the
- configuration files again using FdCfg.
-
- What do I need to start Fdcfg
- All that is required to run FdCfg is that FdCfg is in the same
- directory as FdMsg & where your configuation are to be. You
- must have run FdMsg at least once so that the file FDMSG.FIL
- is created.
-
- How to I operate FdCfg
- By typing and entering FdCfg this will bring up FdCfg with the
- Main Menu on the screen.
- Now you have the choice of making, editing, or exiting to DOS.
- This is done by using your arrow keys and pressing enter.
- You can exit from the main menu using the Esc key.
-
- Making a new Configure file.
- The first thing that you must answer is what will be the 3 letter
- ident of the file (really it can be 1, 2, or 3 letters). If you
- enter abc then the name of the configuration file will be
- FDMSGABC.CFG.
- The next question, is this for a NetMail or EchoMail message.
- You will then be asked when you want this message sent. The answer
- to the last 2 questions will determine what the following questions
- will be. Even the answer you give to some other questions will
- determine some questions. This makes it just about impossible
- to put all the combination of questions in a doc.
- Some important points are:
- Some validity checks are made. If you enter a path and file name
- the program will check to see if that file is really there. If
- it isn't then it will not let you enter it. Other checks are made
- like in some cases you can only enter certain charactors. The
- good thing about this is if you enter an incorrect answer the
- program in most cases will inform you that you made an error and
- will tell you what acceptable answers are. Remember that a correct
- answer for one configuration setup may not be acceptable in another
- configuration setup.
- IF YOU make a mistake you can NOT cancel the message until the end
- of the questions. It is done this way because it may be easier to
- "Edit" the configuration than to complete all the questions again.
- The most common error is to make the configuration and not have made
- the other files first. It is easier to enter something other than
- a file path & name then "Edit" the configuration file later.
-
- Editing a configuration file
- NO VALIDITY CHECKS when editing.
- When you want to edit a configuration file and go to the edit menu
- you will find the name of ALL the configuration files on the right
- side of the menu. Using the arrow keys you can select the file
- you wish to edit then press enter. The file (except for comments
- lines) will now be displayed on the left side of the screen.
- By using the arrow keys you can now select the line you wish to
- edit and then press enter. In some cases the value changes when
- you press enter and in other cases the line turns Blue and you
- type in a new answer. Again remember if you change something NO
- checking is done to insure you have it correct and all the required
- fields are present.
- You may delete lines using the Del key.
- You may insert a line by pressing the Ins key.
- You can only insert ONE line at a time and must press F7 (to save it)
- or press Esc (to cancel it) before you can insert another line.
- After you make all the changes you want you have 2 choices.
- If you press the F7 key then you will save all the changes.
- When you make changes to a configuration file another line will
- be added to the file giving the date and time it was edited.
- If you press Esc then NONE of the changes made will be saved.
-
- The best way to learn this program is to use it. Of course if
- you have any questions read the docs again, send me Netmail, or
- call voice 405-333-2252.
-
- See ya
