- The Blue Wave Mail Door/Maximus
- Version 3.01
-
- Common Questions and Answers
-
- This text file is simply meant to answer questions that I frequently
- receive, and may save you some time and expense of having them answered
- through Netmail. The Blue Wave Mail Door is a very complex program, but
- is designed to be as easy to use and understandable as possible. For
- full details on the door's operation, you should carefully read
- BWMAIL.DOC, enclosed with the distribution archive.
-
-
- Q: NONE of my message areas are showing up in The Blue Wave Mail Door.
- Why not?
- A: There could be several reasons why message areas are not showing up
- as selectable in The Blue Wave Mail Door. One of the things to make
- sure of is that the person who is online actually has access to get
- to the message area(s). The Blue Wave Mail Door understands
- Maximus's Privelege and Lock/Key system. Be sure that this is not
- the problem.
-
- But, probably the biggest reason for this is the lack of a 'MsgName
- <AreaTag>' line for each message area in Max's MSGAREA.CTL. The
- Blue Wave Mail Door for Maximus works mainly with AreaTags, and not
- with Area "Numbers". Here is a sample .CTL entry for Maximus's
- message area control file for the BLUEWAVE International Echo:
-
- Area 200
- MsgAccess Limited
- MsgName BLUEWAVE <== This is probably missing
- MsgInfo International Blue Wave Support Echo
- Type Squish
- EchoMail D:\Msgs\Bluewave
-
- Renum Max 300
- Renum Days 20
- End Area
-
- After adding the 'MsgName <AreaTag>' token in MSGAREA.CTL, be sure
- to reSILT your control files, and try running the door again. The
- message area will show up if the access level allows it to.
-
-
- Q: SOME of my message areas are not available through The Blue Wave
- Mail Door. Why?
- A: In most cases, it would probably help to read the answer to question
- #1. Even NETMAIL and LOCAL message bases *must* have a 'MsgName
- <AreaTag>' token defined before the door will recognize them. Here
- is a sample MSGAREA.CTL control file entry for a local message base:
-
- Area 1
- MsgAccess Twit
- MsgName LOCAL_CHATTER
- MsgInfo The Wild! Blue Chatter Box
- Type Squish
- Local D:\Msgs\Local
-
- Renum Days 30
- End Area
-
- If you are positive that the message area(s) in question have a
- 'MsgName <AreaTag>' token line in MSGAREA.CTL, and that you have
- reSILTed your Maximus setup, it may be because there is a BARRICADE
- defined for the area(s).
-
- The Blue Wave Mail Door completely ignores BARRICADED message areas,
- unless a message area override is defined for that area. Please
- read the documentation file BWMAIL.DOC in the section regarding
- "Message Area Override Editor" for more detailed information on
- defining a message area override.
-
- **** Max's "Extended" Barricades are fully supported. The barricade
- described above is the type that requires the user to enter a
- password before entering the area.
-
-
- Q: I'm thoroughly confused on the difference between FORCED message
- areas through the Override editor and FORCED message areas through
- the User File editor. What's the difference?
- A: Quick Description of Message Area Override FORCED Areas (I will
- call them Globally forced areas from now on):
- 1) Globally forced areas cannot be turned off by the user.
- 2) A user MUST have the security needed to read the area before
- it will become forced upon that user.
- 3) Globally forced areas affect every user that enters the door.
-
- Description of UserFile FORCED Areas:
- 1) Individually forced areas cannot be turned off by the user.
- 2) If an area is FORCED on a particular user, that area will
- be active WHETHER OR NOT THE USER ACTUALLY HAS READ ACCESS TO
- THE MESSAGE AREA.
- 3) Individually forced areas affect only the user that you
- activate message areas for. Others are not affected.
-
-
- Q: The user online has TTY graphics enabled. Why am I getting color
- on the local console? Are they getting ANSI color too?
- A: No, the door will always display color on the local screen (unless
- the -N[ocolor] command line switch is used). The remote user will
- not get the ANSI and/or AVATAR sequences unless they are enabled.
-
-
- Q: I want to use The Blue Wave Offline Reader to read packets on my
- local machine. What is the best or easiest way to download a mail
- packet through the door?
- A: Reading mail through the reader is especially handy if you are
- running DESQview. You can use the reader (which is DESQview aware)
- to read your mail packets in one window (or on another machine)
- while the BBS stays online in another window.
-
- There is an entire section of the documentation devoted to this
- topic. Please read the section titled "LOCAL MAIL DOOR USAGE" in
- BWMAIL.DOC.
