  13. Who can use this patch?
  14. -----------------------
  15. This patch is for registered users of PowerBBS only. If you have
  16. the shareware version of PowerBBS, you cannot use this patch. It won't work.
  17.  
  18. This patch will update PowerBBS 4.02a to PowerBBS 4.02b. Because of conflicts
  19. with the Early Experience Program beta, versions 4.02a and 4.02b will display
  20. as version 4.01 on the PowerBBS title bar.

  22. This patch will only work on PowerBBS 4.02a. You must have used BBS402.zip and
  23. BBS402A.zip to patch your registered PowerBBS 4.01 files up to 4.02b. If the
  24. size of your powrbbs.exe file is 1,001,984, you have the correct version to 
  25. use this patch. If you don't have this version, use the above mentioned patches
  26. first. If your copy of PowerBBS was mailed after May 16, 1995, then you don't
  27. need to use this patch.

  29. How to patch your powrbbs.exe
  30. -----------------------------

  32. Before running this patch, make sure the size of powrbbs.exe is 1,001,984.
  33.  
  34. 1. Shut down ALL nodes of PowerBBS.
  35. 2. Exit to DOS.
  36. 3. Place POWRBBS.RTP in \powrbbs
  37. 4. Run PATCH POWRBBS.RTP
  38. 5. Upon a successful patch the size or powrbbs.exe will become 1,002,496.
  39. 5. Restart Windows
  40. NOTE: You *must* restart Windows after patching PowerBBS. Though you can run
  41. the patch from a DOS window, we recommend you do it from DOS since you have
  42. to restart Windows anyway.
  43.  
  44. What does this patch do?
  45. ----------------
  46. This update fixes a very elusive bug in the PowerBBS protocol that took
  47. us months to pin down because it was such an odd error that occured only
  48. on a minority of systems. If your callers were reporting 
  49. Runtime Error 202 (usually at logon), then they will benefit most by
  50. this update.
  51.  
  52. This update forces your callers to be use PowerAccess 1.06. Therefore, you
  53. must be sure to pick up the patches P101-106.ZIP and P105-106.ZIP as well 
  54. as the full PACC106.zip archive. 
  55.  
  56. Place the patches in your RESTRICT directory, usually \powrbbs\restrict. Place
  57. the full archive wherever you want so long as you update each node in Config
  58. under PowerAccess.
  59.  
  60. When a PA 1.01 or 1.05 caller logs on, he will have the choice of downloading
  61. either the patch or the full archive to bring him up to 1.06. Callers will NOT
  62. be able to log on to your BBS without PowerAccess 1.06 (unless, of course, 
  63. they are using ANSI).
  64.  
  65. Features
  66. --------
  67. No new features have been added to PowerAccess 1.06 or PowerBBS 4.02b. These
  68. are merely maintenance updates that fix a few small bugs. You and your callers
  69. may discover that some PowerAccess screens seem to have features that are
  70. not enabled yet such as the Download Count on the File Description screen. 
  71. Those features will be enabled with PowerBBS 4.1. We chose to set up PowerAccess
  72. to be able to use those features so that sysops running the PowerBBS 4.1 Early
  73. Experience Program (EEP) will not need to have use different versions of 
  74. PowerAccess. If you are registered owner of the PowerSuite, contact Russell
  75. Frey on the Support BBS (not Internet) for more information about the EEP).

  77. PACC106.ZIP 
  78. -----------
  79. Please do NOT try to create your own PowerAccess 1.06 archive using your copy 
  80. of the patched Powracc.exe file. The whole install program has been rewritten
  81. so that PowerAccess will fit on a single 3.5" HD floppy disk. Please download
  82. the full archive and use that one on your system.
