- Introduction
-
- AKA is a door front end that allows the user to enter a door using
- an alias or a name other than his/her real name. AKA is compatible
- with EVERY existing BBS and with EVERY existing door program. It
- accomplishes this by being independent of any BBS-specific features
- or BBS-specific files.
-
-
- Installation
-
- Installation of AKA is a snap. AKA requires, at a minimum, two
- command line arguments. The command line syntax of AKA looks
- like:
-
- AKA [caller-info-file] [door-program] [...]
-
- The first argument is the FULL PATH AND NAME of the caller info file.
- Examples of caller info files would be:
-
- DOOR.SYS
- DORINFOX.DEF
- PCBOARD.SYS
- USERINFO.BBS
- USERINFO.DAT
- etc.
-
- Use whichever file is appropriate. If your BBS uses several of these
- files (ie, you're running some kind of file converter), then specify
- the name of the caller info file that the door to be called will be
- using.
-
- The second argument is the FULL PATH AND NAME of the door program
- that is to be called. This second argument can be followed by
- whatever arguments the door program would normally use. These
- arguments must be separated by spaces, obviously, and letter case
- is insignificant.
-
- AKA can be used as a door loader for any and/or all of your BBS doors.
- To install it on the BBS, just replace calls to execute a door
- with calls to AKA in the format shown above.
-
- AKA need only be installed in one path on the BBS drive, as a result
- of the flexibility of passing full path & name arguments to it.
-
-
- SYSOP
-
- AKA has available to the sysop a number of special keys that perform
- different functions while a user is in AKA. They are as follows:
-
- F5 - Shell to DOS
- F8 - Return user to system
- F9 - Toggle display on/off
- F10 - Pull user into CHAT mode (ESC to exit)
- ALT-H - Toggle between different status lines
-
-
-
- Shareware
-
- AKA is SHAREWARE, and as such it may be copied and distributed
- in an UNmodified form, with ALL accompanying files. AKA may be
- used unregistered for a 30-day trial period in order to determine
- it's usefulness.
-
- Being a responsible SYSOP (assumably anyway), I needn't remind
- you of the importance and impact that SHAREWARE has had on the
- PC community and the retail software market. Therefore, I won't
- beg and grovel for a measly $15 to register this software (which
- has taken "uncounted" hours of the authors' time to write). But I
- WILL say that by registering AKA, you are entitled to FREE updates
- as they are issued as well as a copy of AKA that is tailored to
- your particular BBS and free of the annoying "[UNREGISTERED COPY]"
- message. So, if you find AKA useful and you plan on using it on
- your BBS beyond the 30-day trial period, it would be HONORABLE
- to register it by sending in the registration form and the $15.
-
- The latest version of AKA is always available on Sensual Connections
- BBS in Ocala, FL 904-854-4984. Sysops desiring a registered version
- just a little bit quicker cam specify that their registered version
- be available to download from Sensual Connections BBS. Sensual
- Connections is online 24 hrs a day, 9600/2400/1200 baud.
