  22.                 PICKUP 144BBS FILES DIRECT ON YOUR FIRST CALL

  24.   Those of you wishing to call the DownTown BBS just to pick up 144BBS.TXT
  25.   (the ASCII version, ZIPped), or just leave comments, additions or
  26.   corrections to the list can call in using the User-ID "LIST". The Password
  27.   for this account is "LIST".

  29.   If your response, entry, or comment requires a response, please create
  30.   an account. Comments left under the generic LIST accounts will be read
  31.   and acted upon, however, they cannot be responded to since they are
  32.   shared accounts and do not support private e-mail replies.

  34.   There are six lines in hunt - if you require other than 2400, v.32 or
  35.   v.32bis, dial the number below that applies to your modem.

  42.  WHAT THIS IS:
  43.  
  44.  - The 144BBS List is a collection of numbers reported as belonging to US
  45.    BBSes with one or more lines supporting v.32, v.32bis, v.fast class and
  46.    v.34 CONNECTs.
  47.  - 144BBS List is compiled and maintained by Ken Sukimoto, SysOp of the
  48.    DownTown BBS as a service to DownTown BBS subscribers and other callers and
  49.    is published on an irregular basis although we try to have a new release on
  50.    the first of each month.
  51.  - 144BBS List is also available as a comma delimited file for those of you
  52.    using BBS doors for online display and/or in need of info for database
  53.    applications. This file is distributed as 144BBS.DB rather than 144BBS.TXT.

  55.  WHAT THIS ISN'T:
  56.  
  57.  - This is not intended to be an advertising list. With the way BBS's change,
  58.    there is no way I or most anyone else could keep up with software/hardware
  59.    changes, doorways added/deleted, specialties of the BBS and other features
  60.    that make a BBS unique. This would also make 144BBS even larger than it
  61.    currently is and just one more opportunity to be inaccurate.
  62.  - Although it is the goal, 144BBS is not comprehensive. I am quite sure there
  63.    are a lot of BBS's that have been omitted - rather than attempt to guess at
  64.    BBS names/numbers/cities and modem types, I am depending on reliable
  65.    sources to submit these missing BBS's and accurate information about them.

  67.  COPYRIGHT AND DISTRIBUTION:

  69.  - Since the content of 144BBS is for the most part public knowledge, no
  70.    formal copyright for content is applied for.
  71.  - I'm not even sure that the name "144BBS" isn't already copyrighted; if it
  72.    isn't, then that is the only copyright claimed.
  73.  - Rather than legalese and restrictions, I request common courtesy in the
  74.    distribution of 144BBS List.
  75.  - No fee should be charged for 144BBS List other than normal system access
  76.    requirements.

  79.  ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

  81.  - 144BBS List is dedicated to the SysOps who install high speed modems,
  82.    enabling users to access systems at higher and higher speeds. It is also
  83.    dedicated to these same users who motivated the SysOps to install these
  84.    modems through their contributions; material, inspirational and otherwise.
  85.  - Thanks go to the SysOps, Users and Administrators of U'NI Net, SmartNet,
  86.    MajorNet and Intelec for their help and the use of their networks to 
  87.    gather information for this list.

  89.  NAMING CONVENTION & MISCELLANEA:

  91.  - When distributing this list, do not rename 144BBS.DB or 144BBS.TXT!
  92.  - Most BBSes don't like unarchived text files, so if archived, name the
  93.    archive "144DB-a#.ext" or "144BBSa#" where:
  94.     a  = alpha designator - A=Jan; B=Feb; C=Mar; L=Dec
  95.     #  = the last number of the year; 1994 = 4, 19955 = 5
  96.    ext = whatever extension the archiving program defaults to.
  97.    The December, 1994 release will be named 144BBSL4.ZIP (using PKZIP to
  98.    archive) as an example of the naming convention.
  99.  - Please note - many systems listed are multi-line or multi-node and their
  100.    inclusion on this list does not mean the number listed has that particular
  101.    setup available. Some BBSes are subscription and reserve the high speed
  102.    lines for subscribers only.
  103.  - The 144BBS archives on The DownTown BBS and those directly uploaded by KEN
  104.    SUKIMOTO are archived using the PKZIP -AV authencity validation option.
  105.    When extracted, the -AV information should display The Downtown BBS
  106.    name and the # AIN871 registration.
  107.  - The DownTown BBS is currently a 6 line MajorBBS system with access on your
  108.    first call to download 144BBS. See the file 144PICK.UP for the procedure.

  123.    please contact the DownTown BBS with the applicable information. Leave your
  124.    board info in private e-mail addressed to User_ID "Sysop" with the subject
  125.    of "144BBS" or to the addresses below via Net or US Mail.
  126.  - Please do not send public messages to KEN SUKIMOTO on networks with your 
  127.    correction, new entry or comment. Although I will act upon the information,
  128.    many networks frown upon sending PUBLIC messages for this purpose.
