- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29i What's new - Mar 25 1996
- =====================================================================
-
- * Fixed: the bug that caused unnecessary delays after each call where
- files were to be truncated or deleted.
- * Fixed: the problem with frequent send errors under OS/2.
- * Fixed: a bug in IMSend that made it pick up the /x= parameter as
- an extra destination address.
- * Changed: the IMEXIT*.* semaphores are now picked up on startup and
- will keep on causing InterMail to exit until they are removed. This
- means that if you put an IMEXIT*.* file in the semaphore directory,
- you are also responsible for removing it.
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29h What's new - Mar 17 1996
- =====================================================================
- * Fixed: the bug which in some cases could cause unsent files to be
- deleted or truncated.
-
- * Special fields for Caller ID information have been added in IMSetup,
- to make it easier to see where the information should go. If your
- modem supports Caller ID, and you subscribe to this service from
- your local phone company, enable Caller ID logging in InterMail
- as follows:
-
- 1) For most modems: in IMSetup, go to Modem/Advanced setup/Command
- strings, and add the following to one of the init strings (Init-1,
- 2 or 3): #CID=1
-
- 2) Go to Modem/Advanced setup/Answer control, and set
- "Answer on ring" to 2.
-
- 3) Go to Modem/Advanced setup/Messages, and type in the following
- words in the appropriate Caller ID fields: NAME, NMBR, DATE
- and TIME.
-
- This information will then be saved to your log file.
-
- NOTE: The two new fields reuse space that was previously used for
- connect messages. Make sure that you check them and see that
- they don't contain any "CONNECT xxxx" strings.
-
- * New version 2.0 of IMsend. The limits for max number of destination
- addresses and max number of attached files have both been raised to
- 200.
-
- * Important announcement from Peter Stewart:
- |-------------------------------------------
- | As the author of InterMail and InterEcho, I would like to announce
- | that I, together with my wife, Michele, have formed a new company,
- | Further Development, Inc. Effective immediately, sales and support
- | will be handled by us.
- |
- | We have acquired all rights to the products in the InterMail family,
- | which previously were spread over a number of hands. From now on,
- | all copyrights will be held under one name: Further Development ,Inc.
- |
- | What does this mean to you, our clients? We are convinced that you
- | will notice substantial improvements .The software will still be
- | programmed and supported by me, with the difference being that there
- | should now be more resources to devote to development.

- InterMail 2.29g What's new - Dec 01 1995
- =====================================================================
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Fixed invalid pointer operation bug when purging/sorting the phone
- directory in the terminal.
- * When forwarding a message to the netmail folder using a quickname,
- conflicting message attributes should no longer be possible (i.e.
- Hold and Crash simultaneously).
- * Minor adjustments to make InterMail work better under Windows95.
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29f What's new - Aug 13 1995
- =====================================================================
-
- This version fixes the problem with mailers calling in with very
- large EMSI handshake packets. Up to 80 AKAs from the remote system are
- supported.
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29e What's new - Aug 01 1995
- =====================================================================
-
- This version should fix all the problems encountered under Windows NT
- 3.5 and Windows 3.11 that were caused by the bug in Microsoft's code
- for 32-bit file access, in the handling of DOS function 44h (IOCTL),
- sub-function 6, which doesn't report End-of-file like it should
- according to the DOS documentation.
-
- The performance under DESQview has been improved. The mailer now
- releases more time slices when idle.
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29d What's new - Jun 01 1995
- =====================================================================
-
-
- OS/2 com routines
- -----------------
- The new com routines for OS/2 should give file transfer performance
- approaching native OS/2 programs. This is accomplished by using the
- same function calls that are available to OS/2 applications. In other
- words, InterMail handles communication under OS/2 in exactly the same
- way as a native OS/2 program.
-
- The high performance (=low CPU usage) is partially achieved by letting
- the application become "blocked" while waiting for a read request to
- be fulfilled, meaning that it takes up 0 percent of the CPU. Of
- course, after a little moment it will need to regain control from
- OS/2 to check the keyboard, etc. This is done by setting the read
- timeout value for the COM device used.
-
- InterMail allows you to fine-tune the performance by giving you
- control over this timeout value, using a new command line parameter
- /OS2TO:xx, where xx should be a value between 2 and 15 (tenths of a
- second). The default is 3. Example:
-
- IM /nf /os2to:4
-
- Values above 10-15 may lead to decreased efficiency while sending and
- may also interfere with other timers, and should not be used.
-
- Note that if you load a FOSSIL, like VX00 in the same window, you must
- use the parameter /NF (no fossil) for InterMail to use its
- OS/2-specific com routines.
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Max number of session-level passwords increased to 2048.
- * Max length of usernames retrieved from NAMES.IM increased from 30 to
- 35 characters.
- * Fixed problems caused by a bug in OS/2's findfirst function. If the
- volume label was "OS2", the operating system would return a
- successful match on _any_ file with a name starting with "OS2", and
- similarly for any other volume label, for example "DOS". We now
- check that we haven't just found the volume label before assuming
- that an incoming file already exists.
- * The Function Requests name macro (=N) is now set to "Anonymous" if
- the caller doesn't present a name and the node is unlisted.
- * Netmail attaching echomail archives created by InterEcho are not sent.
- * Fixed problems caused by the bug in Windows for Workgroups' (32-bit
- file access) handling of DOS function 44h (IOCTL), sub-function 6,
- which doesn't properly report End-of-file. The mail-history files
- should now work ok with 32-bit file access turned on.
- * Messages without zone information are now assigned to the same zone
- as the main AKA. Hopefully this will prevent mail from being picked
- up by the wrong node, without causing any other problems.
- * Fixed the replace function in the editor.
- * Supra 288i/e added to the modem pick list.
- * Updated the printer pick list.
- * Plus several tiny adjustments.
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29c What's new - Feb 01 1995
- =====================================================================
- This release contains only fine tunings and fixes:
-
- * Added support for up to 1024 session passwords.
- * Fixed stack overflow error when changing the addressee of a mail
- bundle and moving from the top to the lowest level of the nodelist.
- * The terminal will now only enable XON/XOFF handshaking at the
- FOSSIL level if the modem runs at 2400 bps or below.
- * Plus several tiny adjustments.
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29b What's new - Dec 07 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- * Fixed the stack overflow bug when a packet was found in the
- incoming directory on startup. It could cause lock-ups.
- * Fixed problems with session handshakes with MacKennel and SEAdog.
- * Fixed bug that caused the "Unable to remove window" message.
- * Fixed problem with 43/50 line mode in the mailer and in the terminal.
- * Fixed the cosmetic bug in the Folder Manager in IMSetup where user
- numbers would overwrite parts of the origin line.
- * A rescan request will no longer make the mailer hang up when in
- between CARRIER, COMPRESSION, PROTOCOL and a CONNECT message.
- * Added support for up to 512 session passwords.
- * If the "/Zmax:" parameter is set to 1024 or less, InterMail will
- request 1K (standard) Zmodem instead of ZedZap. This makes it
- possible to force a max block size of 1024 bytes even when the
- other side starts the file transfer.
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29a What's new - Nov 04 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- * Expanded the field for the answer string from 10 to 20 character,
- to accomodate fax modems with adaptive answering.
- * Fixed a bug in the terminal that gave some downloaded files a date
- of 01-01-80.
- * All the menues and fields that were used only by InterEcho has been
- removed. Use the InterEcho setup program IESetup for these settings.
- * The "Type" field in the folder manager in IMSetup will only display
- the *.msg and Hudson message formats. All other formats currently
- supported by InterEcho and IESetup will be displayed as "Other".
- IMSetup won't destroy these folder configurations, but you should
- use IESetup to edit them.
- * InterEcho's setup program v1.02 has a bug where it may accidentally
- enable local access passwords (from your keyboard) on message
- folders. This will be fixed shortly, but in the meantime the
- passwords can be removed in the folder manager in IMSetup.
- * Message folders for Unlisted Areas (Unknown Areas), Unsecure Areas
- and Dupes, created by IESetup, can now be used with InterEdit (the
- InterMail message editor), provided that you use the *.msg or Hudson
- message format.
- * Fixed a cosmetic bug in the IMSetup's Security Manager (session
- passwords), where garbage would be written outside the window when
- item 20, 21 etc. was edited.
- * Fixed some timing problems in the initialization of a Zmodem session,
- which could show up with ISDN connections and link speeds of 57.6 kbps.
- * Fixed handshake problems with MacKennel, a fido style mailer for
- Macintosh.
- * Fixed a bug where IM could hang up on the remote in some cases when
- CARRIER, PROTOCOL, & COMPRESSION messages were enabled on modems
- using the Rockwell V.FC or V.34 chipset.
- * A related fix speeds up the processing of modem messages and might
- improve on the response time for RING messages under Windows.
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.29 What's new - Jun 29 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- * The problem with the mailer hanging when receiving a last block
- of 0 size on small files (the infamous 1024 bytes lockup bug) is
- finally fixed! This one was realy hard to track.
- * New parameters for function requests, to avoid conflicts in
- multi-line setups:
-
- "=R" - function request result path. Allows the path to be passed
- as a parameter to the program that processes the request.
-
- "=#" - mailer id. Allows the line number to be passed to the program
- that processes the request. Can also be included in the result
- path, so that separate directories can be used depending on
- the line number. Example from ALIAS.LST: ^-c:\tempout.=#\*.*
-
- * A function request is now logged with all command line parameters
- fully expanded, to facilitate debugging of ALIAS.LST and function
- request processor.
- * Ctrl-Q once again works in the terminal.
- * Fixes a problem that would occur when a modem for some reason
- didn't lower Carrier Detect after a call, and InterMail wouldn't
- re-initialize the modem.
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.28 What's new - Jun 02 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- * The time-slicing has been fine tuned to work as well as possible
- for OS/2, DESQview and Windows.
- * The definition of a 'secure session' has been changed to 'a session
- where a correct session password has been exchanged'. Other sessions
- are considered un-secure, even if you in reality know who you are
- calling to. As a result of this change, incomming files in un-secure
- sessions will always be saved in \IM\FILES, no matter who originates
- the call. Incomming files in secured sessions will be saved in
- \IM\SECURE, just like before.
- * The Mailer will now respect the IMSLEEP.NOW semaphore on startup.
- * The max number of messages in the netmail folder has been increased
- to 2000.
- * The following modem has been added to the modem pick list:
-
- Boca 28.8 V.FC/FAX
- Hayes Optima 288 V.FC + Fax
- Practical Peripherals 14.4
- Supra SupraFAX V32bis
- USRobotics Sportster/PC V32bis V42bis
- Zoltrix 14400 v32bis V42bis
- Zoom 28.8 V32bis V42bis V.FC FAX

- InterMail 2.27 What's new - Feb 24 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- External file request processor
- -------------------------------
- We have added more features and fixed some bugs in the hook for an
- external file request processor:
-
- * Increased the max number of allowed return messages to 254 (01-FE).
- * Added "UNLISTED" as a value of the %X parameter
- * Added %M = minutes left to the next event when requests are not allowed.
- * A minus (-) as the first character of the file name returned by
- an ERP means that the file will be deleted after sending.
- * Fixed bug in the handling of return messages.
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Fixed bug that prevented IM /T from working.
- * Added option to choose 'File requests from password protected
- systems only' in the install program.
- * Added Hayes Optima 288 to the modem pick list.
- * Additional fine-tuning of the releasing of time slices under OS/2.
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.26 What's new - Jan 01 1994
- =====================================================================
-
- NOTE! Changed file name
- -----------------------
- All versions prior to 2.26 has used FOLDER.CFG, but from now on, the
- file name is IMFOLDER.CFG. The format has been changed. If you
- haven't done so before, you must run FOLDCVT.EXE before using IMSetup
- or the InterMail editor. Your old FOLDER.CFG will be retained, so you
- can go back to the previous version of IMSetup and the InterMail
- Editor, if you wish. FOLDCVT will be able to find FOLDER.CFG if you
- have the usual environment variable: SET IM=c:\im
-
-
- NOTE! Clean old fields
- ----------------------
- It is important that you check the user defined modem messages under
- IMSetup --> Modem --> Advanced setup --> Messages. These strings
- reuse space that has been unused since InterMail 2.10. If you find
- any CONNECT messages there, please make sure to remove them.
-
-
- User definable modem messages
- -----------------------------
- Six user definable modem messages have been added. Can be used to log
- connection protocol messages for modems that display these messages
- on a separate line (e.g. "CARRIER", "PROTOCOL", etc.). These strings
- reuse space that has been unused since InterMail 2.10. If you find
- any CONNECT messages there, please make sure to remove them.
-
- Sample: If you have an Hayes Ultra 288, you may want to enter CARRIER
- on line one and PROTOCOL on line two. After this you will find
- interesting info in your log file, sent from the modem just before
- the connect string.
-
-
- Number of rings before answer
- -----------------------------
- Under IMSetup --> Modem --> Advanced Setup --> Answer Control there
- is a new option to configure the number of rings before IM answers
- the phone, to aid in logging caller ID where information is received
- between ring signals.
-
-
- Caller ID
- ---------
- The user definable modem messages may also be used to log caller ID
- information ("NMBR","NAME"), provided that your modem supports it.
- You will see the phone number of the caller in your log file.
-
-
- Squish .BSY semaphore
- ---------------------
- The Squish .BSY semaphores should work for when the next beta of
- Squish is released. Unfortunately, Squish itself didn't support them
- for ARCmail type mailers. After discussing this with Scott Dudley, we
- have come up with a solution that will be implemented in both Squish
- and IM.
-
-
- External file request processors
- --------------------------------
- It takes time to find filenames on CD-ROMs and slow harddrives. On
- some systems the file requesting caller times out and gets
- disconnected before the file transfer even has started. A solution
- for this is to use a third-party file request processor. We have now
- built in a hook for this and welcome any third party developers to
- use it! If the file request processor is defined in IMSetup, it will
- be started just after the file request is received, while the caller
- is still on-line.
-
- See IMSetup --> Mailer --> File Requests --> External. The following
- is an example of how a request processor could be installed:
-
- C:\MYFREQ.EXE %A %F %N %P
-
- The pseudo parameters would in this case give the request processor
- the following information: network Address, List file, User name,
- Password.
-
- In all the parameters, any spaces are replaced with underscore
- characters (_). These are the available parameters:
-
- %A Network address of the remote system. Sample: 1:369/35
- %B Link rate for the connection in bps. Sample: 14400
- %C Session cost per minute, as defined in the cost table in
- FDNODE.CTL. Sample: 25
- %D "INBOUND" or "OUTBOUND", depending on whether it's an incoming
- call or not.
- %F Pathname of the request list to be processed.
- Sample: C:\IM\IMFILREQ.001
- %L Location provided by remote system's site info.
- Sample: Hollywood_FL
- %N Name of remote system. Sample: InterZone_Cafe
- %O Name of remote system's SysOp. Sample: Peter_Stewart
- %P Sessionlevel password given by remote system.
- %X "SECURE" or "UNSECURE" depending on whether the session is
- password protected or not.
- %Z Type of session: "WAZOO", "EMSI" or "OTHER" (the last is
- unlikely, since the external processor currently won't be
- invoked for BARK requests).
-
- The external request processor is executed in a shell from InterMail.
- It should finish processing within the timeout limits of the Zmodem
- protocol. The following should be returned by the file request
- processor:
-
- 1) The processed request list, using the same filename as the
- original list and containing the fully resolved pathname of each file
- that is to be sent.
-
- The request processor must handle all magic filenames, timestamps for
- update requests, as well as all password protection. Timestamps and
- passwords are supplied in the standard WaZOO request list format,
- since IM doesn't pre-process the contents of the request file in any
- way.
-
- 2) (Optional) Up to four return message files. These should be placed
- in the same directory as the request list and must use the following
- naming convention: IMRMSGnn.ext, where "nn" is the number of the
- message ("01"-"04"), and ".ext" is the same extension as that of the
- request list (e.g. ".001", ".002", etc.).
-
- The name of the "sender" of the message can be inserted as a kludge
- line at the start of the message. If the first character is ^A
- (0x01), then IM will use the first line of the message (up to 35
- characters) as the name of the sender. Otherwise the sender will be
- "InterMail". For the developer, this means that if you intend to use
- any other "kludge lines", e.g. MSGID, you must insert the sending
- program's name as the first line. NOTE: The message should contain
- text only and no message header beyond the name of the sender: IM
- will create the packed message header with all the required address
- information.
-
- The message text should be plain ASCII, and the only control
- characters should be ^A, CR and LF. InterMail will do no other
- processing of the text than creating a packet and message header,
- inserting any required INTL and FMPT/TOPT lines, and transmitting the
- message text unchanged.
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Max number of folders increased to 1000.
- * Occasional problems when the semaphores got out of sync, and a
- message of "Not dialing xxx..." was displayed, should now be fixed.
- * The folders defined in the Echomail manager no longer display the
- useless uplink and areatag fields as in previous betas.
- * OS/2 2.1 changed it's handling of released time slices from what it
- used to be in OS/2 2.0. This version uses the method that works
- with OS/2 2.1.
- * Additional fine tuning of the time slice handling under Windows.
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.25 What's new - Oct 12 1993
- =====================================================================
-
- There are two new features and some problems fixed in version 2.25:
-
- New file request mode
- ---------------------
- In IMSetup --> Mailer --> File requests --> Mode, you now have a new
- mode that stops file requests from nodes not listed in the Security
- Manager, i.e. those who have no session password with you. Choose
- between:
-
- + No requests
- + Anyone can request
- + Systems in nodelist can request
- + Only password protected systems can request
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- An eight character session password could sometimes put the mailer
- in keyboard lock mode, but that is now impossible.

- Not released
-
-
- =====================================================================
- InterMail 2.23 What's new - Aug 01 1993
- =====================================================================
-
- * Fixed Lock-ups during transmission.
- * The ASCII-editor in the IMNC.EXE couldn't open files.
- * The semphore control for processing mail disturbed the re-dialing
- in the terminal.
- * No form feed after the last page when printing a long message.
- * The install program gave no warning before over writing modem setup.

- InterMail 2.22 What's new - Jul 01 1993
- =====================================================================
-
-
- Manual Answer (Ctrl-I)
- ----------------------
- This new feature has two main applications:
-
- 1. It facilitates sharing a voice line with a modem for incoming
- calls. Those sharing a voice line can simply hit Ctrl-I when they
- pick up the phone and find that there is a modem on the other end of
- the line (i.e., no sound) instead of a person.
-
- 2. A call can start as a voice discussion and switch to a data
- connection without hanging up, in conjunction with Manual Dial and
- item #3 below.
-
-
- Manual Dial (Ctrl-D)
- --------------------
- This new feature has three applications:
-
- 1. When dialing from a portable PC in a hotel room, it is often
- easier to just type in one's credit card information under the Manual
- Dial option, instead of editing the FDNODE.CTL and recompiling the
- nodelist. This is particularly useful for novice users.
-
- 2. When engaged in an operator assisted phone call to a data line,
- e.g., overseas, one can fill out the information in the Ctrl-D menus,
- place the call by handset, talk to the operator, and when one hears
- the phone ringing on the other end press Enter to put your modem
- off-hook to await the remote carrier.
-
- 3. A call can start as a voice discussion and switch to a data
- connection without hanging up, in conjunction with Manual Answer,
- above. The "sender" prepares the mail and/or file(s), prepares the
- Ctrl-D Manual Dial screen, hits Enter, and the "receiver" waits for
- the "calling" modem to go offhook BEFORE hitting Ctrl-I to answer.
-
- The best experimental experience to date with Manual Dial has been
- achieved by changing IMSetup -> Modem -> Advanced setup -> Command
- strings -> Return on-line: ATX2DT
-
- The X2 assures that VOICE will not be detected, and the "," at the
- end allows it to dial without actually dialing any touch tones.
-
- Sample screen for Manual Dial:

-
- CAPTURE in scripts
- ------------------
- Two new commands have been added to the script language.
-
- CAPTURE ON [filename] will open a capture file and log all incoming
- characters to the file during the WAITFOR and
- CASE commands.
-
- CAPTURE OFF closes the capture file. If you forget, the
- file will be closed automatically on exit from
- the script.
-
- NOTE: CAPTURE will only work with the commands that read the port:
- WAITFOR and CASE. Other commands, such as WAIT do not access the com
- port, and any received characters will just sit in the buffer until
- the next WAITFOR or CASE command. Usually, you would also want to
- code a loop to find the end of the information you would like to
- capture:
-
- capture ON c:\im\capture.txt
-
- :waitmore
- case
- "End of messages" : >logoff
- @default : >waitmore ; read more on timeouts
- endcase
-
- :logoff
- capture OFF
-
-
- New Semaphore files
- -------------------
- IMEXIT00.### Tells all Mailers to exit with an errorlevel specified
- by the extension of the file.
-
- IMEXIT??.### Tells the Mailer to exit with an errorlevel specified by
- the extension of the file, with ?? specifying the number
- of the Mail Server that is to exit.
-
- X1234567.8yy Node number semaphore, where "x" is the character "X",
- "1234567.8" is hex of a CRC-32 over two longs containing
- the 4d address, and "yy" is the mail server (line)
- number in hex. Primarily for use by echomail processors.
-
- IMRENUM.NOW Controls access to renumbering of messages, and prevents
- dialing while renumbering is in progress.
-
-
- Miscellaneous
- -------------
- * Support for UISDN nodelist flags.
- * Support for baud rates in routing and dial control. A baud rate is
- specified as @2400, @9600 etc.
- * Verbose listing for lookup by name in the nodelist.
- * Undo function when moving between messages in a folder: Alt-Backspace.
- * Separate lastread storage for each user in *.msg folders.
-

- H14 and H16 nodelist flags
- --------------------------
- Support for all FidoNet nodelist flags, as of Jan 15 1993. These two
- new flags in FidoNet are being used if you are using one of the
- following modems:
-
- H14 USRobotics HST 14400 bps
- H14 USRobotics HST Dual Standard 14400 bps
- H16 USRobotics HST 16800 bps
- H16 USRobotics HST Dual Standard 16800 bps
-
- The two flags make it possible to separate outgoing calls via the
- routing file. Example: You are using two phone lines and two modems in
- InterMail multi-line setup. One of your modems is a USR HST 14400
- bps modem and the other is a USR HST 16800 bps modem. Problem: You
- don't want your 14400 modem calling out to a 16800 modem. Solution:
- It's better to do all HST 16800 calls with your HST 16800 modem, and
- all HST 14400 calls with your HST 14400 modem.
-
- Multi-node #1 Modem: USRobotics HST 14400
- Routing file ROUTE.IM: send-to all except H16
-
- Multi-node #2 Modem: USRobotics HST 16800
- Routing file ROUTEIM.002: send-to all except H14
-
- The nodes you are calling to, must have the proper nodelist flags.
- The dial command files DIALCTL.001 and DIALCTL.002 may contain the
- nodelist flags and extra modem initializing strings:

- 20 AKA's
- --------
- The number of AKA's (Also Known As) has been increased from 10 to 20.
- This makes it possible for you to join more networks and/or use more
- node numbers in the same network. When calling another InterMail
- system, you will be able to pick up mail even for AKA 11-20, but when
- calling nodes who uses other mailer software you shouldn't expect
- that. Screen capture:

- InterMail 2.20 What's new - Dec 12 1992
- =====================================================================
-
- Multi-line
- ----------
- You can run up to 99 modems and phone lines simultaneously via OS/2,
- Windows 3.x, DESQview or a Local Area Network such as Novell and
- LANtastic. You can use different modems with different speed and
- routing rules. All mail servers communicate via semaphore files. They
- know exactly what all other mail servers are doing. One can call out
- while another is bundling mail and a third is executing an external
- event. They can use the same nodelist and they can be "put to sleep"
- during maintenance like nodelist updating. To install an extra line
- is very easy and will only occupy 50 KB extra on your harddisk.
-
-
- Secure inbound path
- -------------------
- Are you worried about bogus echomail? Don't be, because InterMail has
- a special directory where incoming files are stored if the session is
- protected by a session password. If the session is not protected, the
- files will be stored in another directory. Your echomail processor
- can be set up to only process mail with a known sender. Even if
- somebody sends you a false mail packet, your echomail program will
- not import it.
-
-
- Internal Serial Driver
- ----------------------
- An internal serial driver has been added. In other words, X00, BNU or
- any other FOSSIL, is no longer required. InterMail will use its own
- internal routines if a FOSSIL isn't present or if it is loaded with
- the parameter /NF. It is specially optimized for fewer port accesses
- with Virtual Machines and with virtual device drivers like under
- OS/2, Windows and DESQview. In most cases the internal driver should
- prove faster than a FOSSIL. This means that you can save money on
- shorter phone calls.
-
-
- New Manual
- ----------
- The old Users Guide and Reference Guide have been merged, rewritten
- and updated to a brand new softcover manual with 450 pages. Written
- in a clear and concise style, its step by step instructions make it
- easy for you to learn how to take full advantage of the features in
- your new software. No other mailer comes with documentation in this
- class! The manual is included in every package, both upgrades and
- new.
-
-
- User definable connect strings
- ------------------------------
- All connect strings are user-definable. This means that InterMail is
- prepared for new connect strings in the future. If you in the future
- should buy a modem which uses higher speed and new connect strings
- that are unknown today, you just type them in manually. Forget about
- conflicts between old software and new modems.

- The most common modems are in the list where you pick your modem
- during installation. If you don't want to bother with modem setup you
- don't have to, because we have already done it.
-
-
- Exit on specific connect string
- -------------------------------
- Immediate exit with an errorlevel on specific connect messages from
- the modem. This makes is possible to start a fax program if your
- modem can give the string CONNECT FAX, like ZyXel U-1496-E does. The
- fax software is started from IMRUN.BAT
-
-
- Ringmaster
- ----------
- Support for Ringmaster or "distinctive ringing" has been added. It is
- an extra service from you local phone company. It lets you add an
- extra number to your phone line, with a different ring signal for
- each number, so you can detect which number has been called BEFORE
- you pick up the phone. InterMail can detect phone number 1 and 2, if
- invoked with the parameters /rm1 or /rm2. If three phone numbers
- share the same line, InterMail must use the 1st (one ring) number.
- This means that you can run InterMail 24 hours a day and receive
- incoming modem calls on your normal voice line, without disturbing
- you. You can also use InterMail on the same line as your fax, and
- both of them can receive their respective calls.
-
-
- Transfer window
- ---------------
- Now you can see how long the transfer has been going on, the
- estimated time left at the current Cps rate as well as the efficiency
- in percent. There is also a bar graph for a quick look.
-
-
- OS/2, Windows and DESQview
- --------------------------
- InterMail works very well in these environments. It runs in a
- DOS-window, releases timeslices and supports DTE speeds up to 115200
- bps. You can run InterMail in the background, transmitting files on
- your modem att high speed (for example 16800 bps), while you are
- working with something else in the foreground on the same computer.
-
-
- Password override on magic file name
- ------------------------------------
- Password checking can now be overridden for magic file names, i.e.
- the SysOp can allow file requests from password protected directories
- by way of magic file names to bypass the password check. If the first
- word after the magic name is /NOPWD, then InterMail will bypass the
- password check. Example: MAGIC /NOPWD C:\SECRET\MAGIC.*
-
-
- Session Password Error
- ----------------------
- On all password errors, InterMail will hang up on the remote system.
- However, it will send back "*** Password Error! ***" as system name,
- which will show up in the Lastcall pane and also in the outbound
- history as well as the log. (Provided that the remote system picks up
- this information, as InterMail will.)
-
-
