- AZTOUCH Version 1.0 documentation..... P.R. Tempero, 1993
-
- GREETINGS! Welcome to AZTOUCH. This program is the successor to a util
- by M. Trout called ARJTouch. It has been redesigned by P.R.
- Tempero (that's me, folks!) to handle both ARJ and ZIP type
- archives. This was done with Mr. Trout's permission.
-
-
- CONTENTS: Here is a list of files in this archive. They are needed in
- order for the util to run correctly. You may pass this util to anyone you
- wish and in any archive format you like. Just be sure all the following
- files are in the archive.
-
- FILE_ID.DIZ - This is a description file that we wish you'd leave in the
- archive so that BBS and others will know exactly what they
- are getting.
-
- AZTOUCH.DOC - This file which contains important instruction and other
- information on the AZTOUCH utility.
-
- AZDOC.COM - A quick and dirty one-page-at-a-time reader for this text
- file.
-
- AZREG.FRM - This file is our registration form.
-
- AZTOUCH.EXE - Main program file. This is the "guts" of the whole utility.
- AZTCH1.COM
- AZTCH2.EXE
- AZTCH3.COM
- AZTCH4.COM
- AZTCH5.COM
- AZTCH6.COM - These files are AZTOUCH support files. The program will NOT
- run without them.
-
- A-BANNER.TXT -This is a sample of a banner file which AZTOUCH can "brand"
- onto ZIP and ARJ archives. The file is a simple ASCII text
- which you can modify or replace with any pure ASCII editor.
- Once branded onto an archive, the file will be shown when
- the archive is opened. This is also known as a COMMENT.
- NOTE: While the contents of the file can be any text you
- wish, the filename MUST NOT be changed.
-
-
- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: This is a list of hardware you must have in order to
- run this program. If any are lacking, the program will not run.
-
- HARD DISK - This program MUST run from a hard drive. Floppies won't
- make it.
-
- CPU - Should run on any CPU. Of course, the faster the machine
- and the more RAM, the better. Must be IBM compatible.
-
-
- SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: This is a list of software you must have in order for
- the program to work properly.
-
- DOS 3.3 - Or higher. The higher version, the better. Has also been
- tested with 4DOS, and should run under DR DOS. Have not
- tried it with Windows or Desqview, so don't know about
- these, or other multi-taskers.
-
- ANSI.SYS - This driver must be loaded. See your DOS manual. You may
- also use NANSI or other ANSI.SYS clones.
-
- PKZIP
- ARJ - Since this utility modifies archives using archiver program
- commands, you'll need the actual archive programs (PKZIP &
- ARJ) themselves. The newer versions, the better.
- NOTE: Unless the actual archive programs make changes in
- their command structure, this program should work with all
- future versions of them. CAUTION! - PKZIP is NOT downwardly
- compatible with earlier versions of itself. So if you try
- to touch newer version ZIPs with an older version of the
- PKZIP software, strange things can happen. ALWAYS use the
- newest version of PKZIP available. Any good BBS should
- have a copy for download.
-
-
- INSTALLATION OF AZTOUCH: In order to properly install this software, you'll
- need to know two things about DOS. The first is how to create a subdirectory
- on your hard drive, the second is how to place that subdirectory in your DOS
- PATH. Refer to your DOS Manual for instructions on how to do these things.
-
- STEP 1: Create a subdirectory on your drive C: called AZTUCH. The AZTUCH
- subdirectory must spring directly from the root directory of C:.
- This directory MUST be on drive C:, and MUST be named AZTUCH.
-
- STEP 2: If you have not done so already, create a special directory in
- which you'll place all archivers. It may be on any drive and
- have any name, but must contain all archiver programs.
-
- STEP 3: Place both subdirectory AZTUCH and your archiver directory in your
- DOS path statement. Then reboot your machine to make the new path
- active.
-
- STEP 4: Place all files from this program in the AZTUCH subdirectory and be
- sure all archiver program files (ARJ, PKZIP etc.) are in your
- archiver directory.
-
- STEP 5: Modify or create the A-BANNER.TXT file with any pure ASCII editor.
- The filename MUST remain A-BANNER.TXT. This file is to be placed
- in the same directory with the ARJ and ZIP files you wish to work
- on. This work directory may be anywhere and does not need to be in
- your path. DO NOT place your ARJ/ZIP files in either the AZTUCH or
- archiver programs directories. Your work directory should be a
- seperate directory altogether.
-
-
- RUNNING AZTOUCH: To run the program, go to your work directory and type
- AZTOUCH. The program will check your work directory for a copy of the
- A-BANNER.TXT file and, if found, will run.
-
- The program is menu driven and is very easy to use. It is based on PKZIP and
- ARJ commands and should work with future versions of these packages, unless
- their command structures change in a radical way.
-
- When you choose to work on either ZIP or ARJ archives, AZTOUCH will check
- the work directory to see if that type of archive exists in the work area.
- If not, you'll be warned and returned to the main program menu.
-
- OPTION 1: - This will allow you to look at your banner file.
-
- OPTION 2: - This brands your banner onto all ARJ files in the work
- directory. AZTOUCH will show you the name of each ARJ
- file as it is branded (the banner you'll see is the one
- which you are replacing with your own). This function
- redates each ARJ to the current date.
-
- OPTION 3: - (REGISTERED VERSION ONLY) - Will redate your ARJ files to match
- the filedate of the newest file within the archive. Handy for
- seeing how old the software inside the archive is, rather than
- merely when the ARJ itself was made. While performing this
- function, AZTOUCH will also test the CRC integrity of the files.
- OPTION 4: - (REGISTERED VERSION ONLY). - Will allow you to do both above
- listed ARJ functions in one shot without need for user input.
-
- OPTION 5: - Strips comment banners from all ARJ files. Good for saving
- room by making the files smaller.
-
- OPTION 6: - (REGISTERED VERSION ONLY) - This brands your banner onto all
- ZIP files in the work directory and redates the archive to the
- current date.
-
- OPTION 7: - (REGISTERED VERSION ONLY) - Will redate your ZIP files to match
- the filedate of the newest file within the archive.
-
- OPTION 8: - Tests all ZIP files for CRC integrity. Will also show you the
- current comment banner on each ZIP file.
-
- OPTION 9: - (REGISTERED VERSION ONLY). - Will allow you to do all above
- listed ZIP functions in one shot without need for user input.
-
- OPTION I: - Lists AZTOUCH program info.
-
- ESC (escape) Exits program and closes all files.
-
-
- DISCLAIMER: Although this program will work as described (provided all of
- the instructions for installation and use are carried out), I will not be
- held responsible for any damages arising from the use, or inability to use
- this software. Reasonable care has been taken to insure program reliability
- and stabilty, however you are using AZTOUCH at your own risk.
-
- In addition, unless command structures change, this will be the first and
- ONLY release of AZTOUCH. If for some reason we do update it, all existing
- registrants will be able to open the shareware version with the program key
- already in their possession.
-
- REGISTRATION: To open up all program capabilities, you may wish to consider
- program registration. The registration price is 12 dollars, which breaks
- down to ten dollars for the software and two dollars for shipping and
- handling.
-
- The proximity key and further instructions will be sent to registrants on a
- single 360k floppy disk. Registered versions are serialized.
-
- If you wish to register just print and fill out the included form and mail
- it with a check or money order. The address to which it's to be mailed may
- be found by running AZTOUCH.
-
- When you hit the ESCape key to exit the program, the address to which you
- send your registration will be displayed. This way we can be assured that
- you have the software functioning properly on your system before you go to
- the trouble of registration.
-
- SAVE $2.00 ON REGISTRATION! .... HERE'S HOW! You can save the two dollar
- shipping costs by calling CYBERDROME BBS in Niwot, Colorado and downloading
- your registration key directly. The key is small, and will take only a few
- seconds to transfer.
-
- Simply fill out the CALL FOR KEY section of the order form. When we get
- your order, we will set up a BBS account for you and give you a voice call
- to tell you when you may pickup your key.
-
- CYBERDROME runs 24 hours a day and allows callers running at 2400 to 14,400
- baud. If your modem is slower than 2400 baud, you'll not be able to connect.
- CYBERDROME's number is in the AZTOUCH closing screen just like our address,
- for the very same reasons.
