- Q. How do I remove the DSOUND icon from the Control Panel?
-
- A. If you do not need to use DSOUND, you can remove it using the
- Control Panel's Drivers icon. This will not remove the DSOUND icon,
- however. To remove the DSOUND icon, you should delete the file
- DSCPL.CPL from your system directory.
-
- Q. Why do my sounds play too fast?
-
- A. You need to adjust the speed settings in the control panel. This
- is accomplished by double clicking on the DSOUND icon in the control
- panel. Push the "Test" button and you will hear "Hello". To adjust the
- speed of playback, click the up/down buttons in the Delay section until
- the "Hello" sounds right to you.
-
- Q. I can't move my mouse when a sound is playing? How can I stop this?
-
- A. WIRED FOR SOUND needs every available second of computer time to play
- your sound file. You can allow your mouse to move when you play a
- sound but the sound quality may be diminished. You can make a
- change in the control panel to allow mouse movements when sounds
- are playing by double clicking on the DSOUND icon. Once you have
- done this click on the "Allow Interrupts" box.
-
- Q. My system pauses for about 2 seconds when starting Windows how do
- stop this?
-
- A. This is WIRED FOR SOUND calibrating sound playback to the speed of your
- machine. You can stop this by changing settings in the control panel.
- Just double click on the DSOUND icon and you will see the Determine
- at startup check box. Just deselect this.
-
- Q. My system freezes when I try to start Windows. How do I stop this?
- A. There may be some unknown compatibility problem with WIRED FOR SOUND
- for Windows. You can remove WIRED FOR SOUND by editing your SYSTEM.INI
- file. Use a DOS editor and search for the line that looks like this:
-
- WAVE=DSOUND.DLL
-
- Remove "DSOUND.DLL" text from this line.
-
- Next call Aristosoft Technical Support to diagnose the problem.

-
- Q. Why is that my PC speaker does not play when I restart Windows?
-
- A 1.It could be that you already have a Sound Blaster board installed
- in your PC. In this case sounds will not play through the PC speaker
- but will play through your Sound Blaster. This is normal.
-
- 2.It could be that you had a Sound Blaster board installed previously
- and never removed the selection for it in the SYSTEM.INI file. Use
- Windows Notepad and open SYSTEM.INI and search for the line that says:
-
- Wave=sndblst.drv
-
- There may be a name different than sndblst.drv.
-
- Remove the text after Wave= and replace it with DSOUND.DLL
- Restart Windows after you make this change.
-
