  4. Q. How do I remove the DSOUND icon from the Control Panel?
  5.  
  6. A.  If you do not need to use DSOUND, you can remove it using the 
  7.     Control Panel's Drivers icon.  This will not remove the DSOUND icon,
  8.    however.  To remove the DSOUND icon, you should delete the file
  9.    DSCPL.CPL from your system directory.
  10.  
  11. Q. Why do my sounds play too fast?
  12.  
  13. A. You need to adjust the speed settings in the control panel. This
  14. is accomplished by double clicking on the DSOUND icon in the control 
  15. panel. Push the "Test" button and you will hear "Hello". To adjust the
  16. speed of playback, click the up/down buttons in the Delay section until
  17. the "Hello" sounds right to you.

  19. Q. I can't move my mouse when a sound is playing? How can I stop this?
  20.  
  21. A. WIRED FOR SOUND needs every available second of computer time to play
  22.    your sound file. You can allow your mouse to move when you play a
  23.    sound but the sound quality may be diminished. You can make a 
  24.    change in the control panel to allow mouse movements when sounds
  25.    are playing by double clicking on the DSOUND icon. Once you have
  26.    done this click on the "Allow Interrupts" box.

  28. Q. My system pauses for about 2 seconds when starting Windows how do
  29.    stop this?
  30.  
  31. A. This is WIRED FOR SOUND calibrating sound playback to the speed of your
  32.    machine. You can stop this by changing settings in the control panel.
  33.    Just double click on the DSOUND icon and you will see the Determine
  34.    at startup check box. Just deselect this.

  36. Q. My system freezes when I try to start Windows. How do I stop this?
  37. A. There may be some unknown compatibility problem with WIRED FOR SOUND
  38.    for Windows. You can remove WIRED FOR SOUND by editing your SYSTEM.INI
  39.    file. Use a DOS editor and search for the line that looks like this:

  41.         WAVE=DSOUND.DLL
  42.    
  43.    Remove "DSOUND.DLL" text from this line.
  44.

  54. Q. Why is that my PC speaker does not play when I restart Windows?
  55.  
  56. A 1.It could be that you already have a Sound Blaster board installed
  57.    in your PC. In this case sounds will not play through the PC speaker
  58.    but will play through your Sound Blaster.  This is normal.
  59.  
  60.   2.It could be that you had a Sound Blaster board installed previously
  61.    and never removed the selection for it in the SYSTEM.INI file. Use
  62.    Windows Notepad and open SYSTEM.INI and search for the line that says:

  64.                 Wave=sndblst.drv
  65.  
  66.    There may be a name different than sndblst.drv.
  67.  
  68.    Remove the text after Wave= and replace it with DSOUND.DLL
  69.    Restart Windows after you make this change.

  71. Q. How can I embed sounds in my documents?
  72.  
  73. A.SOUND RECORDER enables you to embed or link sounds into documents or
  74. spreadsheets or any other Object Client applications.
  75.  
  76. To do this follow these instructions:
  77.  
  78. 1. In the Accesories Group you will find Sound Recorder. 
  79.    Double click on it.
  80.  
  81. 2. Select the File menu and click on Open.
  82.  
  83. 3. Scroll through the file list box to the directory where
  84.    all WIRED FOR SOUND *.WAV files are located.
  85.  
  86. 4. Select the sound file you want to embed and click the
  87.    OK button.
  88.  
  89. 5. Select the Edit menu and click on Copy. The sound has just
  90.    been copied to the clipboard. 
  91.  
  92. 6. Next switch to the application you want to paste the sound into.
  93.    In this example let's use Windows Write. 
  94.  
  95. 7. Go to the applications Edit Menu and select either Link or 
  96.    Paste Special. After doing this you will see the Microphone
  97.    ICON inside your document.
  98.  
  99. You may click on the microphone to listen to the sound or adjust
  100. the volume. Read more about the Sound Recorder or the Media Player
  101. in Microsoft Windows Users Guide.

  103. Q. How can I setup my Disney Sound Source?
  104.  
  105. A. You can setup your Disney Sound Source through the control panel
  106.    by double clicking on the DSOUND icon. After it starts up simply
  107.    select the Disney Sound Source button.
  108.    
  109.    Next you need to select which parallel port the Disney Sound Source
  110.    is connected to. After you have done this reboot the system so that
  111.    the changes take effect.

  113. Q. How can I change the default volume?
  114.  
  115. A. You can change the default volume through the control panel by
  116.    double clicking on the DSOUND icon. After it starts up simply
  117.    click on the up or down arrow buttons.
