  4. This file contains additional information to supplement the manual.
  5. Please read all the sections before you proceed with the installation.

  18. 1. INSTALLATION
  19.  
  20.    The full installation option requires about 6 MBytes of hard disk
  21.    space and addition of 2MB for working space. You might need more if
  22.    your drive is in compressed form.
  23.

  25. 2. UNINSTALLATION
  26.  
  27.    Before uninstalling the software package, ensure that all the Sound
  28.    Blaster 16 applications are closed. Any Sound Blaster 16 application
  29.    that is running when the uninstallation is in progress will not be
  30.    deleted. Also, files that are added to the Sound Blaster 16 directory
  31.    after the initial software installation will not be deleted by the
  32.    uninstallation process. You will have to manually delete these files
  33.    after the uninstallation process has completed.

  36. 3. DOS ENVIRONMENT SETTINGS
  37.  
  38.    Some of the existing DOS programs require the presence of MIDI and
  39.    SOUND environments in order for it to work. The Setup program will
  40.    add the SET MIDI and SET SOUND environment lines at the beginning of
  41.    the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  44. 4. DOS AUDIO DRIVER SUPPORT UNDER WINDOWS 95 DOS BOX
  45.  
  46.    Some of the DOS applications are developed with Creative's Sound
  47.    Blaster Developer Kit. These applications require the low level
  48.    DOS audio device drivers to be loaded. To load the DOS audio
  49.    drivers, you need to add the following lines to the CONFIG.SYS file:
  50.  
  51.    DEVICE=C:\<dir>\DRV\CTSB16.SYS /UNIT=0 /BLASTER=A:220 I:5 D:1 H:5 /WIN95
  52.    DEVICE=C:\<dir>\DRV\CTMMSYS.SYS
  53.  
  54.    Remarks:
  55.  
  56.      a. <dir> is the sound directory where the audio software is located.
  57.  
  58.      b. The /BLASTER parameter specifies the Sound Blaster base I/O port
  59.         address (A), interrupt request line (I), low 8-bit DMA channel
  60.         (D) and high 16-bit DMA channel (H).
  61.  
  62.      c. The settings in the /BLASTER parameter must tally with the actual
  63.         settings allocated by Windows 95. To find out the actual settings,
  64.         go into Windows 95 DOS box and type SET and press <Enter> at the
  65.         DOS prompt. You will see one of the lines displayed is:

  67.             BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
  68.  
  69.         The values after the A, I, D and H are the actual settings to be
  70.         used for the /BLASTER parameter.
  71.  
  72.         To help you in setting up the DOS audio drivers, we have prepared
  73.         a text file CONFIG.TXT in the sound directory. This text file
  74.         contains the above lines to specify the DOS audio drivers. The
  75.         sound directory in the text file had been updated by the
  76.         installation program. You just need to update the /BLASTER
  77.         parameter and copy the lines into the CONFIG.SYS file.

  80. 5. ONLINE DOCUMENTATION
  81.  
  82.    To help you access information on the applications in this package easily, 
  83.    we have compiled the online documentation so that it can be accessed from
  84.    your audio card's group window. Just click on the icon(s) with names that
  85.    start with the words "How to Use".

  88. 6. BLASTER settings under MSDOS Mode
  89.  
  90.    Whenever you change your Audio hardware configuration manually, the
  91.    BLASTER environment under MSDOS Mode will only be valid after you reboot
  92.    the system once.
  93.  
  94.    However, if you proceed to MSDOS Mode without rebooting, you need to run
  95.    CTPNP.EXE which is in your Windows directory.  This program makes the
  96.    BLASTER environment tally with the actual hardware settings.
